Our fantastic volunteer team is supporting our UEC Stronger Together ambitions by trialling new volunteer ‘Discharge Drivers’.
The volunteer drivers will be based in the discharge lounges to start with and will take patients who are able to travel in a car, back to their home.
It is hoped this initiative will speed up discharge and support patients who may not be eligible for patient transport and so would struggle to get home or have long waits for collection.
Stronger Together - transforming UEC is everyone’s responsibility.
• This is a real opportunity for us to try new things
• We have been asking colleagues to share their ideas for how we can improve care and live within our budget
• These are being worked through by our new Transformation Forum, with some already resolved
• Hot topics include printing costs, digitising more services, and repairing items before buying new
• We want to harness your ideas to make meaningful, lasting changes
• You are the experts in your areas so please share your ideas, big and small – sath.strongertogether@nhs.net
• We are seeing beds (£2,000 each) that are damaged beyond economical use – this will result in nearly 60 beds being condemned across the Trust.
• Repairing these comes at a cost and there is only so much maintenance our Estates teams can doplease help us to look after them.
• To help us stop and think about every pound we spend
• Everyone at SaTH has a role to play in this
• Big transformation programmes to help us drive improvementsbut we mustn’t forget about the ‘little things’ too • The changes we make can have a positive impact on patient experience and the environment, as well as finances • We are all taxpayers – treat every pound as if it

Parking permits
If you have registered for either permit on the GroupNexus platform, please take the time to double check your vehicle details. We have recently issued PCNs to staff who have either not updated their permit with a new vehicle, or who have entered an incorrect registration number. For example, using an O instead of a 0. Please follow the appeals process on the back of the PCN if you feel you have been incorrectly charged.
Purple zone car park
The purple zone parking area near the Treatment Centre is for on call or cross site staff. We are currently reviewing the use of this area by twilight staff as more groups of staff are now able to use the Park & Ride. For on-call /cross-site clinical workers you must be pre-registered on an exemption list. For twilight workers you must have a permit issued by your department. All staff parking in this area must also pay for a permit. If you feel you qualify to park in this area, please email sth-tr.carparking@nhs.net
Thank you to everyone who is making the most of the sunshine and using the site at Oxon to Park & Walk and to all the cyclists who are helping to alleviate traffic on
In some circumstances, it is appropriate to use mobile messaging to communicate with colleagues and patients/service users.
Commercial and off-the-shelf applications may be used where there is no practical alternative, and the benefits outweigh the risk. You should check with your IG team what your organisational policy is, such as whether it has approved a specific app for use, and in which circumstances.
Mobile messaging can be useful in health and care settings, particularly in emergency situations, but you should take sufficient steps to safeguard confidentiality. A series of tips that will help you to use mobile messaging safely and keep information confidential are available here: Using mobile messaging - NHS Transformation Directorate
The risk management team supports teams Trust-wide with clinical and non-clinical risks. We provide assurance that the Trust is providing high quality care in a safe environment and that it is complying with legal and regulatory requirements. Below is a table that demonstrates how each division is managing its risks that affect its achievement of the Trust’s strategic objectives.
