Letter To The Editor Report Card of First District Representatives Van R. Johnson Alderman First District Van Johnson is in his fourth term as representative of the first district. He supported the removal of $48 million dollars of arena money out of SPLOST 5 which left $21 million to cover this project. Former Alderman Clifton Jones stood alone in an 8 to 1 vote not to remove these funds. Parks and recreation in the first district on a scale of 1 to 10 is a 1, while the children’s park at the Visitors Center received $6 million dollars from SPLOST 5. How many first district residents use it? Alderman Johnson is a member of the golden years of black politics in Savannah. Twelve years wasted of political capital. He was Mayor Pro Tem from 2012 to 2016 with a 6 to 3 majority black council. To date, Aldermen Van Johnson has no power period. He has had 12 years to produce for the first district and today has produced very little. Carol Bell

second term on the City Council. She has not been a champion of the people. She sat on the sideline during her first term. Alderwoman Bell is a major player with this council’s 5 vote majority. Brian Foster Alderman At Large Post 2 Brian Foster has received African American support from many of our leaders and what has he done? He has not attended any community meetings in Carver Village or Cloverdale since taking office. How can Mr. Foster address our concerns when he is never present? Eddie Deloach Mayor Eddie Deloach is in his first term as Mayor. The Mayor enjoyed broad support in his election bid. The first district expected so much more from a former county commissioner. Chatham County government has a more effective process of getting things done. This has not transitioned over to the city of Savannah. All Alderman At Large Post 1 we have seen is the over Mayor Pro Tem development of downtown Carol Bell is in her Savannah. Every plan is

done for the tourist and downtown. They enjoy better policing, better lighting, business development, and camera everywhere, etc. Mr. Mayor! The people have voted twice. SPLOST 5 and 6 have money allocated for a new arena. Eleven months ago citizens went to city hall to voice their concerns about the arena. The council voted to start the project. Nothing yet Mr. Mayor. The citizens are watching the four of you. We have been disappointed, discouraged, and defeated for decades in our efforts. Savannah has watched this council float two bonds to the tune of $40 million plus and these projects will have no direct impact on the residents of the first district. Many of you supported the swiping of the citizens credit card through the floating of these bonds. There is a hole being dug for the first district and Van R. Johnson has the shovel. Celebration of Life When someone you love becomes a Memory

In Memory Of

Richard Outing who departed on May 27, 2015

Sweet Memories

God took him home, It was his will, but in our hearts We love him still. His memory is as dear today as in the hour he passed away. He had a smile for everyone A heart as pure as gold To those who knew and loved him. His memory will never grow old. Lovingly remembered by his wife, Jeanette Outing; daughters, Tracie, Tammie and Dana; grandchildren, great-grandson and other family members, church family and friends.

We want to thank all who shared our grief through cards, calls, visits, hugs, tears, and prayers. While we were blessed to receive excellent care and service from the staff at Atlanta Medical, Emory University Hospital, Candler Hospital, Pruitt Healthcare, Bynes-Royall Funeral Home, AllCare Medical, and ILA Local 1414; we would like to give special thanks for the sincere kindness showed to my mother and our family by the doctors, nurses, social workers, administrative staff, and chaplain. Our family will always cherish your kindness. No words could ever express our appreciation for your service and support.

Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is memory, they’ll live on in the heart. Lovingly missed and remembered by: sister, Ernestine J. (Clifton) Jones; brother, Herbert Jenkins; Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Card of Thanks
