This month SFG Colombo moved to a larger gallery at 41 Horton Place in Colombo 7. The new location features three separate spaces, one in which SFG will run continuous exhibitions starting in January 2014. The second space will feature a second exhibition or new media works by local artists. The third space continues to feature a series of works by artists represented by the gallery. This catalogue presents a few of the new artists who will begin working with us in our new gallery space. We hope to see you soon at the new SFG Colombo.

CHAMILA GAMAGE Chamila Gamage’s sculpture often plays with the combination of both cement and wrought iron. These three works were featured in the artist’s latest solo exhibition titled Monologue II.

MIKA TENNEKOON Mika Tennekoon recently moved to Vietnam and continues to send her work to exhibit at SFG. These are her latest series of black and white drawings and they follow the theme of her ledger works from 2012.

NADIA HAJI OMAR Nadia Haji Omar continues to work on her Masters program at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her work was featured in a group exhibition of Sri Lankan contemporary art at XVA Gallery in Dubai this year. These three works carry the same autobiographical titles and themes as all of Haji Omar’s works.

PRAGEETH MANOHANSA While Prageeth Manohansa is best known for his large scrap metal figurative works, these smaller series of cacti present the flipside to the artist. Manohansa proves he is also able to work on a smaller scale with sensitivity to materials and the same delicate care he places on form and movement in all his work.

PRIYANTHA UDAGEDARA These round canvas works belong to Priyantha Udagedara’s series titled Paradise Lost. Udagedara worked on this series for his practice based Ph.D. at Leeds University in the United Kingdom. The series was also exhibited in Portugal earlier this year.

NUWAN NALAKA Nuwan Nalaka recently returned to Sri Lanka from Calcutta, after completing his Masters Degree. No stranger to the art scene, Nalaka has presented numerous exhibitions of his watercolor landscapes in Sri Lanka. In this series the artist presents a conceptual series inspired by Buddhism and Sri Lankan history.

SANDUN DE SILVA Sandun De Silva is best known for his fashion photography but in 2014 he joins the Saskia Fernando Gallery with a series of landscape and abstract photography that he has collected throughout his career so far. His body of work features wildlife photography, panoramic images of Sri Lankan landscapes and abstract light and colour images.

SUJEEWA KUMARI Sujeewa Kumari will present her new media work at the new Saskia Fernando Gallery in Colombo in January 2014. These drawings are her latest works on paper and they are based on the print work she plans to exhibit in January.

TORIN CHANDRASEKARA Torin Chandrasekara returns with his brass sculpture of early works featuring the minister’s shirt. These highly conceptual and clever depictions of greed, politics and corruption will be presented in an exhibition of sculpture in 2014.

VAJIRA GUNAWARDENA These three works by Vajira Gunwardena take us back to the artist’s affinity to bright colour. His latest work feature collage and stencil work and a heavier thematic playing with history and culture titled ‘The Man Who Wasn’t There’.
