Lee Robbins, Programs Director at the Family Law Resource Center and its parent organization, the Mediation Center, worked on developing COPE by researching and designing the interactive program through collaborations with educators and therapists. He introduced it to the Mediation Center earlier this summer. Now Robbins and his colleague, Crystal Commodore, the Mediation Center’s Youth Program Director, are about to bring this beneficial service to another Savannah nonprofit committed to helping the community’s young people. Starting Aug. 15, the two will implement COPE at Park Place Outreach, which provides services to at-risk youth and their families, aims to increase their functional levels, and reunifies families whenever possible. Once per month, Robbins will provide a onehour lesson on a Tuesday, followed by another one-

Robbins will focus on understanding emotion, managing response and owning actions, while Commodore will educate participants on communicating when in conflict with others. Mediation Center Executive Director Jill Cheeks is delighted COPE has been well-received and looks forward to increasing its availability by partnering with more Coastal Empire organizations and educational institutions. “The community already knows we offer a variety of conflict-resolution services, but we also are pleased to be able to pro-

These resources enable us to educate youth at an earlier age and equip them with skills to handle difficult situations and respond in a more positive manner to stress and conflict,” Cheeks said. Park Place Outreach, a youth emergency shelter, provides support for troubled children and teens from Savannah and the surrounding area. It is open 24 hours a day to youth in crisis, adolescents who are homeless, young people who have been abused, runaway youth, or those who may be thinking of running away.

SAVANNAH HERALD NEWSPAPER

Letter To The Editor Report Card of First District Representatives - Third Edition

The City of Savannah’s staff and First District Alderman Van R. Johnson revealed a proposal for the Arena Project and the Canal District to community presidents at City Hall on June 28, 2017. I, Curtis V. Cooper, Jr. and Bernetta Lanier, (both invited) were put out of that meeting (See July 5, 2017, Savannah Herald letter to the Editor). Alderman Van Johnson and Staff are showing this proposal at the First District community meetings. I attended the Carver Village meeting along with Mrs. Lanier and we were not put out of the meeting. We went to receive information that would impact our District. The Cloverdale Community meeting was held on July 20, 2017 and the SAME information was shared but MANY questions still remain! The proposal that is “not the plan had residents scratching their heads. The staff proposal will take two years for the City Lot removal and the construction of the new City Lot which will be located behind the Carver Village Community. City Hall is promoting (pushing) the Arena Project and Canal District as ‘ONE’ project. This generates misunderstandings in the public eye. The Arena Project is a FUNDED project while the Canal District is NOT FUNDED. In 2005 the public voted for the Arena Project and later voted a SECOND TIME for the same project. I can’t recall any other project needing a second vote in the history of SPLOST. This is alarming because this funding tool will have a difficult time passing on the next and future ballots. Questions asked at the Carver Village and Cloverdale meetings were about drainage, road improvements, and recreation. City Staff stated that the Springfield Canal would be widened and deepen for canoes and boats. More water may not be the solution. WE HAVE NOT SEEN ANY IMPACT STUDY. Both communities have drainage issues. Plans for road improvements for this area are three lanes for Louisville Road and Stiles Avenue to Gwinnett Street. The first road project is to raise Gwinnett Street seven (7) feet and widen it to four (4) lanes and enlarge the bridge that runs over the Springfield Canal. West Gwinnett Street will bring traffic from downtown Savannah and I-16 while the secondary road improvement should be the full reconstruction of Stiles Avenue from Louisville Road to Ogeechee Road/U.S. 17. The hill at Stiles and Ogeechee Road has stood since 1938 and we need a state of the art intersection at this location. This concept will bring citizens down U.S. 17 from Richmond Hill while Victory Drive/U.S. 80 will bring citizens from Tybee Island to the new and improved Stiles Avenue. Alderman Johnson spoke of ball fields north of the Arena Project at Louisville Road. The community of Brickyard and churches reside on this road. These ball fields that the Alderman speaks of did not have any community input or discussion and would serve downtown Savannah and tourists. They WILL NOT bring needed recreational improvements to the Carver Village and Cloverdale communities. HOWEVER, the COMPLETION of Bowles C. Ford Park WOULD enhance our quality of life. We believe that the completion of the ‘1980 started and never completed’ Bowles C. Ford Park would FILL the Westside recreational void. Imagine . . . a completed Bowles C. Ford Park with the tree line raised fifteen (15) feet exposing the site of our beautiful lake as citizens and visitors journey to the NEW Arena on the NEW Stiles Avenue. DEMERGER?????????? Curtis V. Cooper, Jr.

Do you want your children to learn to forgive others? Then it is important to model forgiveness. Colossians 3:12-14 from the Message Bible says, “So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it”. Everyone knows forgiving is not easy and may be difficult depending on the person and events involved, but it is the only way to move forward. At the time when Jesus walked the earth, some rabbis taught that there was a limit to the times you should forgive. They said you should for-

give three times, but not after that. When Peter asked Jesus if he should forgive seven times, he was being generous, more than double what was expected at the time. Jesus responded, not just seven times, but seventy times seven. In other words, there is to be no limit to our forgiveness. A biblically plausible interpretation of Matthew 6:14-15 is that anyone who refuses to forgive others is demonstrating that he has not truly received Christ’s forgiveness. Any sin committed against us, no matter how terrible, is trivial in comparison to our sins against God. If God has forgiven us of so much, how could we refuse to forgive others of so “little”? Matthew 6:14-15 proclaims that anyone who harbors unforgiveness against others has not truly experienced God’s forgiveness. It is wrong for someone who has truly experienced God’s for-

giveness to refuse to grant forgiveness to others. There is a song that I learned in my youth entitled, To be like Jesus. The words are “to be like Jesus, to be like Jesus, all I want is to be like Him. All through life’s journey from earth to glory, all I want is to be like Him”. Forgiveness is not just a major topic in Christianity, it is a hot topic. Through the power of Jesus Christ, you have the ability to do all things through Him. Forgiveness is not easy, but when you practice that which is hard to do, then it becomes easy to do. Will you start today by putting on your wardrobe that God has picked out for you? Model Forgiveness! And that’s the simple gospel. Christ Church International “Changing Your Tomorrow Today”

The Gospel Truth With Gwendolyn Greene Did You Know? Did you know that the love of money is the root of all evil? Did you know that businesses are open and people work on the Sabbath Day because they love money? Did you know that the fourth commandment of God says, “Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy. Six days shall thou labor and do all thy work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shall not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates? For, in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath Day and hallowed it.” Did you know that from sundown each Friday evening until sundown each Saturday evening is the Sabbath Day? Yes, the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord and he wants every one on earth to cease from his/ her own work and pleasure and gather to honor him on his day! [I Tim. 6: 10, Is. 56:11, 1-7, 58: 13-14, Gen. 2: 1-3, Ex. 20: 1-8-11, 31: 12-18, Lev. 23: 32, Ezek. 22: 25-26, Luke 4: 16, St. John 14: 15, 21, 23-24, Acts 13: 42-44, 16: 13, I John 5:

2-3, Rev. 22: 14-15] Did you know that the mark of the beast is directly related to people who are disobedient to God and do not keep the Sabbath Day? Did you know that the mark of the beast is 666 and that it is the number of a man? Did you know that: #1. The first 6 symbolizes that God made man on the 6th day and then he rested on the seventh day? #2.The second 6 symbolizes that God commanded man to work 6 days and to rest from his own work on the seventh day and to gather to worship him. #3. The third 6 symbolizes six thousand years from the fall of Adam in the garden until the seventh thousand year. Each thousand years represents one day. Jesus shall return and all the saints of God who are alive and remain on earth, along with the dead in Christ who shall arise, will celebrate a great Sabbath Day on earth with Jesus. [Rev. 13: 15-18, 20: 4-7, II Peter 3: 9] Did you know that God is his Word and that God does not change, but that the church in Rome changed the Sabbath Day to Sunday under Constantine’s rulership? Did you know that multitudes of Jews who kept the Sabbath were put to death in the 1400’s in Spain

during the Spanish Inquisition because they would not convert to Catholicism? Did you know that Martin Luther during the 1500’s had to flee for his life because he initiated the Protestant Reformation? Did you know that Jesus came into this world as a Jew and that it was Jewish men who were inspired by God to write the Bible? Did you know that Jared Kushner President Trump’s son-law, who is married to President Trump’s daughter Ivanka, is filthy rich and that he owns buildings in other countries and he bought a building on 5th Avenue in New York for $1.8 billion dollars and that the number of the address on the building is 666. Did you know that Jared’s office is in that building and that the RFID CHIP is being developed there? Though Jared and Ivanka were not born Jews, they claim to be practicing Jews. However, they obtained permission from their Rabbi to be exempt from keeping the Sabbath. Did you know that the Bible says that some people will say that they are Jews even though they were born See The Gospel Truth Page 2B
