Strategies you can use to ensure your body is properly hydrated everyday! 1. As soon as you wake up start your day with a big glass of water with some added fresh lemon juice and ginger if you fancy some spicy heat (great for your kidneys too) – add some hot water if you feel the need to drink it at a warmer temperature. This way you are already establishing a good habit for the day and have had a large amount of your daily requirement, it also helps replace a lot of fluid lost over night through sweating and breathing & helps with your morning bowel movement. 2. Invest in some good quality stainless steel drinking bottles to decant from your filtered water at home for work and being out and about in the car and take regular sips. (Avoid plastic containers where possible as they leach chemicals into the water). 3. If you need a reminder you can make a weekly chart and tick off each time you have 1 of your recommended 8 glasses a day or use a phone App, there are lots of great ones around now . Set a timer or reminder on your phone at regular intervals throughout the day to drink a glass of water, (there is a great free App called ‘Tell Me Later’). 4. The more fresh live food you eat the more water you will be getting from your diet. 5. Add fruit to your water to make it more interesting – mint, cucumber, lemons, limes or oranges. 6. Make a list and keep it visible as to why drinking water everyday is a good idea and how it directly affects you when you get dehydrated– for example – better quality sleep, regular bowels, great skin and hair, more energy! 7. If you’re not used to drinking good quality water then try cutting out all other drinks for one week and notice how your natural thirst comes back.
