ARC1011 | December 2024 | Instructor: Shane Williamson ACADEMIC WORK
The proposed architectural design for the new civic and bathing facility, situated at the heart of the former Ontario Place Forum. The building's circular design situates an expansive, unobstructed view of the surrounding environment, enhancing visitors’ sense of connection to the natural landscape. This form maximizes peripheral vision, reinforcing an immersive experience that blurs the boundaries between built space and nature. A continuous ramp encircling the structure further enhances this sense of fluidity and unity, guiding movement through the space in a dynamic yet harmonious manner.
At the core of the design is a courtyard-like swimming pool, which serves as a central void that facilitates natural light and ventilation throughout the facility. Strategically positioned, the pool functions not only as a recreational space but also as a symbolic and experiential anchor, evoking the essence of communal bathing traditions. Its presence enhances the building’s monumental character and layered spatial composition, inviting both locals and visitors to engage with water as a vital element of the public realm.

As architecture develops, timber and wood become a more popular material amongst designs across North America. However, with growing concerns of deforestation, a solution to mitigate the effects of climate change needed to be in place to adapt to the current natural environment.
Jason and I decided to create a new material for this assignment to limit the uses of new resources, and instead reuse resources for construction and architecture. For this academic assignment as a design point for our engineered material, paper pulp can be used in a sustainable, economical, structural, and aesthetical manner, to provide warm, comfortable, and sustainable spaces like what one will feel with wooden construction.

As a continuation of using paper pulp as a design point for our engineered material, Jason and I continue to investigate the aesthetical and structural limits of paper pulp through architecture.
Paper pulp can be used in a sustainable, economical, structural, and aesthetic manner to provide a warm, comfortable, and sustainable rest stop at the edge of Georgian Bay.
Keeping our goal to tackle the growing concerns of deforestation in mind, our design strategy revolves around a solution to mitigate the effects of climate change that needs to be in place to adapt to the current natural environment.

The Art of Japanese Joinery
ARC487 | May 2024 | Instructor: Nicholas Hoban
ACADEMIC WORK
Renowned for its history of wood craft and materials knowledge, Japan has continuously refined intricate wood joinery techniques, constitutiong the cornerstone of the nation's architectural heritage. By comprehending the success of centuries-cold wood working techniques, without the need for nails or screws, this research aims ot reembrace the value of traditional Japanese joinery through the lens of digital fabrication.
Although the complexity of Japanese wood joinery poses technical challenges given the limits of CNC machinery, this thesis explores the adaptation of hand-crafted artistry to digital fabrication technologies, embracing a new method of wood joinery for the use in building construction.
This research embraces the traditional essence of Japanese joinery methods by understanding the form and quality of the wooden joints, which were once created as a result of high skill craft and translating those aspects within the realm of digital machinery.

YOUNG ARCHITECTS COMPETITION | OCTOBER 2021 | COLLABORATED WITH KATIE DANG & JASON LEE COMPETITION WORK
Ympyrä brings forth the guests’ experiences and intertwines their emotions with the cultural domain of Finland’s nature. Surrounded by the vastness of Finland’s lush forestry, guests can embrace the comfortability of the surrounding community, the beauty of the mesmerizing Aurora Borealis, and culture of the Sami people.
Ympyrä strives to maximize guests’ encounters and memories in Finland, honouring the country through culturally-diverse and respected nature. The nature shared by Sami culture has been threatened for many years from the large influence of tourism in Rovaniemi, Finland.
Ympyrä seeks to set a precedent for architecture that reconciles and acknowledges not only the land it stands upon, but also the people native to it.
