“ARE YOU CRYING?” my husband whispered incredulously. After all, it was his cousin getting married, and his aunt — a Methodist minister — performing the ceremony. If anyone was going to get misty-eyed, I’m sure he was thinking it should have been him. But I always cry at weddings. Even editing this magazine, I regularly teared up.
There’s something so powerful about the way two people look at each other when they are in love and are so steadfast in their commitment. And the joy is infectious, even when you’re looking at photos of people you don’t personally know. But what gets me about weddings is the love radiating within them. There’s the couple, of course. But also folks like Grandma, all dressed up with her corsage, or Grandpa, giving a silly toast. The bestie from fifth grade, happily dancing with the college buddies. The tiniest of guests, twirling in their dresses or so proud to be sporting a bowtie. There’s even the love shining down from people who are with us now only in spirit.
Because as spectacular as wedding venues are, as fragrant as a bouquet can be, a wedding is ultimately about people (even if it’s the two of you eloping!). So, congratulations to all our featured couples and their loved ones.
Inside this issue of Southern Coastal Weddings, there is plenty of joy and beauty to behold. Enjoy dreamy beach weddings (“Toes in the Sand,” page 52), sweet ceremonies in Forsyth Park (“Meet Me by the Fountain,” page 57 and “Pretty In Pink,” page 97), cathedral showstoppers (“Southern Stunner,” page 47), and many more real-life examples of people saying “I do” in our beautiful corner of the world.
You’ll also find what’s trending in weddings (“Something New,” page 19) and learn if a Hydrafacial is right for you, as part of your special-day prep (page 27). Toward the back of the magazine, you can dive deep into a plethora of resources, including tips on tying the knot in the Southern coastal area, as well as helpful lists of preferred vendors, sanctuaries, and reception venues.
After all, now that you’ve chosen your soulmate, it’s time to make some wedding decisions. Whatever you choose, may the love continue to surround you!

•Begin with a comprehensive consultation to assess facial structure, skin quality, and overall goals. Start a medicalgrade skincare regimen — results build with consistent daily use.
•If tone or redness is a concern, consider your first Moxi or BroadBand Light (BBL) laser session; multiple treatments are often needed for full effect.
•Collagen-stimulating injectables like Sculptra or Radiesse should also be started early, as they work gradually over time to enhance skin density and firmness.
AT PARK AESTHETICS , we specialize in intentional, natural-looking results that photograph beautifully and feel even better in person. Whether you’re new to aesthetics or simply refining what you already love, preparing for your big day starts with a plan. Here’s a month-by-month guide to help you glow confidently down the aisle — with skin that’s radiant, features that feel balanced, and downtime built in every step of the way.
•Schedule any needed maintenance sessions for BBL or Moxi, especially if your skin goals include long-standing pigment, redness, or scarring. These treatments should be completed several months in advance to allow time for full cellular turnover.
•Repeat biostimulator injections if part of your plan. Most patients benefit from two to three sessions, spaced six to eight weeks apart, to see full collagen-building results by the wedding day.
•Begin monthly facials focused on hydration, barrier support, and skin conditioning. These treatments maintain the integrity of the skin and help reduce sensitivity or irritation from active ingredients.
7months
9 months
•If texture, fine lines, or superficial scarring are a concern, begin a microneedling series spaced four to six weeks apart. This treatment stimulates collagen, refines skin texture, and improves product absorption over time.
•For those seeking improved facial structure or balance, foundational dermal filler may be appropriate. Starting early allows for natural integration and the option for refinement before your final result is captured in photos.
months5
•Schedule your first Botox or Dysport treatment to address lines of expression and prevent creasing in high-movement areas like the forehead or between the brows. This allows enough time for adjustments and proper dose mapping ahead of the final treatment.
•Finalize dermal filler refinements, whether for volume, symmetry, or subtle contouring. Areas like the lips, under-eyes,or midface may require a second session or slight touch-up to perfect proportions and softness under photography lighting.
•A light chemical peel may be considered at this stage for dullness, minor congestion, or superficial pigment. This helps to refine skin clarity and smoothness, but requires downtime, so it should not be done closer to the event.
7
3months
•Complete any remaining skin rejuvenation sessions, such as microneedling or laser, to allow full healing and remodeling.
•Maintain monthly facials focused on hydration and barrier repair, and avoid aggressive exfoliation. This period is about preserving the results you’ve built while minimizing risk of inflammation or irritation.
•Simplify your skincare regimen if your skin has become more sensitive, focusing on hydration, repair, and sun protection.
•No collagen-inducing treatments should be performed within six weeks of your wedding.
1 month days
•Receive a gentle, hydrating facial designed for barrier support and light lymphatic stimulation.
•Prioritize rest, water intake, and a simplified routine.
• Avoid extractions or new products during this time.
•Do not introduce any new skincare products or treatments, and avoid excessive exfoliation.
•Undergo your final neuromodulator treatment to ensure peak effect on the day of your wedding. Results typically take 10 to 14 days to fully develop, making this the optimal time for your last appointment.
•No additional filler or stimulators should be administered at this stage, as swelling, bruising, or delayed response could interfere with your timeline.
•Transition to calming, nonactive skincare to reduce the chance of reactivity. Emphasis should be on barrier support and consistent hydration.

What’s going on with the Forsyth Park fountain? The iconic fountain, with its swans and shell-trumpeting mermen, was temporarily removed in June 2025 for its first major restoration in nearly 40 years. Alabama-based Robinson Iron Works will recast and restore the fountain’s original cast-iron components; other parts of the fountain, such as its plumbing and electrical systems, also will be refreshed. The fountain was originally ordered from a catalog and was installed in July 1858. Once restored, the fountain should be back spouting by the end of the year, if not sooner. Sebrell Smith, owner/creative director of Sebrell Smith Designer Events, shared some of her work from a recent wedding that beautifully married classic Lowcountry charm with Mediterranean elegance. For
the reception, she used large, sculptural arrangements, vibrant centerpieces, and actual orange trees, transporting guests to the Tuscan countryside. The lush floral arrangements featured bright roses, peonies, and seasonal blooms. She also layered the grand centerpieces with thoughtful touches, such as individual bud vases and curated accents like beautiful coffee table books. You might also want to pop into her Sandfly Flower Shop, a good spot to find charming and useful gifts for a wedding party, like elegant pearl drop earrings.
Trend alert! Consider using a large, magnificent flower, as this bride did (photo at right). “The striking White King protea is a beautiful choice for a standalone centerpiece or as the focal flower for a bridal bouquet,” says Connie Ross, manager of John Davis Florist , the local floral shop behind this design,
which also featured other flowers and greenery in an organic cascading bouquet. The bridesmaids carried a single protea accented with greenery. SCW
Want to try a Hydrafacial before your big day? Here’s what you need to know.
Written by KRISTEN SOLES MCCRACKIN
ACCORDING TO RESEARCH from wellness and beauty company Goop, Hydrafacials top the list of most searched beauty terms in Georgia. Here, we explain what they are and answer your most frequently asked questions to help you decide if this facial treatment is right for you as you prepare for your big day.
Hydrafacial is a non-invasive treatment that improves skin health, addresses individual concerns, and creates a glow in about 30 minutes, says Janie Futch, BSN RN. Futch is co-founder and chief operating officer of Altera Aesthetix, which has locations in Savannah, Statesboro, and Richmond Hill. Futch notes, “Unlike traditional facials, it’s performed via device rather than by hand, for deeper penetration and longer lasting results.”
Michelle Turley, an esthetician with Chatham Plastic Surgery, describes the process. “It works by combining waterbased solutions that cleanse, correct, and hydrate the skin with a procedure that resurfaces the skin, flushes out the pores, and adds moisture. In addition, we combine LED light therapy to kill bacteria, reduce inflammation, and increase cellular activity with microcurrent and lymphatic drainage to leave the skin not only clean and hydrated, but calmer, tighter, and more lifted.”
Hydrafacial is a brand name; there are also other similar systems on the market, each with their own proprietary solutions and boosters.
For example, at Savvy Skin Medical Aesthetics, owner Karen Bouchard, PA-C notes they offer AquaFirmeXS treatments. “It uses proprietary, plant-based stem cell serums, rich with growth factors. We gently infuse these advanced formulations into the skin using a precision micro-cupping tip, then further activate and massage in with a warm, soothing ultrasound handpiece for enhanced absorption and optimal results,” she says.
The serums are targeted to reduce the skin’s inflammation and redness, as well as support collagen, boost radiance, firm the skin, and improve fine lines, says Bouchard. “Patients walk out the door with beautiful, glowing skin, typically event-ready.”
In the Savannah area, the cost of this procedure averages between $150 and $400, though pricing depends on what type of add-ons you may choose, such as dermaplaning, lymphatic drainage, and targeted booster serums, all of which may have added benefits.
YOU WILL ALREADY BE A STUNNING BRIDE.

Hydrafacials are safe and well-tolerated, even for sensitive skin. However, as with any treatment, there are a few potential side effects to be aware of, like temporary redness and tightness, and mild flaking or breakouts from exfoliation. Practitioners also do not recommend this treatment for those with active rashes or severe active acne breakouts.
Bouchard has some helpful tips for those new to this technique. “It’s important to discuss any allergies you have prior to treatment as this could impact what solutions should be used during your treatment to prevent any problems.” She goes on to note, “You should avoid this treatment if you’ve had a chemical peel, laser, or microneedling within a week prior to the treatment.” She also recommends discontinuing any retinoids, such as Retin-A, five days prior to treatment as this can make your skin more sensitive and reactive.
Results of a hydrafacial typically last five to seven days, with many patients noticing their skin retaining a glow and staying smoother and more hydrated for up to two weeks, especially with proper at-home skincare. For long-term improvement in tone, texture, and clarity, experts recommend a series of treatments (usually once a month). SCW
A local professional’s must-haves for a skincare and makeup routine that can stand up to Savannah’s weather.
After more than 25 years as a professional makeup artist — working with hundreds of brides as well as actors, CEOs, and more — Dawn Angeletti opened Lalka Beauty Co., a local cosmetic and accessory boutique, in 2023. Since then, Angeletti has expanded her shop’s product inventory to include favorites for every customer. For example, she offers South Korean and French skincare lines, locally made soaps, and organic makeup. We asked her to share some of her favorite picks for Savannah and the Southern coastal climate.
Blinc’s Amplified Tubing Mascara
Angeletti promises this mascara will last through sweat and those happy wedding tears. Tubing mascaras use polymers to build a tube around each lash, rather than just coating them in pigment. You still get all the visual effects of a regular mascara, but you won’t need to worry about having raccoon eyes. Don’t worry about damaged lashes, either; the mascara can be easily removed with warm water.
Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Water Powder Serum
This is a water-to-powder formula, giving you the polish of a matte skin look without the dryness of a traditional powder. It leaves skin smooth and moisturized and also ensures makeup will stay put.
Beauty of Joseon’s Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics
50 SPF Sunscreen
In sunny Savannah, Angeletti says, “Sun protection is a necessity.” This nonsticky, lightweight, vegan sunscreen uses chemical filters to offer SPF 50+. It also features rice and grain fermented extracts to pamper your skin.
Embryolisse’s Eau de Beaute Rosamelis
If there is one product we need when braving Savannah weather, it’s a good setting spray. And this one is iconic, according to Angeletti. Whether you need to prep your face, set your face, or fix your face, this four-flower toner always has a place in your bag.

WE’VE GOT NOTHING AGAINST a stately, decorated ballroom or a sweet little chapel. But some wedding ideas are best experienced al fresco. Here are three ways to make the most of an outdoor setting for an unforgettable party.
Kearsten and Cody got married in a small ceremony at Cotton Hall in Yemassee, South Carolina. After the wedding, the couple toasted to their new life together with a luxury picnic. Cotton Hall catered the charcuterie and other picnic foods, and the couple also savored their cake, crafted by Ally’s Bakery. An upscale picnic like this one is an intimate way to celebrate with just the two of you or you can do a relaxed picnic basket theme for multiple guests. Picnics also offer plenty of photo opportunities for documenting precious moments.

For Kylie and Jason’s wedding at The Ford Field & River Club (see page 80), Tara Skinner Events created a dramatic departure moment for the bride and groom. The couple left in a golf cart, surrounded by cold sparks. Safer than traditional fireworks, cold sparks don’t have as much heat or risk of fire, but the special effect still creates a dazzling display. For this wedding, the cold sparks were provided by JKL Events, based in Bluffton, South Carolina.
For their wedding reception, Ellie Becker and Brandon Denker chose Page Island, a remote, private island in the South Carolina marshlands owned by Outside Brands. (The reception was designed and executed by Outside DMC, a division of Outside Brands.) The island is only accessible by boat, and is a rugged, natural outpost, notes Carol KavanaughArrington, director of sales for Outside DMC. “You have to be all in for the venue,” she notes. Everything has to be delivered by boat, from the furniture rentals to the band, and at the end of the event, the island is returned to its natural state. But the tranquility and unique experience is worth it.
Ellie and Brandon had 26 guests at their reception, and everyone was shuttled from Palmetto Bluff onboard Outside’s 47-foot luxury catamaran, Ohana. During the 50-minute ride, guests enjoyed appetizers, such as sweet potato blini with Beluga caviar. As they disembarked, they were served French 75 cocktails. Later, guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, such as oysters, followed by a sit-down dinner with a menu featuring salad with crab, filet mignon, and wedding cake. After the four-and-a-half-hour event, guests were whisked back to Palmetto Bluff on the boat, while nibbling on grilled pizzas as a late-night snack. SCW

During the dancing portion of the event, two dueling pianos played with a candlelit backdrop flowing over stone fireplaces from 1917. Guests sang and danced to the live music while others relaxed and reminisced under the Southern night sky.
At the end of the night, the grand finale fireworks show was presented in front of Crane Cottage reflecting in the lawn pool.

SOUTHERN COASTAL WEDDINGS covers some of the most beautiful geography in the world. Although each area of the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire bears its own distinctive mark, they all share certain signatures: stately oaks draped with romantic Spanish moss, preserved historic structures, and a cultural reverence for the art of hospitality.
Beaufort, South Carolina, in upper Beaufort County, is awash with romance and history — a quintessential small Southern town. At the southern end of Beaufort County, cross the bridge to Hilton Head Island. This island is an ode to meticulously planned high-end residences and manicured golf courses, all coming together with understated elegance. Bluffton is Hilton Head’s mainland sister — an eclectic community with an artist’s soul.
Travel over the Savannah River, and you’re in Chatham County, Georgia. Savannah’s massive historic district and tree-filled squares are top-of-mind when it comes to planning a wedding here, but Savannah-area brides are spoiled for choice — beach weddings on Tybee Island, historic venues well away
from the bustle of the city, and even rustic farm settings make the Hostess City a versatile site for any celebration.
About an hour to the south of Savannah, you’ll find Glynn County, Georgia, home of the Golden Isles — Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island, Sea Island, and Little St. Simons Island, plus the mainland town of Brunswick, which offers a picturesque historic district. It’s easy to see why these islands inspired poet Sidney Lanier’s famed “Marshes of Glynn” — they offer an array of wedding venues, from elegant and exclusive villas to earthy, exquisite driftwood beaches.
TEMPERATURES: Humidity is year-round, with average temperatures ranging from lows in the winter of low 40s to summer highs in the 90s.
RAINFALL: You can expect the heaviest in August (7.2 inches), lightest in November (2.4 inches). Although hurricane season runs June-November, August-October have historically been active months to watch.
TIDES: Beach weddings are wonderful, but be aware that there can be a 6- to 10-foot difference between high and low tides, and even greater during so-called supermoons, which usually occur in August and September. You can monitor the tides attidesandcurrents.noaa.gov by clicking on Georgia or South Carolina.
SAVANNAH, TYBEE ISLAND, AND ELSEWHERE IN CHATHAM COUNTY:
Marriage license applications for Chatham County can be found at courts.chathamcountyga.gov/probate/ marriagelicenses. It is a three-step process: apply, schedule an appointment, and then show up at the courthouse at 133 Montgomery St., Room 509, in downtown Savannah with all pertinent information. The fee is $76 for adults without premarital education/counseling and $36 for adults with a premarital education/counseling certificate.
GOLDEN ISLES: Glynn County Probate Court is located at 701 G St. in downtown Brunswick. Full information is located at glynncounty.org/190/Marriage-License. An appointment must be made by calling 912.554.7234 or by emailing probatecourt@ glynncounty-ga.gov. The fee is $76 for adults without premarital education/ counseling and $36 for adults with a premarital education/counseling certificate (Georgia residents only).
HILTON HEAD ISLAND AND BLUFFTON: Visit beaufortcountysc.gov/probate-court/ marriage-licenses.html for information on Beaufort County marriage license applications. They are accepted from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. by appointment only. The main location is at 102 Ribaut Road, Beaufort, South Carolina, with two satellite offices: 539 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head Island, and 4819 Bluffton Parkway, Bluffton. The fees for a license range from $50 to $95, depending on residency status. All fees must be paid in cash.
TYBEE ISLAND: Head to cityoftybee.org/ 161/special-events-planning for detailed information to plan your beach wedding.
There is now an online permit process available. The required fee is $25. For questions, contact Robyn Rosner by emailing rrosner@cityoftybee.org.
GOLDEN ISLES: St. Simons Island beaches do not require reservations or permits for weddings. For information about getting married on Jekyll Island beaches, including the picturesque Driftwood Beach, visit jekyllisland.com/venues/weddings. Permits are not required, but there are certain things you need to know. For example, you can only throw natural materials, like petals (otherwise, it’s considered littering), and there is a beach lighting ordinance from May 1-Oct. 31 for sea turtle nesting beaches.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND: A permit is required, but there is no fee. Check details at hiltonheadislandsc.gov/beach/wedding. cfm or call 843.342.4583. Between April and December 2025, beach renourishment will be taking place.
SAVANNAH: If you have always dreamed of a wedding in one of Savannah’s parks or squares, go to savannahga.gov/3607/ weddings or call 912.351.3837. A permit is required. A wedding permit provides you the assurance that the space you want for your special day will be guaranteed for you and that the general public will not interfere with your ceremony. The application fee is $25. Permit fees (for 4 hours minimum) range from $350 to $725 with additional rental time of $60 per hour. You must hire an off-duty Savannah police officer for security. Having chairs, aisle runners, tents, etc., requires special permission and can be obtained during the permitting process. If you are planning a small wedding with fewer than 50 people, you don’t need a permit. Activities in the squares are on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the city’s special event calendar to see if there is already a permitted event on that day in the area you are interested in.
GOLDEN ISLES: For historic venues available on Jekyll Island, go to jekyllisland. com/venues/historic-rentals. You can send in the request form via the link provided at the top. For a list of pavilion and outdoor spaces, go to jekyllisland.com/venues/pavillionsoutdoor-spaces. You can email for more information at jekyllparks@jekyllisland.com or phone 912.635.4000.
SAVANNAH: For wine or beer, go to savannahga.gov/2805/temporary-alcoholevent-permits for an application for a temporary permit. The fee is $125 per day, and the permit must be applied for 14 business days before the event.
TYBEE ISLAND: Although alcohol is allowed on the beach, it can’t be in a glass container. Kegs are also prohibited. Also, be aware that smoking/vaping is not allowed on the beach, with fines up to $300 for violations.
GOLDEN ISLES: Alcohol is allowed on the beach but not in glass containers. It is recommended you check the area for any specific rules, as there are occasional bans/ restrictions.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND: Alcohol is prohibited on all beaches.
Our region’s beaches are special because they contain sea turtle nesting sites, and are also an important habitat to many species of migratory birds.
TYBEE ISLAND: No pets are allowed on the beach except for certified service or guide dogs. It’s best to keep your furry friend at home or the beach rental lest you face a $300 fine and court costs. See more at cityoftybee.org/173/Beach-Rules.
GOLDEN ISLES: You can bring your fourlegged companions to most beaches on Jekyll Island, but they must be leashed. Check the rules at jekyllisland.com/visiting/ safety-tips. St. Simons allows dogs on some beaches but are prohibited the Saturday before Memorial Day through Labor Day. Other restrictions can be found here: glynncounty.org/1522/beach-qr-page-2.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND: From October to March, dogs are allowed as long as they are on a leash or under voice control. From April through Memorial Day and then on through Labor Day and September, there are different schedules for when pets can be on leashes versus under voice control. There is a defined timeframe, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day, when dogs are prohibited. For the full schedule and other rules, see hiltonheadislandsc.gov/beach/animals.cfm.
