There is plenty that sets an SAS high school education apart from that of other international schools, and certainly, from that of other US high schools. One of the most notable is the Catalyst project, an in-depth personalized learning experience.
The Catalyst project is a cultural as well as instructional self-study project where students work with a mentor on a self-directed learning experience. Each project is aimed at a specific and strategic, measurable, attainable, results-oriented, and time-bound goal. Students demonstrate their competency in the Catalyst project’s standards, centered around character, collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and cultural competence, also known as the school’s learning aspirations, in addition to self-awareness and application.
According to the latest research in education, learning is at its greatest, most relevant, and most meaningful when it is student-initiated and student-led. Ask adults today what they remember learning in high school, and their answer will often involve a learning opportunity where they were able to dive deep into an area of interest, often applying what they were learning in an authentic context. Colleges also recognize students who have the opportunity to dive deep, overcome challenges, and find meaning in their learning as stronger candidates for admission and success in college. This reality is the foundation and rationale for the Catalyst project course.
This innovative and engaging approach to education challenges high school juniors and seniors to embark upon a culminating final project in an area of their particular passion and interest.
Similar to other academic offerings, the Catalyst project course includes a set of desired learning outcomes. The objective of the course is to harness students’ core knowledge, develop their character, and hone their skills in collaboration, communication, creativity and innovation, critical thinking, and cultural competence. All these values will help ensure success when they go on to pursue bachelor’s degrees at colleges and universities all over the world and in life beyond.
The Catalyst project gives students the opportunity to pursue their own paths of exploration in an academic setting, while demonstrating their readiness for university learning to the fullest extent of their enthusiasm, autonomy, capacity, and complexity. A student may conduct university laboratory research into autoimmunity treatment, or establish their own cosmetics company. They might want to conduct an extended service learning project, or perhaps spend a semester as an intern in a working art studio. There are no limits to what a student can do in Catalyst.
The Catalyst Project is a rite of passage for every SAS High School Student to take in their Senior or Junior year. Ultimately, Catalyst represents a formidable feature of the SAS high school education, one that sets SAS high school graduates apart, differentiates them from their peers across the globe, and proves their unique abilities, capacity for excellence, and readiness for achievement at the university level.
The Catalyst program is supported in part by the SAS Foundations. We thank you, the donor community, for your generosity which makes these projects possible.

Redacted: The Making of a Modern Metamorphosis
Who are we when the world decides to forget us? Redacted is a one-act science fiction tragedy inspired by Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, reimagining themes of alienation and identity for the digital age. This project explores questions that matter deeply to me—and to our time: What defines a person? Who decides whose stories are preserved or erased? Blending speculative fiction with emotional storytelling, Redacted is both a creative adaptation and a personal response to a world where identity feels increasingly fragile, and remembrance is never guaranteed.
Visualizing Finance: Using Python
“Understanding the stock market shouldn’t stop at reading numbers—it should involve seeing the story they tell.
That’s what inspired me to visualize market data and build smarter models using Python...Python became my tool for breaking down complex financial problems. As I work through an in-depth course, I’m building models that go beyond spreadsheets—simple, clear, and powerful. I’m documenting the process with the goal of launching a site where others can learn to build practical financial tools. No flashy gimmicks—just clean code, useful concepts, and blog-style posts that make quantitative finance approachable.”
Singapore has so much more to offer than just its cityscape. It also contains hidden trails that let you connect with nature in a way most people don’t realize. My catalyst project looks at how we might present hikes that bring tourists and locals to these secret spots, while sparking adventure and a deeper appreciation for nature. Through Instagram visuals, the hope is to guide more people toward these hidden trails and show them a side of Singapore they may have never seen before.
A Real World Environment Created All From Unreal Engine
Using Unreal Engine’s innovative technology, I created a realistic 3D landscape designed to digitize a real-world location. With this project, I aimed to replicate the photorealistic CGI scenes often seen in movies and explore how to craft images that could be mistaken for real-life photographs. The process involved working with lighting, textures, shadows, and more—all coming together to form an interactive digital canvas. I hope you’ll see the potential with what this futuristic technology has to offer.
Empowering the Individual: Creating a Holistic Guide to Nutritional Education and Wellness
What if a journal could change your health from the inside out? I set out with the goal to design and print a purpose-driven wellness journal to help individuals build lasting, healthy habits through deeper self-awareness. Blending daily reflections, goal-setting prompts, and nutritional insights, the journal supports both mental and physical balance. More than a planner, it’s a tool for transformation— empowering users to reconnect with their bodies, make intentional choices, and foster sustainable well-being one day at a time.

My SG Sendoff: Reviewing My Final Adventures on TikTok
With my last few months in Singapore approaching, I wanted to make the most out of my time here by trying new ways to stay active and creative. From pilates and hot yoga to boxing, pottery, and artjamming, I’m using ClassPass and local spots to explore it all. I’ll be sharing my honest reviews and experiences on Tiktok, hoping to inspire others to get out there too. Through my project, I want to make lasting memories, push myself out of my comfort zone, and inspire people to try new things.
A Comparative Analysis of AI-Driven and Traditional Investment Strategies: Implications for Risk, Return, and Enthusiast Education.
Can artificial intelligence outperform traditional investing? This project compares AI-assisted and traditional investment strategies by tracking two virtual portfolios side by side. Through a video series, I explore financial models, risk management techniques, and AI tools to analyze their performance over time. Designed for investing enthusiasts, the project aims to provide clear insights into how AI might enhance decisionmaking and returns in modern finance. By combining research with real-time simulations, I’m testing the future of investing—one portfolio at a time.
Discover the process of purifying air through technology. In this project, an eco-friendly, solarpowered air filter is designed using Fusion 360 in an attempt to purify the surrounding air near houses, vehicles, and public places. You get to see the designing process from an idea to 3D modelling and learn how solar energy and technology can be merged to solve daily life problems. Whether you care about clean air or product development, this presentation offers insight through which innovation can make daily environments healthy and secure.
What if simply wearing the right colors could make you look better, feel more confident, and shop smarter? My project explores personalized color analysis—an approach to discovering the shades that naturally suit your features. Through the Instagram account I created, I break down how to identify your season and apply your palette to clothing, makeup, and everyday style. Understanding your ideal colors doesn’t just elevate your appearance—it simplifies choices, curbs over-shopping, and empowers selfexpression. This project helps people feel confident in what they wear and embrace their unique style with clarity and purpose.
Backpacks to Brighter Futures
Imagine being a child with big dreams, but no access to school. In Bali and across Indonesia, many kids are denied an education because of poverty or they live in a remote area. This project partners with Bali Children’s Project, an organization that provides underprivileged children with essential skills like reading and writing. Education opens doors to brighter futures, yet thousands are still left behind. By raising awareness and support, we can help change that. Join us in helping every child gain an education, because learning should never be a luxury.
Bites: Where Food Meets Film
“Have you eaten yet?” was the first question I’d hear growing up in a Korean household—a simple phrase that reflects deep care in East Asian cultures. Inspired by this, I combined my love for movies and food to create a social media platform analyzing East Asian films and explored how culinary moments serve as powerful storytelling tools. This project has taught me to be an intentional viewer and deepened my understanding of how food in film reflects identity, memory, and cultural connection, allowing me to better appreciate both cinema and my own heritage.
@DementiaFirstAid: Making Emergency Care Easier for Dementia Families
Inspired by my grandparents—both of whom have dementia—I created a project to help caregivers and teens like me feel prepared when emergencies happen. Through my @DementiaFirstAid Instagram and TikTok pages, I post clear, short videos about how to respond to situations like choking, falls, and cardiac arrest. I also got certified in CPR, AED, and BCLS at Red Cross and used what I learned to break it down in a way that’s simple, visual, and easy to understand. My goal is to raise awareness, teach life-saving skills, and make a difference—one post at a time.
Yarn & Peace: Educating on the Mental Health Benefits of Crochet
In the rush of high school life, I found stillness in an unexpected place: a crochet hook and a spool of yarn. This project explores the link between creativity and mental health, focusing on how crocheting can foster mindfulness and emotional clarity. I taught myself how to make handmade crochet tops while using an Instagram platform to share my journey, educate others on the mental health benefits of crocheting, and even give my tops to my community. Through each stitch, I discovered how creative practices can become tools for reflection and relief- offering expression and comfort in a world that rarely slows down.
Autonomy Through Financial Literacy
The goal is impact. This project bridges classroom learning with real-world readiness through a school-wide advisory program and studentled, TikTok-style content. Our mission: to equip students with practical financial skills and the confidence to manage their money independently. From budgeting lunch money to resisting emotional spending, students engage through games, real-life scenarios, and relatable media. But it’s more than just finance. This initiative promotes self-autonomy, normalizes conversations about money, and helps shape future-ready leaders. We’re not just teaching financial literacy—we’re creating habits, shifting mindsets, and making lessons that last far beyond the classroom.
Early Detection, Better Direction: Redesigning Scoliosis Screening Communication at SAS
“When recess feels more important than a health check, early detection can slip by unnoticed. I was diagnosed with scoliosis in seventh grade— but the signs were likely there earlier. That experience inspired my project: Early Detection, Better Direction. Focused on redesigning the scoliosis screening website at SAS, this project aims to better inform, support, and reassure students and their families. I worked on improving visuals, refining how information is presented, and addressing common fears to make the screening process more approachable and meaningful. Clear, accessible communication is the first step toward empowering others to take charge of their health— before it’s too late.
“
Home Cooked History
What if preserving your culture could start in the kitchen? In a fast-paced world where convenience often overshadows tradition, I set out to reconnect with my Taiwanese heritage through cooking. From mastering lu rou fan at Palate Sensations to learning family recipes beside my grandmother in Taiwan, I discovered that food holds both memory and meaning. I shared this journey with my Chinese class, using stories and flavors to highlight the importance of cultural preservation. Through this project, I hope to inspire others to rediscover their roots—one recipe at a time.
The’ah K’ah: Constructed Languages as Self Expression
Nothing immerses someone in a fictitious story quite like a constructed language. From hearing Sindarin chants in The Lord of the Rings soundtrack to listening to Klingon schemes, constructed languages breathe life into media. As an avid fantasy and sci-fi fan, etymology enthusiast, as well as an artist, I wanted to explore not just the creation of a constructed language and world-building, but how constructed languages can function as a form of self expression and art.
What if a scent could be powerful, natural, and affordable—all at once? For my Catalyst project, I set out to design an organic cologne that’s longlasting, cost-effective, and completely free of synthetic ingredients. I’ve always been fascinated by how scent can leave a lasting impression—and equally drawn to the science behind it. This project allowed me to combine both passions. I researched cologne structure, explored natural ingredient options, and attended a fragrance design class to understand how great scents are crafted. With guidance from my mentor, I’m working toward a final formula that balances performance, purity, and accessibility.
Social media is often criticized for its addictive nature and role in fueling consumerism, but its marketing potential, especially for small businesses, is often overlooked. Many small business owners struggle to gain visibility due to limited marketing skills. To address this, I partnered with Maracuya Handmade, a local business, and created a personalized marketing course to help boost their online presence. After implementing the course, I analyzed which strategies proved most effective. This project demonstrates how social media, when used strategically, can empower small businesses by offering accessible tools to grow their brand and reach a wider audience.
Have you ever sat at home hungry, unsure what to cook — and realized eating out is too expensive and not always healthy? That’s exactly why I created my catalyst project: to help people make meals that are affordable, nutritious, and taste good. Everyone deserves to eat well, no matter their budget or cooking skills. I learned that many people don’t know how to make simple, balanced meals at home, so I made it my mission to change that. I show how to turn basic ingredients into filling, healthy dishes through easy-to-follow videos. If you’re looking for meals that are good for your body and your wallet, just watch and eat.
Making a difference by sharing my personal story and knowledge on Lupus is the focus of my Catalyst project. I am creating a podcast series that raises awareness about Lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease I was diagnosed two years ago. I will share my personal story, information and resources, and other people’s story and perspectives. My goal is to inspire and give others hope, as well as provide relevant information on Lupus. Through learning about podcasting and speaking with others, I realized how engaging podcasts can help to spread important information on issues that matter.
The Best of Both Worlds
“Food isn’t just a blend of flavors—it’s a reflection of history, family, and identity. Drawing from my diverse ethnic background, I’ve created a cookbook that brings together recipes from India, Germany, and beyond. Each dish preserves a memory, passed down through generations and rooted in cultural tradition.
Designed to be accessible for all skill levels, the cookbook invites readers to explore global flavors while honoring heritage. This project is more than just food—it’s a celebration of culture, connection, and storytelling through every bite.”
Breaking the Injury Cycle
As an athlete, I’ve had my fair share of injuries. While some were unavoidable, many could have been prevented. That realization inspired me to create a platform dedicated to helping SAS athletes better understand, prevent, and recover from common sports injuries. By identifying root causes and sharing practical strategies, my goal is to empower athletes to take proactive steps toward staying healthy and performing at their best. Together, we can break the cycle of preventable injuries—one step, one athlete, and one smarter recovery at a time.
What if a 15-second video could capture what family means? For my senior project, I focused on something deeply personal: family. I created a TikTok account dedicated to sharing family-focused content, posting videos twice a week with the goal of growing my viewership by 10%. Along the way, I learned how to work with TikTok’s algorithm, hook viewers in seconds, and craft stories that feel fun, relatable, and meaningful. With guidance from mentors and feedback from peers, I turned everyday moments into personal reflections. This project showed me how digital storytelling can bring people closer—sometimes in ways I never expected.
Have you ever dreamed of playing college soccer in the U.S.—but didn’t know where to start? The U.S. college soccer system offers incredible opportunities, especially for international players. But the path can feel overwhelming. This project breaks it down step by step—from understanding eligibility and scholarships to making a standout impression on coaches. With the right tools and insider advice, you can confidently navigate the recruitment process and take control of your soccer future. Your dream is closer than you think. Let’s make it happen—together.
Running Through Obstacles in Singapore
What’s really stopping you from becoming the runner you really want to be in Singapore? How can you do so safely? These are the kinds of questions I’ve wanted to answer since I began my recovery journey from an injury one year ago. I’ve decided to answer these questions and document my journey of volunteering and interviewing runners in Singapore. Primarily through volunteering in local running clubs in Singapore.
Who doesn’t love a good trivia game? To combine my love for coding and learning random facts, I designed a fast-paced competitive trivia game that challenges your curiosity as you race against the clock. In the process, I researched new ways to design a game economy and how to implement engaging animations through code. Featuring intriguing categories from science to pop culture and an interface bursting with fun animation, it’s built for brainiacs and casual players alike.
Create Your Own Click: A Custom Mouse Workshop Walls That Speak
Have you ever felt like your mouse just doesn’t fit right—maybe it’s too heavy, too light, too big, or too small? I have. After noticing that many of my friends also struggled to find a mouse that suited them, I decided to do something about it. I designed a workshop where students can learn to design and build their own custom mouse. Using beginner-friendly tools like Fusion 360 to model the outer shell and a simple electronics kit for the internal components, students create mice that not only function well but are tailored to their unique preferences.
“Have you ever visited a city without spotting graffiti tucked away in its corners? (I for one have not) I chose graffiti as my topic not just for its bold colors or rebellious nature—but because it speaks to me. As someone with dyslexia, visual expression has always come easier than words. Graffiti, to me, is art; raw, fleeting, and powerful. It’s a secret voice on public walls, a way of pushing back and being seen. Through this project, I explore graffiti’s meaning, and even try creating my own piece— hidden, maybe, but full of heart. “
Bubble Bliss: Organic soaps, made with love
Resilience in Motion: Dance Therapy for Migrant Domestic Workers
Whenever someone asks what I want for my birthday, my answer is always the same: Bath & Body Works, The Body Shop—anything that smells amazing. For my Catalyst project, I turned that passion into a hands-on venture. I researched soap-making, attended a workshop, and worked with my mentor and peers to craft organic soaps from scratch. My goal was to create products people genuinely enjoy—and sell them at school. This project blends creativity with entrepreneurship, transforming something I love into something I could share.
“Migrant domestic workers in Singapore endure challenging lives - working tirelessly six days a week for unfamiliar families, with little opportunity to prioritize their mental well-being. My catalyst project addresses this issue through a short film. In a few minutes, I want to shed light on how the upcoming field of dance movement therapy can foster resilience and healing within. This process has deepened my appreciation for these individuals and their perseverance. Additionally, I’m applying for a grant to start Singapore’s first dance therapy clinic in hopes of leaving a lasting impact by empowering others through dance.
**Vani has published an article in the International Journal of High School Research. Her article is titled, “”Applying Culture - and Trauma - Informed Therapeutic Principles to Dance/Movement Therapy””. Link to the article: https://doi.org/10.36838/v7i1.1”
Fran Kersman Chris Kim
This project explores the ways in which professional sports teams shape the culture, economy, and social identity of big cities—from their beginnings to the present and into the future. In a student-produced podcast, it will feature interviews, storytelling, and research to explore how teams affect local businesses, unite communities, and reflect city values. The podcast will promote conversations about sports as something more than entertainment—highlighting their lasting influence on urban existence. With a strong promotion strategy and engaging episode structure, the aim is to engage a wide spectrum of audience and emphasize the intense affinity of sporting teams and their respective cities.
Most people favor one side of their body in everyday tasks and sports—but what if we could train both sides equally? My project explores ambidexterity, focusing on developing coordination in both hands through basketball. From dribbling to layups, I’ve tracked my progress as I build skills with my non-dominant side. More than just a physical challenge, this project is about stepping outside of comfort zones and embracing discomfort as a path to growth. Whether on the court or in life, balance and adaptability matter—and we can train for both.
Late Nights & Last-Minute Goals: The Psychology of High School Football Fans
For football fans in Singapore, late-night matches often come at the cost of sleep, focus, and nextday energy—but the passion runs deep. This project explores the psychological and academic effects of staying up to watch international football, a common habit among high school students. Through interviews, surveys, and expert research, I examined how disrupted sleep patterns, emotional highs and lows, and time spent on fandom can affect concentration, stress levels, and academic performance. My Catalyst Project offers strategies to help students enjoy the sport they love—without sacrificing their well-being or goals.
A Student Guide to Internships: What comes after education?
For students, stepping into the workforce—whether through internships or entry-level jobs—means taking on a new level of responsibility. Wanting to help others prepare for that transition, I combined my passion for law with firsthand experience by interning at a law firm. From that experience, I created a resource to support fellow students as they navigate their own early professional paths. For my Catalyst project, I’m sharing insights and answering common questions through a series of informational blog posts, aiming to demystify the internship experience and empower others as they begin their own career journeys.
Your piggy bank is eating your money. As children you were taught to save, but never taught what to do with the money you save. I designed a board game to teach children the power of compound interest, and about different kinds of investments in the real world. Through simple cards, easy to learn game play, and colorful designs investing is child’s play.
Have you ever spent more time scrolling through food reviews than actually eating? This project dives into how social media can be a powerful tool for discovering Singapore’s rich and diverse food scene. Through research and conversations with influencers and peers, I found that visual appeal, credibility, and clear navigation are essential for making food content truly helpful. Join me on TikTok as I help you scroll less and taste more!
The Universal Language Creative Writing: A Balance of Quality, Quantity, and Stamina.
“Music has the unique ability to communicate without words. This project follows my journey of self-learning piano to connect with my grandmother, a former opera singer, despite our language barrier. By teaching myself to play, I found a new way to engage with her and explore our shared cultural background. The project centers on a series of performances that reflect this process and demonstrate how music can bridge generational and cultural divides as well as foster new relationships. It encourages others to see music as a practical tool for connection and expression, even when learning independently.”
How far can a story go when you finally share it? My Catalyst project revolves around my love for creative writing. This semester, I researched writing contests and publishing opportunities to submit my work, helping me increase my writing volume, improve my revision process, and reach new audiences. I’ve experimented with flash fiction, short stories, and poetry—each one pushing me to grow in different ways. I also reached out to a published author for feedback on a novel I’ve been developing. Through this journey, I’ve gained valuable insight into the creative process, from drafting and revising to sharing stories with the world.
Bit by bit: Learning 3D Design
What if you could take a digital idea—and hold it in your hand? In today’s world, 3D printing is one of the most valuable skills in engineering and design. For my project, I set out to create a custom 3D-printed chess set as a way to sharpen my Fusion 360 skills and better understand the full printing process. Blending art with engineering, I designed each piece with care and precision. Along the way, I encountered challenges like print failures and sizing errors—but each setback became a chance to learn. This project showed me how patience, planning, and creativity can turn virtual concepts into something real.
“Having played the saxophone for a third of my life, I’ve learned one important thing: getting started without a teacher is tough. Today, many young students have access to a wealth of opportunities— but music often isn’t one of them. In many primary schools, including ours, band, choir, and strings programs are simply not offered. My presentation explores my journey to becoming a saxophone teacher, documenting each step—from research to hands-on teaching—ultimately highlighting the incredible, often untapped, musical talent of younger students. It’s time we recognize this potential and take steps to include music education in our school’s curriculum for them.
“
Underground artists deserve the attention for their high quality music instead of being absent from the big scene. My project mostly focuses on using AI to help detect music quality and use that in order to spread awareness on their music. Some main things I found out about the project is that AI does indeed have the ability to detect music quality and that it is possible nowadays to create a bot that helps create AI models. With this project I hope to save the careers of many underground artists out there for the greater good.
Ever felt like it’s too late to try something new? As part of my Catalyst project, I started a YouTube series to document my beginner volleyball journey and show that it’s never too late to try something new. Along the way, I stepped out of my comfort zone, learned to ask for help, and found a supportive community that made all the difference. Whether you’re picking up a sport or chasing a long-time goal, I hope my story inspires you to take that first step—you might be surprised by what (and who) you find.
Growing up an expat in Singapore from age seven meant limited connection to my own culture. Yet, I’ve always been proud of my heritage and city. Food, a central part of our culture, is how people connect – the reason for this project. With college and another move coming, I know many international students adapt like I once did. This cookbook? It’s how I stay rooted, and how I help others feel a little more at home.
Preparation for the National Service IPPT test is not easy—and to be honest, I had no clue where to start. That’s why I decided to document the process as a video series, capturing the highs, lows, and everything in between as I prepared for the test.
I’m not a pro athlete or fitness influencer—just a student learning as I go, one rep at a time. Along the way, I did more than learn to perform the proper push-ups. My goal? To encourage others like me to take that first step and know they’re more capable than they think.
Stick and Smile: Making people happy with customised stickers
Who doesn’t love stickers? I do—and I’ve always wondered how they’re made. For my project, I explored the process of creating custom stickers and how something so small can bring people joy. By combining creativity and humor, I designed stickers as a form of self-expression—sharing them with friends, family, and teachers. The result? Smiles, laughs, and meaningful connections. This project reminded me that creativity doesn’t have to be complicated to make an impact. Sometimes, a simple sticker can brighten someone’s day.
ByteSizeCoding
In a world where computer programming can feel out of reach for self-learners, ByteSizeCoding offers a beginner’s perspective on tackling programming head-on. Motivated by a desire to improve my own coding abilities, I developed this website that documents my step-by-step journey in learning Python---from basic syntax to small projects---to make computer science more approachable for those overwhelmed by the complex syntax or random bugs. Through simple interactives, visuals, and reflections, ByteSizeCoding aims to inspire others to fully embrace the learning process of computer programming, one line at a time.
Parenting with Purpose: A Journey Through ADHD
Raising a child with ADHD can feel like a rollercoaster. My project aims to create a book of real stories from parents who’ve gone through this journey. Through heartfelt interviews, I hope to capture the voices of parents who are learning to understand and support their neurodivergent children, while also offering hope and guidance to others going through the same experience.
Clay: The Gift That Keeps Giving
Clay remembers every touch—every slip, press, and pause. In my project, I explored hand-building techniques such as coiling, pinching, and slab construction to create a series of ceramic vessels that form the foundation of my artist portfolio. Each piece reflects a balance of technical skill and personal growth, shaped through intentional planning, creative experimentation, and the support of my mentors. This portfolio represents my versatility and dedication as a ceramic artist—and marks the beginning of my journey forward.
Game Plan : My take on Digital Marketing
Sports have always been a passion of mine and recently, so has marketing. This project combines my two interests in the form of a digital marketing portfolio. A portfolio consisting of mock marketing campaigns of sports players and teams. Through the process of analysing trends, audiences and then creating engaging visuals, I’m able to learn and explore how marketing can be used to shape our views and experiences. I portray my journey through hands-on experience from concept to execution of these campaigns that are compiled into the portfolio.

Finance Chat brings together real-time sentiment analysis, intuitive technical indicators, and robust portfolio management to simplify stock trading. Through backtesting features and automated risk controls, this tool helps you make informed, datadriven decisions in today’s fast-moving markets.
The Menopause Letters: Empowering Women to Share Their Stories.
Menopause remains one of the least talked about transitions in a woman’s life, often misunderstood and underrepresented. The Menopause Letters is a collection of real reflections from women who have lived through it. By partnering with WINGS, I hope to continue building this website and launching a menopause campaign in Singapore to provide a space for open conversation and hopefully shift the narrative on menopause. Read their letters. Feel seen. And maybe even write your own.
Fuel Your Performance: A High-Protein Cookbook for College Students
Fuel Your Performance is a high-protein, lowcalorie cookbook designed for seniors entering college. This project blends evidence-based nutrition research with practical, affordable, and easy-to-make recipes. Each of the fifteen meals includes clear instructions, macronutrient breakdowns, and personal ratings to support physical and mental performance. Created using Adobe InDesign, the cookbook is designed to help students build healthy, sustainable habits in their first years of independence.
Nanotechnology in Addiction Treatment Astro Clothing: Eco-friendly E-Commerce Business
“Can the smallest technology help solve one of our biggest challenges? For my Catalyst project, I explored how nanotechnology could be used to treat different forms of addiction. Driven by a fascination with both psychology and technology, I wanted to combine these interests in a field that’s still emerging. I reviewed scientific papers and studies focused on how nanotech can target addiction-related processes in the brain. To make this complex topic more accessible, I created visual diagrams that explain how the science works. My goal is to raise awareness and spark curiosity about a powerful technology with the potential to transform mental health treatment.”
As the world is making a transition toward sustainability in many different ways, one aspect that is lacking this transition is clothing. To contribute to this shift, I decided to create an e-commerce store that sells clothing made from 100% organic cotton an eco-friendly alternative to conventional materials. This task involves numerous aspects such as designing the clothes and store, applying different business strategies, and navigating the e-commerce platforms to make the most successful business. From this project I hope to learn what it takes to run a sustainable business, something I hope to do in the future.

For my Catalyst project, I created and shared a series of beginner-friendly cooking videos to explore how digital media can make cooking more accessible and fun. Focusing on simple, affordable recipes, I used clear instructions and engaging visuals to teach basic skills and encourage home cooking. Through the process of filming, editing, and publishing, I developed both creative and technical abilities—while learning how content creation can build community and inspire others to try something new in the kitchen.
Recycling PET Plastic with Enzymes Scroll. Feel. Buy.
The world as we know it is dynamic and changing constantly. We are given one earth and we must take care of it. We can’t get rid of trash by sending it to space, nor can we get materials from space, it is a closed system. So what do we do with the 25 Million Metric tons of PET Plastic in the world? We recycle it enzymatically. Find out about this new recycling process that uses enzymes to take apart plastic and reform it.
People don’t just buy products—they buy how those products make them feel. For my project, I partnered with a vintage luxury brand based in New York City to study how emotional cues influence consumer behavior. I designed Instagram campaigns that evoked nostalgia, desire, and belonging—feelings carefully matched to the audience and product. The result? Higher engagement, stronger brand loyalty, and a clear rise in sales. My project explores how emotion, when used with intention and subtlety, becomes a powerful tool—not just for capturing attention, but for creating lasting connections between brands and the people who buy from them.
Social Skills Buddy Village Microfinance Empowerment Initiative (VMEI)
This project combines artificial intelligence and social skill development to create a helpful app that helps people improve their communication. Aimed especially at neurodivergent users, the app acts like a personal coach, giving feedback through text, photo, and voice input. Using AI tools like language models and computer vision, it provides real-time advice on both verbal and non-verbal communication. Users get suggestions, personalized practice, and support that fit their needs. The goal is to make learning social skills more approachable, empathetic, and realistic by focusing on real-life situations and offering judgment-free guidance for each person’s own use.

Culinary Cuts: Cooking & Editing
“What if a recipe could teach you more than just how to cook? My project blends two passions— cooking and video editing—to create short-form videos that are as visually engaging as they are useful. Each video combines vibrant visuals, music, and on-screen effects with practical cooking tips and easy-to-follow recipes. As I develop my technical skills in both cooking and editing, I’m also learning how to tell compelling stories through food. By sharing this content online, I aim to help others gain confidence in the kitchen—one scroll, one snack, one skill at a time.”

The Magical Toothbrush Adventure is a children’s storybook that teaches readers about a public health topic–dental hygiene–in a fun and engaging way. This book aims to teach underprivileged kids about dental hygiene habits through drawings inspired by conversations with social workers and public health experts. The readers will follow Mira on a whimsical quest inside her mouth to fight off Sugar Gremlins and learn why brushing teeth is important. This project bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world readiness by launching an in-school advisory program on financial literacy—paired with student-led social media content that speaks directly to our generation. From budgeting lunch money to recognizing the emotional traps behind impulsive spending, to managing time more effectively, this initiative meets students where they are: in school, on their screens, and in their daily lives. This project celebrates creativity, confidence, and accessibility—offering a unique way for people to experiment with personal aesthetics and shine in their own way.
Aanya Seth Christopher Sheehan
After 15 years in Singapore, I realized I’d barely scratched the surface of its food scene. As a senior preparing to leave the city I’ve called home for most of my life, I wanted to make the most of my remaining time by exploring the rich diversity of Singapore’s culinary culture. Through short-form videos, I documented my visits to unique spots— from bustling hawker centers to hidden cafes and vibrant restaurants. This project wasn’t just about food—it was about rediscovery, appreciation, and inspiring others to step beyond the familiar and taste something new.
At age ten, I wish I had a resource to guide me through the beginning of diabetes. Through personal stories, nutrition hacks, emotional support, and honest advice, my project focuses on being a guide to newly diagnosed diabetics. Shaped by experience, and driven by empathy, this project is more than informative—it’s empowering. Join me in transforming confusion into confidence, and diagnosis into direction.
Mastering the Market: My Journey With Options Trading
What if you could profit by predicting stock movements - not just up or down, but even when they remain still? Options trading enables this. In my project, I’ve explored options mechanics, tested strategies, and leveraged my swing trading knowledge to manage risk and boost profits. While options offer flexibility and higher returns, they also come with significant risk. By paper trading real stocks and executing trades like long calls, puts, and spreads, I’ve learned the importance of smart risk management and technical analysis. This effort is about building a real, long-term skill set for strategic investing.
Explosive Strength: Upper and Lower Body Splits with Power Transfer
My objective is to configure my current strength training split and include plyometrics that will help me reach my goal for sports that require agility and to build explosive strength. To effectively build explosive strength, I pair traditional workouts with plyometric exercises. This helps my muscles learn how to transfer the power built through strength training into real, dynamic movement. For example, if I’m doing bench press, I’ll add a chest-focused plyometric move like explosive push-ups or a shoulder plyo drill. This combo trains my body to activate power quickly and efficiently during sport performance.

What if we could teach computers the smartest way to trade stocks? For my Catalyst project, I explored how code, data, and quantitative strategies can improve investment decisions. I gathered over 20 years of historical data and used algorithmic models to build a portfolio. With guidance from my mentor, I developed a tool that scans hundreds of stocks, evaluates which strategies perform best, and combines them into a single, optimized portfolio. As someone passionate about technology, this project gave me a deeper understanding of machine learning and trading—and I hope it’s just the beginning of a much longer journey.
Moov Wear: Made New
What if fashion could move more than just style?
Moov Wear is a clothing line I launched in tenth grade, sparked by a simple idea: repurpose unwanted clothes into fashion pieces with purpose. It began as a creative collaboration with Dance Devotion, a charity I co-founded with LA Dance Connection to provide free dance lessons for underprivileged children and seniors. As a sophomore, I faced roadblocks—but this project gave me the opportunity to reimagine Moov Wear. Through this class, I’ve built a website, curated a catalog of reinvented clothes, and worked to transform Moov Wear into a true social enterprise—where sustainable fashion meets meaningful impact.
The Calculation of Ballet: Discovering a way to improve myself physically and mentally
How can dance shape the mind as much as the body? Through my journey in dance, I’ve not only enhanced my physical strength and mobility but also developed key aspects of self-regulation, like patience, focus, and mental discipline. Ballet, in particular, requires intense concentration and humility. Learning movements such as a la seconde turns—rotating while holding second position—took me two months of dedicated practice. This technique demands precise muscle control, balance, and mental stamina. Dance has taught me that growth comes not only from movement, but from the mindset behind it.
Ever tried learning a new language and felt completely lost? That was me with Japanese— until I explored different online tools to find what worked best for me. I began with iTalki, hoping real conversations would speed up my learning. But the lack of structure made it hard to stay on track. Switching to Duolingo was a turning point: its interactive, consistent format made daily practice more achievable—and more fun. This journey taught me that language learning isn’t one-sizefits-all. Finding the right platform can make all the difference when building new skills.

Sentenced or Silenced
No one wants to go to prison—but what really happens if they do? I’ve always been interested in law and justice, especially how incarceration impacts people. My topic explores what life is like behind bars and whether prison helps individuals or makes things worse. It’s important to recognize that committing a crime doesn’t always mean someone is a bad person—it can reflect a lack of support both before and during incarceration.
Have you ever wondered how a simple run could build more than just endurance? My video blog explores how beginner-friendly cardio routines can boost not only fitness, but also confidence and motivation. I document my own journey, from brisk walks to speed intervals, while sharing daily reflections and cardio tips that help make movement feel rewarding, not intimidating. With each step, I track changes in stamina, speed, and self-belief. Through consistent practice and honest check-ins, I’ve discovered how cardio can empower anyone to feel stronger, inside and out.

Grow With Nature: Creating Terrariums to improve the quality of life
The realities of nursing can be both inspiring and intense. Compassion, empathy, and critical thinking are essential for thriving in this demanding field. For my Catalyst project, I set out to explore how I could grow both personally and as a future caregiver by blending my passion for nature with the core values of nursing. Through creating terrariums, I discovered a meaningful way to reflect on the deeper qualities this career demands, such as patience, attentiveness, and attention to detail.
Cultural Identity in a Student Kitchen
Have you ever felt connected to a place you’ve never lived? I’m Dutch, but I’ve never lived in the Netherlands—so I never learned to cook the traditional meals tied to my heritage. For my Catalyst project, I set out to reclaim that connection by learning how to make simple, nutritious Dutch recipes and sharing them on TikTok. This journey is about more than food. It’s about balancing tradition with creativity, and discovering how cooking can be a meaningful path to cultural identity. Follow along as I turn my personal story into something flavorful, shareable, and deeply rooted in who I am.
Understanding DKD: Bridging the Gap Between Science and Care
One in every four U.S. healthcare dollars is spent on Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD), its costliest complication. In Singapore, diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, with 25–40% of diabetics developing DKD. Yet many healthcare professionals remain unfamiliar with the underlying biochemistry. Driven by a passion for biomedical science, I’ve been studying how chronic hyperglycemia gradually damages kidney structures, triggering DKD. My goal is to break down this complex progression for both healthcare professionals and affected families. With clearer understanding, we can promote more informed care—and improve outcomes for millions around the world.
What if a 15-second video could capture the passion, struggle, and joy of sports? I explored how storytelling and personal experience can drive connection on social media. Through a TikTok account I created with a friend, I documented my journey learning new sports, coaching others, and interviewing varsity athletes at SAS to share the behind-the-scenes realities of athletic life. By blending humor, reflection, and research into short-form content trends, I discovered what makes videos not just watchable—but meaningful. This project revealed how sports stories, when told with heart, can spark real engagement and community online.
Enabling the audience to see a full-blown story through a single frame is the magic of photo editing in musical photography. I always bring cameras into theatres to capture those moments, however, the raw images lack emotion and are not engaging enough. In this project, through color grading, composition, and analyzing lighting, I explored how to transform flat photographs into dynamic narratives. I designed a photobook with the edited version photos I took for different musicals. Through this journey, I hope to inspire and show people who are also interested in musical photography editing as a storytelling tool.
Migrant worker mistreatment is an issue that has persisted in Singapore for decades. Still, after countless parliament hearings and initiatives, we are far from a solution. While discussions are needed for long term effective change, we also require something that can protect workers right now. My project tackles this issue, specifically the unsafe practice of worker transport in lorries alongside equipment. By learning the engineering software Fusion 360 to design a safety harness which will hold equipment in place in transit, I will be able to improve this unsafe practice and protect the lives of our most essential migrant workers.
Football has always been more than just a game— it’s a universal language that unites people across the world. Through an internship with Borussia Academy Singapore, I’ve worked as a researcher, content creator, and supporter, exploring how media and marketing shape the identity and community of a football club. As someone who has always loved the sport, I wanted to connect that passion with an interest in marketing—specifically how clubs communicate, promote themselves, and foster connections both on and off the pitch. This project allowed me to see football from a new perspective and deepened my appreciation for the power of storytelling in bringing people together.
Land-use Change and Biodiversity Loss: EU’s Renewable Energy Directive and Oil Palm Plantations in Malaysia
“During the AT Environmental Science trip to Tioman, Malaysia, I was struck by the endless hills of oil palm plantations stretching for over 30 minutes of our bus ride. That moment inspired my Catalyst paper: Land-Use Change and Biodiversity Loss: The EU’s Renewable Energy Directive and Oil Palm Plantations in Malaysia. I investigated how the EU’s push for biofuels under the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) has contributed to deforestation and biodiversity loss in Malaysia—highlighting the complex trade-offs between global climate goals and local ecological impacts.”

You don’t need thousands of dollars or special knowledge— just the right advice. Learn how index funds can help you grow generational wealth steadily, starting from scratch.
Flavors of Korea: Exploring Korean Cuisine Through History and Recipe
There’s more to Korean food than flavor—there’s a story. While Korean cuisine is celebrated worldwide for its bold flavors, vibrant colors, and fresh ingredients, the cultural history behind each dish often goes unrecognized. This project explores the traditions, origins, and stories woven into Korean food through a social media channel created for global Korean food lovers. By pairing recipes with the cultural and historical background of each dish, the channel aims to both educate and inspire. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering Korean cuisine, you’re invited to taste, learn, and connect with the heritage behind every bite
