EDITOR’S MESSAGE With immense pleasure I am once again back to present you the second issue of official newsletter “ADD COLOR TO LIFE” of TKS Toastmasters.

This is my editorial message for the prestigious club TKS TOASTMASTERS. Some time back, I used to keep myself away from social media, but now I have an account in Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and Instagram with thousands of Toastmasters in my friends list and hundreds of posts which are very useful in knowledge sharing. Learnt how to deal with social media and its importance in today's world is pretty huge. The first newsletter was made of 32 pages and has the history of TKS TOASTMASTERS for the reference.

This is the second newsletter.

The goal of this newsletter is to provide Toastmasters a complete report of the year 2018-2019.

This year we have accomplished many achievements in our club starting with the celebrations of milestones. Treasure Hunt, 9th Anniversary of TKS Toastmasters, Club Contest, Celebrating 200th Meeting With Family Party and also Participating and Winning At Area 2 Level In Evaluation.

Today we are going to celebrate our Club Installation Ceremony of New EXCOM for this year 2019-2020.

This edition is specially designed with colors of toastmasters & their branding guidelines.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank you all who have contributed to the successful release of the newsletter.

On a personal note, I thank TM Vandana, who helped me consistently in preparing & releasing this newsletter.

About TKS TOASTMASTERS The official foundation of TKS Toastmasters Club was laid in October 2009 with an overwhelming no. of 33 chartered members which has till date been a record number to start any new club in Bahrain. It had been done under the patronage of past EXCOM & Ex-President of TKS President DTM Raghunadha Babu. Our club sponsors include DTM Joel Indrupati, DTM Yugandar and The Club mentors include DTM PB Dinesh TM Madam Rashida.

MESSAGE FROM AREA 2 DIRECTOR Dear members of TKS TM club! Good day to you all.

At the outset I would like to congratulate outgoing Executive committee for their dynamic contribution in achieving 10 out of 10 DCP points well ahead under dynamic leadership of TM Raman. This shows commitment, dedication and true leadership of our proud TKS TM executive committee members. Thanks a lot for keeping up the legacy brought forward by many great leaders and members of TKS TMC. Of course it would not have been possible without firm cooperation and participation of TKS TMC members.

I am very much fortunate for being chartered member of TKS TMC. Also I am fortunate for getting an opportunity to serve as Area-2 Director for the term 2018-19. Thanks a lot to TKS TM club being part of Area-2 supported me so wonderfully in fulfilling my responsibilities as Area-2 Director.

By being toastmasters we are adding colour to our life in terms of better communication and leadership skills. I strongly believe that any club’s growth mainly depends on its membership. It is every member’s responsibility to increase membership strength. Hence I always say Each one Bring one. By doing so we can add colour to others life too. It is easier for each of us to motivate one who is our near and dear than one to motivate many. It is not only bringing members it is all about sustaining. Hence my dear FTMs let us add colour to our TKS TM club there by to the lives of our fellow members who ultimately make this world more colourful to live and enjoy.

On this milestone meeting of Installation ceremony I wish all the best for TKS TM incoming executive committee under leadership of TM Vandana for the term 2019-20. I am sure that our TKS TMC flag fly high and high in the years to come.

MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT I

am honored to serve as President of the TKS Toastmasters club for the year 2018-2019. With my team of officers, I am pleased to have served my club and its members in the journey of success and overcome personal challenges to enjoy a successful life.

It is a moment of pride, our club since its inception in October 2009 has been recognized in District 20 for members’ accomplishments, and for serving other toastmasters clubs and the community. With confidence, I say there is always a room in our meeting to improve in a friendly fun environment. We welcome guests to visit our meetings to experience the fun filled environment.

TKS Toastmasters is a President Distinguished Club since seven years and have continued to keep up the legacy this year as well. We all may have dreams that needs to be conquered and we need to keep our dreams alive to achieve our goals of improving communication, leadership skills and personal growth in life. We can keep our dreams alive by doing the followings: 1.

MESSAGE FROM VP EDUCATION The goal is not to be better than any one else but rather be better than you were yesterday-Quoted by John Gordon.

In life we always have to challenge ourselves to become a better version of oneself .

Life is full of opportunities that seem to look like problems. Today’s world demands problem-solving skills. And solutions for most of the problems can be found in the new version of Toastmasters International, the Pathways. It helped me in performing my duties as VP Education for the year 2018-2019.

It all began with an intuition of learning something new . Lucky enough to meet my mentor DTM Muralidhar Kommajosula who was a member of more than 3 clubs at that time in Bahrain. He knew the right place for me and introduced me to TKS Toastmasters in the year 2012. There, I felt the enthusiasm, I experienced the energy, the excitement, the positive supportive learning environment, and watched the sparkling gem speakers. Attending toastmasters meetings became my hobby. Then I found out that all the members were supporting each other by giving positive points about your speech and two or three points to improve in the future. No pressure, no negative approach. Only positivity everywhere.

The four hours that I spend in meetings, become a catalyst for the whole month.

Enjoyed all the different challenges be it participating in Bahrain Annual Toastmasters Contest or being a Chairperson for the Area Contest, the level of learning was never less.

It helped me not only at work place but also at home too.

In conclusion, with the help of Toastmasters International which was founded by Dr. Ralph C Smedley, I could become better, in turn the society. TKS Toasmasters doors are always open.

MESSAGE FROM VP MEMBERSHIP When you are a leader, your skills are not confined only to the boardroom or the official environment. This acquired quality goes into your blood and you will be transformed into an amazing personality that everybody around you- be it in the office, boardroom and home will look forward for your leadership and guidance.

That is why we call the Toastmasters is for leadership and communication skills development and to provide networking opportunities for its members.

It was in the year 2011 that I joined the Toastmasters Movement by joining the Telugu Kalasamiti Toastmasters Club. The first 6 years as a Toastmaster were of no great significance, but I did enjoy the movement. But in the year 2017, I participated in the area contest which gave me a total different perception about the movement.

We at TKS toastmasters can truly be proud of our achievements, in that, in our term (2018-19), we were awarded the President Distinguished Club status, Smedley award and also the Talk Up Toastmasters Award by Toastmasters International USA. I wish our club will soon produce the District Champion so that he or she will be in the Olympics of public speaking.

MESSAGE FROM TREASURER Hi Toastmasters You know the fear of public speaking is defined as Glossophobia or Speaking anxiety and the aspect of speaking publicly whether it is in front of a group of unknown people or a close group of friends, is what triggers the anxiety for the speaker.

The average person ranks it higher than the fear of death. The truth is, this fear could be hurting your professional and personal life.

You feel nervous, your palms sweat, and your stomach ties itself into knots. You don’t want to do it. You know, even Warren Buffett Had Public Speaking Anxiety at First.

Toastmaster is one of the best platforms to get rid of this speaking anxiety and many people have said this before and set themselves as example.

I am an outspoken person from my childhood. I like to be in the center of attraction in public gatherings. Believe it or not, during my first icebreaker I felt fluttery and quivering. It is not that easy the way I thought, to speak in a group where everyone is beholding at me with anxious expectations. On top of that I will be judged. That moment I had a real feeling of butterflies in my stomach. But, once I overcame that initial fear, my speech flowed like a stream of river and I haven’t looked back. It is just like kick starting a bike.

In business, it is essentially important for you to be able to get your point across. It is most likely that all of us will one day have to speak in public. Whether we are giving a formal presentation to an audience, or simply asking our boss for a promotion, speaking skills are essential to getting ahead in a professional setting.

The fear of public speaking is very real. However, there are techniques to help you overcome your fears. There are even ways to help harness your energy in a positive way. Toastmaster will help you to reduce the fear of public speaking to a greater extent, if not to manageable level and make you an exemplary leader.

Finally on a personal note, it has been a wonderful journey for the past two years with the club and I really enjoyed my association with you all. I have learned a lot during this period and gained real good experience. You’ve been so supportive and encouraging whenever the club needed.

MESSAGE FROM SENIOR TOASTMASTERS Often, we see ourselves in two types of situations 1. Situation 1 : I'm busy, I'm just trying to keep my head above water. I've got too much on my plate.

2. Situation 2: I am doing my work, reading books, watching tv, but I am not totally into what I am doing, “Ecchh. I’m bored.”

Days turn into weeks; weeks turn into months and months turn into years and one day you start feeling life isn’t fun anymore, everything looks shades of grey and then you realize Oops, what I have I done with my life ………………….

Well the good news, it’s not too late Get your life back from the shades of grey.

Add colour to your life….

Try new places, coffee shops, shopping malls anything Take a Spontaneous trip within your city or outside Go and watch a movie

While above mentioned ones are some ways of doing it… I learned over past few years that adding colour to your life may not always mean to do something for yourself Few years ago, on a Sunday afternoon, I was buried in my work and felt a tap on my shoulder, I came into this world. It was my friend. She came asking for some help. I did not pay attention to her worried look or what she was narrating. My mind was preoccupied with the deadline in front of me. Only thing I understood was, she was collecting donation to help someone. So, paid her some 10 BD so she would leave and again got back to my work. Few days later, she sent me a copy of the amount deposited, receipts of Hospital bills and the picture of the person with a big smile of gratitude.

I understood from my friend…….

Humour is not your cup!

Humor is part and parcel of your life. You will find it around you at all times. All you need is to have any eye to find. Today, I make an attempt to pen down some ideas on how to write a humorous speech and deliver it too. It is like you have the cake and you can eat it too. Let’s get started… the most important thing you need is “a pencil, a sharper, an eraser and a paper”. You need them to write down your ideas. Look around and imagine the funny incidents that could happen and you should be the part of it.

Once you find an idea, then you keep developing on the same idea with small stories with an unexpected twist. Make sure you pick a topic that suit your audience.

Important points to remember: a) include one liners. (Love is blind and marriage is an eye opener) b) Avoid explaining, instead narrate the story using descriptive words. c) Make sure you insert the characters that are known to the audience. If you have to use an alien (a person or animal) describe him or her in a funny way! Give him a name. This way you can connect to the audience vey easily and make them laugh. Finally, the delivery part, you need learn the speech thoroughly, (not by heart it). Rehearse it several times in front of mirror, your family members and get their feedback. You can video record it and playback it and do the corrections.

POWER OF MENTORING Mentoring is the hallmark of success in the Toastmasters program. Members excel when helped by a senior member to reach the goals which they might not otherwise reach on their own. Mentees benefit greatly when mentors share their knowledge and experience. In turn, mentors get a chance to give back to their club by helping mentees improve their skills and grooming them for leadership roles. A prime example for these roles are me and my mentor TM Karthik.

I was a shy and introvert person. 4 years back, I started my journey. During my initial speeches I stammered, stuttered, dropped the speeches in the middle many times. I thought of giving up. My Mentor told me only one thing “ When you feel like quitting anything, think once why you started� . His encouraging words , his passion towards Toastmasters , his multi-tasking abilities inspired me to continue in Toastmasters.

These days I am feeling very comfortable on the stage and I completed my CC, CL, Pathways 2 levels. Not only that , Now, I started mentoring new members, like explaining them club roles, discussing the pathways tracks and providing assistance with speech topics. Now , I am enjoying as a mentor by enjoying my mentees success. My mentor made me a better leader and speaker but, most of all, he made me a better human being. Meanwhile my mentor moved to Dubai and he spread his wings there also. He was part of new club formation and now he is on track to reach his DTM goal.

Become a mentor and see the Power of mentoring through Toastmasters program which gives you utmost self-satisfaction.

Personally, when I stepped into Toastmasters, I saw some of the old Members interact, and I felt they had found families in fellow members.

One day, I thought that, I would join the family so that the entire club would know me. Today that dream has come true. Club welcomes everyone.

My Journey as Toastmaster I have a wonderful journey with Toastmaster international and TKS toastmaster club. I used to speak in a monotone voice with different persons in different situations as I am seeing one color. After joining to the TKS Toastmaster club I have improved my communication and speaking proficiency with the help of fellow toastmasters’ genuine feedback and encouragement. Each individual is at a different level of public speaking proficiency but toastmaster club makes all working towards the same goal. Now I can say confidently I will perceive modulations in my voice so that I can see Rainbow colors in future as a public speaker.

Women Empowerment Women empowerment implies the ability in women to take decisions with regard to their life and work and giving equal rights to them in all spheres like: personal, social, economic, political, legal and so on. Women empowerment has become buzzword today with women working alongside men in all spheres. They profess an independent outlook, whether they are living inside their home or working outside. Benefits of women Empowerment: 1. It adds to confidence of the women in their ability to lead meaningful and purposeful lives. 2. It removes their dependence on others and makes them individuals in their own right. 3. Without women's empowerment, we cannot remove injustice and gender bias and inequalities. 4.They act as capable citizens to make the country achieve enhanced Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth.

Women empowerment is must for the betterment of any country's future as they play dual responsibilities of managing their families while simultaneously juggling to earn to contribute in fulfilling the material needs of their families.
