Congratulations!

We would like to thank those teams who have hit their EPR training target.

This is a huge achievement as we get ready for the Go Live weekend. The digital team went around both hospitals congratulating them and giving them some sweet treats.

Parking update

We’re rolling out Phase 2 parking permits for bank staff, as well as our colleagues from external partners like Shropdoc, Shropshire Community Health Trust, and Shropshire Council who require parking at RSH or PRH.

Additionally, students and apprentices needing to register their vehicles can do so without any payment required.

Please ensure that you park correctly according to our parking regulations, which can be found here. Anyone who parks in breach of the rules is liable to be issued, without warning, with a Parking Charge Notice by Group Nexus on behalf of the Trust. A big thank you to everyone using our Park and Ride services at PRH and/or RSH.

PRH Park and Ride essentials:

• The PRH Park and Ride service operates with white minibuses.

• Registration is mandatory before using the service.

• Timetable, parking directions and more details for both Park and Rides are on our Park and Ride intranet page.

Registration is easy!

To register for the PRH Park and Ride, simply email sath.prhparkandride@nhs.net with your name, NHS email, and registration number formatted as shown in the example: AB24 CDE. Ensure confirmation of registration before using the service (you only need to register once).

Supporting smooth parking operations:

• Consider off-site parking to free up spaces for shift-working colleagues.

• Explore Park and Ride options for a stressfree commute.

• Parking is in the front car park of Bucks Head AFC Telford United Football Club on Haybridge Road, opposite Wellington Fire Station.

• Embrace sustainable travel or remote work where feasible.

• Share your ideas and suggestions; your input is invaluable.

• Ensure your parking registration is up to date.

Here’s what Sam l’Anson, Education Systems Manager, and Sian Owen, Senior Education Support Unit Advisor, have to say about the RSH Park and Ride:

“My colleague, Sian, and I often walk in from the Park and Ride in the morning, it gets some steps in and a nice way to start the day. I’ll sometimes walk back or get the bus – it’s nice to have the option.

“We were trying to beat a personal best with our time this morning – so it was a brisk walk.

“The Park and Ride is so easy, plenty of space to park, the shops are very handy, and I’m not trying to navigate all the parked cars on kerbs when leaving at the end of the day.”

For parking-related queries,

contact extension 3007 or email us at sth-tr. carparking@nhs.net. We value your feedback at sath.improvinghospitals@nhs.net as we continually improve our services.

Thank you for adapting your routine to save spaces for patients and shift-working colleagues.

From Monday 20-Friday 24 May, we will be holding our second Research, Innovation and Improvement Week.

We strive to provide high-quality, safe care that is evidence-based and innovative. This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our commitment to putting research, innovation and improvement methodology at the heart of what we do.

It is an opportunity for all colleagues to learn more about what is taking place at the Trust, but also bring forward their own ideas.

Activities planned for the week include networking meetings and an interactive session where

colleagues can discuss their own home-grown ideas with external partners from places, such as Keele University and the Clinical Research Network. The week will finish with the Research, Innovation and SaTH Improvement Conference.

Book on to the conference via LMS

We will be sharing some excellent examples of research, innovation and improvement from our colleagues. If you would like to contribute, please contact the Communications Team at sath. commsteam@nhs.net to share your stories.

The timetable for the week is available to view on the Intranet. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates soon.

Nephew’s care recognised by proud auntie

A team of 10 people from Muller Dairies in Market Drayton are tackling the UK’s 3 Peaks Challenge.

The team will be climbing the three highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours on Saturday 4 May. Each person in the team has chosen a charity close to their hearts and Alice Shingler chose SaTH Charity’s Neonatal Fund.

Alice decided to take on this arduous challenge as her nephew received treatment on the Neonatal ward at the Princess Royal Hospital. Alice was so impressed with the care given to the newborn she was inspired to train and take on the challenge, which includes climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and will finish with a hike up Yr Wyddfa (previously known as Snowdon).

Shirley Teece, Interim Neonatal Ward Manager, “We are grateful to Alice for fundraising for the Neonatal Unit, we get to know patients and their families very well. Every donation helps us

to enhance patient and families experience of being on the unit.’’

Alice said of the challenge “I’m raising money for the Neonatal Unit at the Princess Royal Hospital, a cause close to our heart at this time as my nephew, Eddie, is being cared for there after being born 10 weeks early, weighing 2lbs 2oz.The neonatal unit provide the most exceptional medical care to babies born premature or sick and is also fantastic support to parents during this difficult time.”

Haven’t Jota Clue on the ball

The annual SaTH Charity Football Tournament is taking place on Sunday 19 May, and 14 teams have signed up to raise money for the Dementia Fund appeal.

We are so impressed by the fundraising efforts of each team this year, we thought we would showcase a few. Today we are focusing on the respiratory ward team at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital - they are one of two women’s teams that have signed up to the tournament. A first for the tournament!

The team named ‘Haven’t Jota Clue’ was set up by Sarah Dillow a nursing associate on the Respiratory ward, after seeing the amazing work of the Dementia team she was inspired to put a team together. The team is made up of Sarah Dillow, Chantelle Teare, Gemma Lewis, Kirsty Granda, Kirsty Huckin, Eve Rutherford, Libby Cummins, Arya Mohandas, Cerys Dowman, Jennie Downes, and Ashrah Hamdani.

The Respiratory team see lots of patients on their wards who are living with dementia and several of the team have family members experiencing dementia, so they understand the challenges these patients face when admitted to hospital.

Sarah said “We have lots of patients admitted to our ward who are living with dementia, and we see how the resources that the dementia team gives out to these patients make a real difference. The

items given can be things like knitted blankets or reminiscence items, they are all single use, so they stay with the patient when they are discharged.”

“The Respiratory team is much closer after working through COVID-19, it put life into perspective, it made us like a close-knit family, and we wanted to come together and do something positive to support the dementia team as we know they do a great job.”

The team is so keen they’ve ordered T-shirts with their names on and have been training regularly. Together they have smashed their first fundraising target of £500 and have so far raised £781 for the Dementia appeal.

Julia Clarke, Director of Public Participation, said: “We are so grateful to the Respiratory team for putting together a team for this year’s SaTH Charity Football tournament, last year’s event raised £1,000 and Haven’t Jota a Clue have almost raised as much money by their own fundraising efforts. We know every penny raised will make a real difference to the patients on our wards.”

Spectators are encouraged to come along and shout for their favourite team on the Sunday 19 May, 9:30am until 4pm at Shrewsbury Sports Village!
