Vol. 2 No. 24

By LeShango Wilder

Johnson Lady Atom Smashers recorded a 62-50 victory over Greater Atlanta Christian to earn Class AAA Girls State Championship last Thursday afternoon in the Macon Centreplex, Macon, Georgia. The Lady Atom Smashers were locked into the game from tipoff. As the Smashers grabbed a 13-2 lead to end the first quarter and never looked back. J’Mya Cutter lead all scoring with 19 points. Jasmine Thompson followed with 13 point, Sy’Marieona Williams added 12 points, Tianna Williams dropped 9 points, Jaelan Phillips, 4 points, and Alana Boomer chipped in 2 points. SCJ’s post player Giana Copeland scored 3 points and came up big with a double double in blocks and rebounds. Brandon Lindsey of Johnson predicted his team will make a deep run towards the state title. GAC who defeated Beach in the Elite 8 was predicted to win the state by High School Sports Experts. GAC trailed throughout the game with several key Division 1 players. Coach Lindsey of Johnson said, “That has been the theme of this season, that my team can play with any

team.” Lindsey felt that his teams has been disrespected throughout the media state wide because of the lack of notoriety his players did not receive. Granted, they were state runner-up to Beach last season. The Lady Smashers gave their coach an indication of how great his team is when they rallied from 12 points down

to steal a victory over Beach on their senior night. Johnson fought to get back to the state finals, and once they realized what they were playing for last Thursday, Johnson was locked in early that morning focusing on winning the title. Lindsey says, “I am proud of this team, coaching staff and support

Dr. David Bringman Announces Candidacy for School Board District 6

Dr. David Bringman

Dr. David Bringman PT, DPT has announced his candidacy for the District 6 seat on the Savannah-Chatham County Public School Board. David’s election would allow him to advocate for a safer learning environment in Chatham County Public Schools including enhanced safety measures

for existing facilities and additional counselors, and the development of policies and programs that will foster a learning environment in which students of all abilities and backgrounds can thrive and reach their potential. David also believes that the School District needs to work collaboratively with other local

governments, businesses, non-profits, religious, and volunteer organizations and wants to ensure that the Board of Education quickly and competently implements the recommendations outlined in AdvancEd’s recent report. David has been a resident of District 6 since 1984, is an alumni of Gould Elementary, Butler Elementary, and Bartlett Middle School and is a proud 1997 graduate of Alfred Ely Beach High School. Skilled public school teachers gave David the foundation that helped him earn both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physical Therapy from Armstrong, and in 2010, David returned to the classroom to earn his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Simmons College. David is actively em-

ployed as both a practitioner at St. Joseph’s hospital and a teacher in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at Georgia Southern’s Armstong campus. He and his wife are deeply invested in their southside community, and his children have attended Savannah-Chatham public schools for 8 years, giving him insight to the challenges faced by parents, teachers, students, staff and volunteers as they work to shape future generations. In 2016, David was elected to serve as a leader in Armstrong’s faculty senate, eventually serving as President during the Armstrong-Georgia Southern consolidation. Putting emotional attachment to his alma mater aside, he worked alongside the presidents of both universities and other leaders to seek

out mutually beneficial solutions during this historic merger. He is looking forward to the opportunity to bring his leadership skills and insights gathered both as a graduate of and as a parent with children in Savannah-Chatham public schools to the School Board and serving his community. “After being approached by parents, teachers, and other constituents, I have decided that now is the time to run for school board. I am a graduate of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School system. My mother worked 20 years for the school system and both of my children attend schools in the system. I want to be a part of a collaborative school board that works to foster learning for each individual student.”

Health News Local Nutritionist - Cancer Expert Speaks at CAM for Cancer Conference

West Palm Beach, FL – At the 12th Annual Annie Appleseed Conference: Complementary Alternative Medicine for Cancer. Dozens of National and International Cancer Experts held court. 3 days of sessions teaching, motivating and cheering hundreds of cancer patients, cancer survivors, along with their families and friends. The goal is to learn that there’s not one way to beat cancer, but many new and old natural therapies to combat cancer. Doctors, Nurses, Nutritionists and practitioners of many disciplines gathered to share the many ways to outsmart cancer, harness and unleash the body’s own healing abilities and to live a happy, healthy life after cancer. Carolyn Guilford, Savannah, Georgia cancer expert, nutritionist and wellness coach, was invited to return to the South Florida Conference to share her special brand of creating

wellness for clients. Carolyn’s talk offered the first tools she uses in guiding clients along a successful path toward true health. Saying “to achieve healing in the stressful state of fear and uncertainty is difficult, if not impossible, when this first step is overlooked.” Ms. Guilford’s talk titled “Burn the Past”, was a story of devastation and loss, that unfolded into marvelous success. Outlining steps from mindset and lifestyle change, commitment and courage to stay the course, and then celebration. A formula for success on which every road to success is paved. After a diagnosis of cancer, or any life threatening disease, the first question most persons will ask is “what do I do now?” Careful consideration of the answer will set the stage for the outcome. Carolyn’s advice is to pause, give thought to one’s personal needs and wants, family concerns, and

to consider all treatment options, before a final decision. In nearly every case, time is on your side, take it. Carolyn’s approach in working with clients is to support their decisions, to offer better nutrition and lifestyle choices and the implementation, while allaying fears. Acting as a guide and advocate, in the process, and to assist client in taking ownership of the outcome. Having a coach who is a cancer expert - in lifestyle and in nutrition, is imperative, just by virtue of the information and resources she has for an excellent outcome. Carolyn Guilford is a Nutritionist, Cancer Biology Scholar, Wellness coach, and Author living and working in Savannah, GA. Working primarily for clients with Heart disease, Diabetes and Cancer. YOU’RE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS For all you were to us in life And all the joy you brought, Your memory is with us In every single thought. The pain we felt at loosing you Will never go away, But knowing that You’re in our hearts Helps us through each day. When you were here we always felt That nothing could go wrong, But you’re still our inspiration And your memory keeps us strong. And though our heart is heavy It’s also full of Love And that’s enough to comfort us While you’re in Heaven above.

With the addition of the new parking rules and revenue we would ask that it be properly audited. As this is new revenue there will be nothing to compare to so it is imperative to keep an eye on it. Savannah is a city that relies on the tourism industry. There has been an increase in aggressive panhandlers in the squares. They often make physical contact and yell obscenities. This occurs both day and night. There is a police presence at night to help monitor the situation, but lacking during the day. We would just ask to consider this for the safety of the residents of Savannah and the tourists of Savannah. Worship Center in Richmond Hill, Georgia will be the guestr speaker. Please come out and join us for these services. Rev. Dr. Scotty L. Mitchell is the church pastor.
