What’s going on in the Counseling Office this week & looking forward to next week.

─ Welcome back Welcome back to another school year! The counseling department is excited and looking forward to what this year brings. We would like to welcome Tammy Richards and Leticia Gomez to the team! Please let us know if you have any concerns or questions about our students or department.

Week of 8/12 to 8/16 Tuesday 8/13: Counselors 9th Grade Presentation during X Hour Counselors will be in the Fine Arts stage 2 with half of the 9th-grade class to introduce the counseling department and what to expect from us this year.

Wednesday 8/14: Counselors 9th Grade Presentation during X Hour Counselors will be in the Fine Arts stage 2 with half of the 9th-grade class to introduce the counseling department and what to expect from us this year.

Wednesday 8/14: 9th Grade Parent Night in Fine Arts 6pm Counselors will be in the Fine Arts stage 2 with freshmen parents to introduce the counseling department and what to expect from us this year.

Coming up week of 8/19 to 8/23 Wednesday 8/21: Counselors 12th Grade Presentation during X Hour Counselors will be in the Fine Arts stage 2 with the senior class to review important info for senior year, college prep, and what to expect from counseling this year.

Wednesday 8/21: 12th Grade Parent Night in Fine Arts 6pm Counselors will be in the Fine Arts stage 2 with Senior parents to review important info for senior year, college prep, and what to expect from counseling this year.

Scheduling Appointments Counselors are using an online calendar to sign students up for counseling appointments.

You also may use this for appointments or meetings to be scheduled with the counselor by clicking on the links below for the corresponding counselor. They're also at the bottom of our email signature.

Passes Students may present you with their iPads showing their appointment. It will be an email or on their calendar. Please allow students to come to the counseling office at their scheduled time. Chromebook pass (see example--->).

When we are done with a student, we will send you an email or Google chat that they are leaving and heading back to class.

Please check this.

Students are responsible to show up when they are scheduled. Teachers reserve the right to keep the students in class if they need to keep them. Please let us know if this is the case or if a student is absent so we can reschedule them. We do not have a lot of flexibility with all study halls being during X hour so please do your best to work with us regarding pulling students from your class. Thank you!

Accommodations Accommodations are handled by Nick Madrid. Counselors are here to support students on accommodations, but questions or concerns regarding accommodations should be primarily referred to Nick and copied to the student’s counselor.

A message from Nick, Director of SOAR : “For a student to qualify for an accommodation plan here at SPX, we need to have paperwork of a documented learning disability on file for that student. Those can be emailed or delivered to us in person. Initial accommodation plan meetings will be scheduled soon, and notifications will also start going out to teachers of existing/continued accommodation plans. We ask that families be patient as we get the year started as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Thank you.”
