What is per capita Consumption of Steel in the World? With industrial developments around the world, the requirement for steel has increased tremendously. Steel is used for many things today, including the construction of buildings and bridges, mechanical equipment, automotive, etc. According to the statistics of the World Steel Association in 2022 which was released recently, the global crude steel production was 1.951 billion tons, an increase of 3.8% compared to the years before. From the perspective of production trajectory, in 2021, the global output of converter steel is calculated at 70.8% and electric furnace steel is calculated at 28.9%. This means a decrease of 2.4 percent and an increase of 2.6 percent respectively when we compare it with the year 2020. The global average continuous casting ratio in 2021 was 96.9 percent, it was the same in 2020. The total export volume of global steel products both finished products and semifinished products was 459 million tons. Compared to the previous years, it increased by 13.1%. The total export output estimated was 25.2 percent of the output. This was as per the levels of previous years.

What is the apparent consumption of steel in the world? In terms of apparent consumption, the global apparent consumption of finished steel products in 2021 was 1.834 billion tons, with an increased percentage of 2.7%. The apparent consumption of finished steel products in almost all countries included in the statistics increased to varying degrees, while the apparent consumption of finished steel products in China decreased from 1.006 billion tons in 2020 to 952 million tons, a decrease of 5.4%.

Per Capita Consumption of Steel in the world In 2021, the global per capita apparent consumption of finished steel was 232.8kg, it increased by 3.8kg from the last year, slightly higher than the 230.4kg in 2019 before the outbreak, of which the per capita apparent consumption of steel in many countries increased by more than 100kg.

Final words The demand for steel in the industrial sectors has been increasing in recent years, hence increasing the consumption of steel around the world. In the past years, the production of steel has been increasing as well, in order to sufficiently supply the global needs for steel.
