As we bid farewell to the Class of 2024, we are sending off into the world a very special group of young men and women. They started as freshmen, and COVID forced them to be in online classes, only knowing new classmates as images on the screen. When they first returned to in-person learning, St. Pius X was still under the shadow of the archdiocesan bankruptcy, and the future was uncertain. However, as with all great people, they learned to adapt, overcome, and find joy in one another. Not until juniors were things in order, but by then, they learned to be hopefully resilient. It is this strong class who now will lead us forward as they begin to take on new roles in college and careers.
It is an opportune time for such a group to be in this position. Recently, Archbishop Wester announced the plan for the Rebuild My Church campaign, an ambitious effort for all of us as the church to return to our roots to rebuild our ministries and to support our brothers and sisters most in need. What we went through as a school, and what the Class of 2024 experienced goes hand in hand with the Archbishop’s call to rebuild.
Our strategic plan is a plan to rebuild. Our faith formation agenda will prepare our students to see their God-given gifts as part of their vocation to use their strengths to build a stronger church, a better nation, and healthy families. Our service program will directly connect our students to minister to our neediest sisters and brothers. Our community outreach will access the time, treasure, and talents of our parents, alumni, and community supporters to help mentor and support our students as they pursue their dreams. Finally, our academic program will help make us more innovative to prepare our students to be leaders in their fields and stronger students. We built this plan based on the experience of the Class of 2024, and we saw what is possible through them.
As alumni, parents, and community supporters, we call on you to help us in this distinguished mission. Please continue to pray for our school, support us in our rebuilding, and know that what you give us will allow us to continue to produce the heroes who graduated this year. Follow the Class of 2024 into the future and help us Rebuild Our Church and make St. Pius X School a beacon of hope for future generations of Sartans.
As I reflect on the transformative impact of my inaugural year here at St. Pius X, I am reminded of the vital role philanthropy plays in shaping the vibrant tapestry of opportunities that define the St. Pius X student experience. Whether through tuition assistance that makes a Catholic education accessible to all our families, innovative programs and caring faculty and coaches who ignite curiosity and creativity, or updated facilities that serve current students and attract new Sartans, every aspect of our St. Pius X mission is made possible through the collective contributions of our donors and volunteers.
The nearly $2 million contributed to the 2024-2025 Annual Fund and endowments is a great predictor of our future stability and innovation. This year’s fundraising campaign reflects positively on the reputation of St. Pius X within the greater Albuquerque community. We are feeling the momentum of the addition of sixth and seventh grades, an expressed confidence in school leadership, and the excitement around our vision, as shared in our Strategic Plan which is included in this issue.
Shared on the facing page are just some of the ways the Annual Fund is supporting our students.
Nestled in the University of New Mexico Library Digital Collections is an issue of Albuquerque Progress, Business News of Our City and Vicinity, dated October 1952, featuring the new campus of The College of St. Joseph on the Rio Grande which had been built in 1951. Among the many photos of the campus include one which is simply labeled “temporary chapel” with a low ceiling and pews.
The College of St. Joseph on the Rio Grande, later named the University of Albuquerque, never found a place for the permanent chapel. Located in these same buildings on the same beautiful location on the bluff overlooking Albuquerque, I am happy to report that St. Pius X School has found the location for our permanent chapel. This was made possible by our clear ownership of our property and the creative use of some of the space in Lourdes Hall.
The chapel will be in the space previously occupied by our library. It has soaring ceilings and enough room for our weekly middle school Mass on Monday afternoons. It has natural light from the tall windows which, God willing, will be stained glass in the future. We will incorporate a sound system and a video system and live-streaming capability which will allow us to connect with alumni near and far.
The weekly high school Mass on Monday mornings will remain in the gym due to our increasing enrollment. The new library location is in Lourdes Hall. Thanks to the generous donors to our chapel project over the years, we hope to open the chapel in time for the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year. If you would like to support this project, please contact our Vice President of Institutional Advancement Julie Cook at julie.cook@spxabq.org or 505-831-8423.

In June 2023, the Board of Trustees at St. Pius X High School Inc. engaged the services of the Leadership Roundtable. This organization is dedicated to supporting the Church by offering best practices and consultancy services to aid dioceses, parishes, seminaries, religious communities, schools, and nonprofit organizations nationwide. A strategic planning committee was subsequently formed to craft a strategic plan spanning 2023 to 2026. This committee comprises representatives from various facets of our school community, including alumni, parents, board leadership, clergy, faculty, and administration.
Lisa Metcalfe, the Director of Services and Programs at Leadership Roundtable, played a pivotal role in guiding the process of formulating strategic goals and objectives.

In 2024, St. Pius X reached a pivotal moment in its history. Just one year after our beloved SPX was “SAVED,” we have expanded to include eighth grade and will welcome the addition of sixth and seventh in the upcoming Fall. As we are paving the way for the future of St. Pius X School, our humble beginnings are not forgotten.
Sartans, get ready for the unveiling of the St. Pius X Alumni Plaza! Spanning across 2 acres, nestled between the school cafeteria and Stage 1 of St. Cecilia Hall, this vibrant space boasts a lush green area, shaded by trees, intersected with inviting sidewalks and encircled by walking paths. Complementing these features are integrated seating and an inviting brick dining area, enhancing its charm.
Alumni, SPX family members, and friends now have the opportunity to personalize a brick that will find a prominent place within this plaza. Whether for casual gatherings or special events, the Alumni Plaza promises to be the heart of activity for our students, while also being available for alumni reunions. Despite facing challenges due to the departure of over half of its potential team members, the SPX Academic Decathlon team rallied in the 2023/2024 season. With a small core of three dedicated seniors and three rookies, they upheld our school’s strong tradition, even after consistently placing in the Top Three at the National Finals for three consecutive years.
Hard work and team bonding paid off. Although a full Academic Decathlon team has nine students, Saint Pius X fielded a team with a minimum of six this year. At the end of February, they won our school’s 23rd State Championship, earning the right to represent New Mexico at the National Finals in Pittsburg, PA. Although the Sartans could not field a full roster, St. Pius X took 5th Place in Division III and won 12 individual medals.
The core of the 2023-2024 Sartan Team was composed of three veteran members; Chidike Anozie (12), Adam Vigil (12), and Jonathan Constable (12), who had nationally competed and medaled in previous years. The other three members; Santos Barela (11), Jonathan Cappon (11), and Andrew Baldonado (11), were new faces who added their skills to the team.
Established to develop well-rounded individuals with strong leadership qualities, The United States Academic Decathlon Competition prepares students in the ten subject areas of art, music, literature, history, economics, math, science, essay writing, speech, and personal interview. Teams can consist of up to nine students, three each from high, medium, and lower GPA categories. This year’s topic of Technology and Humanity was timely. Art focused on innovations throughout history, and music featured scores of science fiction movies over the last 90 years. The Literature category consisted of the novel The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin and several short stories featuring humanity and robots. The History section covered the development of computing machines and the internet; the Science category centered on the human nervous system and the brain; the Economics category covered all major topics of macro- and micro-economics including a special section relating to the effect of technology on economics.
This is the 32nd year Saint Pius X has competed in the United States Academic Decathlon. James Penn, mathematics and science teacher at SPX, started the program in the 1991-1992 school year. Numerous highly competitive teams in New Mexico in the 1990s and early 2000s made winning a State Championship quite difficult. Still, Saint Pius X kept moving up the ladder and eventually won its first State Championship in 1998. Since then, Saint Pius X has collected 23 State Championships, often among the top six in Division II or III at the National Finals, including five Top Three Team Trophies and National Banners.
“We could always use a few more students for next year to field a complete, competitive team,” Mr. Penn stated. “You don’t have to be a genius or a perfect straight-A student to join or do well.”
Congratulations to every team member! Thank you for making this school year a successful and memorable one!

Sixty years after the first play was performed at St. Pius X, the SPX Drama program presented “Our Town” this spring. Coincidently, “Our Town” was the very first play ever performed at SPX, back when Director/Drama and English Teacher, Mr. Stephen Armijo’s (’07) mother, Mary Hiland, ‘64 was a student. The play is known for its anti-spectacle nature, with a bare set, simple costumes, and plain language. Stripping away the glitz and glamour of the theater allowed the focus to be on the story and the performances.
The SPX thespians skillfully painted an invisible world that felt more real than any elaborate Broadway set. Throughout the show, audiences fell in love with the world of Grover’s Corners; they rooted for George and Emily as they fell in love, sympathized with their parents as they faced the empty nest, pitied Sam Stinson, the town drunk, and wept at the play’s beautiful and tragic conclusion. Featuring some of the best performances to grace the Jim Morley Theatre, “Our Town” was another triumph for the SPX Drama Department.
Among the standout winners in the juried selection were Savannah Dowling (12), Brianna Lucero-Brown (12), Desirey Ortiz (12), Julianna Solis (12), Breyen Strahle (12), Peyton Underwood (12), Jesica Castro (11), Evangelynn Cruz (11), with three entries, Lena Hernandez (11), with three entries, Annaliesse Nunez (11), Elena Valencia (11), Musal Hussaini (10), Audrey Phelps (10), Julianna Gallegos (9), Eleni Andritsos (8), Grace Grady (8), Alyiah Gonzales (8), Gabriella Lenz (8) and Lance Yarbrough (8).
Each of these talented Sartans contributes to the SPX art community, demonstrating SPX’s commitment to developing artistic excellence.
Twenty talented art students from St. Pius X were recognized in the prestigious NM Scholastic Art Competition, showcasing their artistic talents on a regional platform. The NM Scholastic Competition is a showcase of artistic excellence for middle and high school students across New Mexico and El Paso, Texas, attracting thousands of entries from aspiring artists annually. Out of this vast range of talent, only a few hundred works of several thousand are chosen for the Scholastic Exhibit. Thanks to SPX Art Teacher, Mr. Robert Willits, SPX students had a remarkable showing once again.
Among the standout winners in the juried selection were Savannah Dowling (12), Brianna Lucero-Brown (12), Desirey Ortiz (12), Julianna Solis (12), Breyen Strahle (12), Peyton Underwood (12), Jesica Castro (11), Evangelynn Cruz (11), with three entries, Lena Hernandez (11), with three entries, Annaliesse Nunez (11), Elena Valencia (11), Musal Hussaini (10), Audrey Phelps (10), Julianna Gallegos (9), Eleni Andritsos (8), Grace Grady (8), Alyiah Gonzales (8), Gabriella Lenz (8) and Lance Yarbrough (8).

On the Wednesday of Holy Week, the Class of 2025 began their Junior Retreat with Mass, setting the tone for a day dedicated to service and community. Students put their faith into action by engaging in various activities aimed at enhancing their campus and extending a helping hand to those in need.
The highlight of the retreat was a campus cleanup initiative, where students took pride in beautifying our surroundings. From clearing trash and broken branches to clearing tumbleweeds along the campus perimeter near the Oxbow neighborhood, the students demonstrated their Sartan pride.
Other members of the class boxed up library books for relocation, making space for the new campus chapel, and assisted the eighth grade class in their packing day. Beyond campus-focused endeavors, students dedicated their time to serving the broader community by volunteering in different activities through our partnerships with Catholic Charities.
This inaugural Junior Service Retreat Day at St. Pius X marks the beginning of a journey of meaningful engagement and impactful service for the Class of 2025, setting the standard of spiritual growth for our uprising seniors and setting the precedent for future classes of Sartans.
In its 16th year, the Making a Difference Against Hunger (MADAH) Club at St. Pius X organized its much-anticipated annual Packing Day service project. Sartans from the Junior and Eighth Grade Classes collaborated in the spirit of unity and service, coinciding with Holy Week.
The collective effort resulted in the assembly of an impressive 56,960 meals distributed among local families facing food uncertainty. The partnership with Catholic Charities and St. Felix Pantry ensures that these meals reach those who need them the most, aligning with the club’s mission of alleviating hunger and fostering community support.
St. Pius X recently celebrated a milestone with its first-ever All-School, All-Star Jeopardy event, marking the culmination of years spent integrating Jeopardy! into classroom learning. This game, featuring a mix of academic and popular categories, has long been a hit among students of Mr. Penn’s, encouraging them to showcase their knowledge across various subjects.
Originally planned for the 2018-2019 school year, the event was postponed due to the rapid spread of COVID-19. With restrictions easing in subsequent years, the idea resurfaced as a potential large-scale activity to engage students. James Penn and Emily Dieterichs spearheaded the initiative, supported by the school administration.
The event was structured to include representatives from each grade level, selected by Mr. Penn based on their performance in classroom Jeopardy! games. Invitations were extended to top players, resulting in enthusiastic participation from students across the board. Faculty members also joined in, forming a dedicated team for the occasion.
Concerns about student conduct during the event were quickly dispelled as the audience displayed exemplary behavior, cheering for their teams while maintaining decorum during questions. The atmosphere was lively yet respectful, showcasing the students’ sportsmanship and enthusiasm for intellectual competition.
Feedback following the event was overwhelmingly positive, with students, faculty, and staff alike praising the format and execution. Many expressed interest in participating in future editions, highlighting the event’s success in fostering a sense of camaraderie and excitement comparable to traditional athletic events.
The All-School, All-Star Jeopardy! event provided a venue for academic talent and highlighted the value of intellectual engagement and teamwork. Congratulations to the Class of 2024 for their narrow win against SPX faculty and staff. Sartans, you have big shoes to fill!

Boys Varsity Basketball concluded their season with an impressive record of 19-12, marking a series of victories and remarkable achievements.
The Sartans began their rise to success early in the season with an impressive second-place finish at the prestigious Hope Christian Tournament, solidifying their presence among top-tier teams in the state.
After a tie for first against Highland in district play, the Sartans took second in a district playoff game played solely for seeding purposes and were the only team in the district to beat the rival Hornets. Their triumph set the stage for entering the State Tournament as the 5th seed, and the Sartans were ready to play.
In the first round of the State Tournament, the Sartans defeated Shiprock and faced off against the defending State Champions, the Albuquerque Academy Chargers, clinching the win in the quarterfinals. Although their journey in the State Tournament ended in the semifinals against the Highland Hornets, it was a hard-fought game ending in the final seconds.

The St. Pius X Girls Basketball Team achieved nearly every goal they set for themselves in the 23/24 season. Their journey was not just about wins and losses but about the determination that fueled their success. At the center of that success is an exceptional coaching staff and a group of dedicated young student-athletes.
One of the highlights of the season was clinching the District Championship title, a testament to the hard work and unity of the team, securing the #2 seed heading into the State Tournament. The Lady Sartans defeated Bloomfield in the quarterfinals and Artesia in the semifinals with determination and resilience. While they fell short in the championship game against Kirtland Central, their journey to the final was proof of their determination.
The Sartans’ performance also earned them recognition on a statewide level, securing the impressive #7 ranking overall in New Mexico.
Looking ahead, the team is excited about the prospects of another summer of hard work and growth. Their eyes are set on the future and meeting their final goal of bringing home the blue trophy.
The St. Pius X Sartan Wrestling Program celebrated an outstanding 2023/2024 season! Demonstrating notable progress, the Sartans secured impressive standings, clinching 3rd place at the Hiroshi Memorial Duals, 3rd place at the Sartan Scuffle, and 2nd place in District Duals. Additionally, the Sartans proudly emerged as the Runner-Up Team Champion at this year’s NMAA 2-4A Regional State Qualifier. The boys and girls showcased their strength by qualifying one of the largest 4A teams in the state, with 9 boys and 4 girls, bringing home seven individual placements and one state champion.

The 2024 baseball season began with a revitalized coaching staff, led by returning coach Jim Stebbins. The team featured a diverse roster, including twelve seniors, four juniors, three sophomores, and one freshman. The Sartans kicked off the season strong with a 3-1 record and went on to dominate the Annual Andres Arguello Tournament, hosted by St. Pius X. They scored an impressive 33 runs while only conceding 6, finishing the tournament undefeated at 4-0.
Throughout the season, the Sartans faced tough 5A competition, including a notable match against the State Champions, La Cueva Bears. Their resilience and skill earned them fifth place in the APS Metro Tournament. As the State Tournament approached, the Sartans secured the #4 seed and faced off against the #13 Chaparral Lobos. The Sartans triumphed in the first two games of the threegame series, advancing to the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, they fell short against the Artesia Bulldogs.
Despite not finishing the season as hoped, these young men gained valuable lessons in baseball and life, showcasing their determination and growth throughout the year.

The 2024 season was a significant year for the St. Pius X Softball Team. For the first time since 2007, the program was able to field a JV team, which had great success, finishing their first season with a 7-2 record. The Varsity team also had an outstanding season, finishing 19-7 overall and 7-1 in district play, securing their fourth straight district championship. Their district success earned them the #4 seed in the State Tournament, solidifying their status as one of the top contenders in class 4A.
In the State Tournament, the Lady Sartans had a remarkable run. Despite an initial loss to Artesia, they fought back to beat Belen in extra innings and advanced to face Aztec in the semifinals. Though they couldn’t overcome the Fighting Tigers’ early lead, their grit, determination, and passion for the game were evident. While they did not win the state title, the Lady Sartans proved they are a force to be reckoned with and will return next season with their sights set on bringing home the blue trophy.

Their enthusiasm and dedication have set the stage for an even more successful season next year, as they aim to achieve even greater accomplishments on the tennis courts.

During a season plagued with injuries, the St. Pius X Rugby Team displayed remarkable resilience and athleticism. The Sartans finished the regular season with a 4-6-2 record and made it to the semifinal match of the State Tournament, which took place at Ben Rios Field at St. Pius X. Despite their efforts, the Sartans lost to top-seeded Rio Rancho. The team then competed against Los Alamos in the third place match but fell short despite a previous win earlier in the season.
This season also witnessed the launch of a U16 team, comprised of talented eighth and ninth-graders. Building on this success, the club plans to continue with both a U19 team (comprised of senior, junior, and sophomore players) and a U16 team (comprised of 8th and 9th graders) next year. Additionally, they will introduce a U14 team (comprised of 6th and 7th graders) and a ladies’ team, enhancing the diversity and inclusivity of the SPX Rugby Program.
Congratulations to the following SPX players who have been invited to play with the NM Select Desert Warriors team in Denver, CO this summer: Leon Sutulov (12), Noah Tsethlikai (12), TJ Maldonado (10), Daegan Marsh (10), Kolbe Padilla (10), and Tony Ruiz (10).

The 2024 season was an exciting one for Sartan Water Polo. Both teams had outstanding performances, dominating the regular season with just one loss each. St. Pius X Alumna, Presley Olguin ’23, joined the coaching staff and played a pivotal role in the team’s success throughout the season. The Lady Sartans, led by SPX starters Ava Marie Machtinger (11), Sam Olguin (11), and Dani Madrid (10), fought their way to an exhilarating shoot-out victory. Remarkably, our young Lady Sartan team has no seniors and is well-positioned for a repeat next year. All-State Goalie Dominic Martinez (11) led the Sartans to a strong second place finish at the State Championship tournament. Notable performances from freshman starters Griffin Wells and Branson Whitson, combined with Isaiah Martinez’s (11) contributions on defense, showcased the team’s talent and determination throughout the season.

This season was marked by a notably large team, bolstered by the addition of more Sartan football players than ever before. This combination proved successful, as the boys secured their fourth consecutive district title. They consistently broke the school records in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays, finishing in fourth place in both events at the State Meet. Bryan Thomas (11) stood out as the high point athlete at the District Championships and was named District Track & Field Athlete of the Year. He won the 200m and 400m, placed second in the 100m, and third in the long jump, and was a member of the victorious 4x100 relay team. Thomas later broke the school record in the 200m at the State Meet. Coach Jeff Turcotte was honored as the District Boys Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive year.
At the State Meet, the boys placed sixth, the best finish in recent years, highlighted with four relays placing. All was done with no state points scored by seniors, so everyone returns next spring!

The girls’ team, though smaller in numbers, also achieved significant success. They finished the season as District Runner-Up, thanks to the exceptional efforts of many young athletes, including eighth graders and freshmen who stepped up to place in various events at the district meet. At the State Meet, Savannah Ellison (11) and Gianna Archuleta (9) both scored in the 400m. With such a young team, and no seniors scoring at state this spring, the future looks bright for the Lady Sartans next year.
I am a dedicated educator and youth ministry leader with a diverse background in education and spiritual guidance. My educational journey began when I graduated from Roswell High School in 1992, marking the start of my lifelong commitment to learning and service.
I pursued higher education at the College of Santa Fe, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2007. This foundational experience laid the groundwork for my career in education and ministry, equipping me with essential knowledge and skills.
In 2015, I furthered my academic achievements by obtaining a Master’s in Education Administration from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. This advanced degree enhanced my capacity to lead and support educational initiatives effectively.
With a Level III Pre K-12 Education Administration Certification, I have dedicated sixteen years to the field of education. My journey includes seven years as a teacher, where I had the privilege of shaping young minds directly. Subsequently, I served as a Principal for eight years, overseeing school operations and fostering a positive learning environment. Additionally, I spent one year as a Middle School Advisor, providing mentorship and guidance to students during a critical stage of their academic journey.
My passion for youth ministry spans thirty four years, focusing on Confirmation and Parish Youth Group activities. This aspect of my work allowed me to nurture young individuals spiritually, fostering their growth and connection to their faith communities. Prior to joining St. Pius X, I dedicated fifteen years to serving in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe School District, where I honed my skills and contributed significantly to the educational and spiritual development of students.
I am excited to bring my wealth of experience and dedication to St. Pius X, where I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on students’ lives and spiritual growth.
It is an honor to be part of the St. Pius Community. I am excited for the next school year and blessed to continue the work of Christ, by nurturing HIS children to embrace Jesus and live up to their God-given abilities.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
I am an alumna of St. Pius X High School, class of 1996. Upon graduation, I furthered my educational pursuits at Benedictine College, receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Spanish in 2000. Demonstrating my commitment to educational advancement and leadership, I obtained my Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Creighton University in 2018.
Possessing a rich history with Catholic education, I have dedicated nearly two decades to the field, profoundly impacting student advancement and school administration. For twelve years, I was able to exude passion and proficiency in my role as Vice Principal and Elementary Educator at Annunciation Catholic School.
In my impending role as the Director of Student Support at St. Pius X School, I hope to bring my administrative experience and fervent dedication to student development. My approach is aimed at unlocking the full potential of every student, instilling in them a lifelong love for learning and devotion to Jesus Christ as an example for their lives.
I am happily married and a mother to six beautiful children, two of them proudly carrying the legacy of St. Pius X Sartans. I cherish family time spent reading, dancing, traveling, and exploring the great outdoors.
I am committed to cultivating a learning atmosphere where passion for learning and the spirit of Jesus Christ enrich each student’s educational experience – every single day. I believe that serving as an educational leader is not just a privilege but one of the most rewarding roles in the world.
“Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, as indeed you do.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
I am a dedicated educator and coach with a rich background in academics and athletics. My journey in education began when I graduated from Taos High School in 1995, setting the foundation for my lifelong passion for learning and teaching.
I furthered my academic pursuits by earning a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Mexico in 2000. This solid educational background laid the groundwork for my career in teaching and leadership within the education sector.
In 2009, I achieved a significant milestone by completing my Master’s in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University. This advanced degree prepared me with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in educational administrative roles.
With a Level III Teacher certification and endorsements in Physical Education, Health, and Middle School Math spanning grades K-12, I have been able to make a positive impact on students’ academic and physical development throughout my twenty four years in education. This journey includes twelve years of dedicated teaching and another twelve years serving as a Dean of Students, where I focused on fostering a positive school culture and supporting student success.
My coaching experience is extensive, covering twenty eight years across a range of sports including football, basketball, wrestling, track, softball, and cheer, where I specialized in strength and conditioning. This coaching background has allowed me to instill values of teamwork, discipline, and resilience in countless student-athletes over the years.
I have had the privilege of working in both the Taos Municipal School District for ten years and the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) for thirteen years before joining St. Pius X for the current academic year.
I am excited to bring my wealth of experience and passion for education and athletics to the St. Pius X community.
“Iron sharpens iron as humans sharpen humans. I am my brother’s keeper and family takes care of family!”
I am a proud 2013 graduate of Eldorado High School and valued the opportunity to play football at Eastern New Mexico University on scholarship. The experience was rewarding, shaping my understanding of teamwork and dedication.
Following my college experience, I returned to Eldorado High School as an Educational Assistant, where I have dedicated the past five years of my career. For the first three years, I focused on working closely with students facing severe Autism and challenges with non-verbal communication. This role allowed me to develop a deep understanding of individualized support and communication strategies tailored to each student’s unique needs.
In the last two years, I took on a new role as the lead supporter of the Wellness Room at Eldorado. This initiative, driven by the students themselves, provides a safe and empowering space for them to learn self-advocacy and regulation techniques. The Wellness Room has become an integral part of our school community, helping students navigate challenges and return to the classroom with renewed focus and confidence.
Outside of my role as an Educational Assistant, I have been actively involved in coaching various sports at Eldorado for the past six years. My coaching journey has spanned football, wrestling, and track, allowing me to contribute to the growth and development of student-athletes both on and off the field.
This past fall, I decided to transition to coaching football here at St. Pius X, embarking on a new chapter of mentorship and leadership within a different school community. I am excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on the lives of students through education and athletics.
“A new beginning is on the horizon and I’m excited to help build a new future for St. Pius X.”
In its second year, the SPX Athletic Booster Club hosted the Sartan Swing at Albuquerque TopGolf which raised nearly $15,000, benefiting Sartan Athletics. The event kicked off with a prayer led by Fr. John Trambley, setting the tone for a day of teamwork and spirited competition in true Sartan fashion. The tournament featured favorite Sartan traditions like the Hit by an SPX Golfer and the Marshmallow Chip, adding spirited fun to the festivities. Among the highlights were the crowning of Kent Jones and Camillia Garcia Sanchez ‘85 as the “Topgolfers” of the day. Quality by DiLorenzo made an impressive comeback, clinching the 1st Place title after securing 2nd Place last year. Kent Jones also walked away with the coveted prize of a fire pit, courtesy of his expertise at the Marshmallow Chip challenge.
A special note of gratitude goes out to our event sponsors, dedicated topgolfers, and the SPX Golf Team whose enthusiastic participation made the Sartan Swing a memorable event once again.
