Epsom salt bath

Epsom Salt Bath What does it do? This technique focuses on the skin as a route of elimination. Epsom salts are otherwise known as magnesium sulphate and have the effect of drawing toxicity and acidity out of the body through the skin. Epsom salts have long been known to treat boils. The hot bath helps the cell membranes to open to release toxicity and the heat helps to thin the lymph. The combination of the salts and heat help create a great deal of movement of toxins out the body. The salts have an incredibly soothing effect on both body and mind. NB. This technique is not recommended if you have high blood pressure pregnant or menstruating or believe you have any risk of haemorrhaging.

When should I use this technique? This technique is very useful in conjunction with a detoxification programme. It is also useful for aching muscles and joints due to the combination of magnesium and sulphur, either as a result of sport or other strenuous activity or if you feel the onset of flu type symptoms. This technique can also help assist with elimination problems. As magnesium is a mineral that the body requires for deep restful sleep this technique can also be incredibly useful in the evening for a good night’s sleep.

What do I need? Up to 1kg of epsom salts and of course a bath tub

Instructions 1. Pour the epsom salts into an empty bath 2. Run the water and swish around the salts to help them dissolve. The water needs to be warm to hot. If the bath is extremely hot (and I recommend getting in as you run it so you can calibrate your own tolerance to the temperature well), then add a cool cloth to your head 3. Bathe for up to 20 minutes. Do not use soap or any other toiletries or substances in the bath as it can diminish the effect of the salts. 4. You can finish by doing one of the following: - add cold water to the bath to bring the temperature down, thereby encouraging the body to bring up its own latent heat - take a cold shower, thereby encouraging the body to bring up its own latent heat - quickly dry and go to bed. You may well continue to sweat and this will encourage lymph movement of toxins out through the skin You may feel a little weak or tired after having an epsom salts bath, so be sure to take it easy.
