Linseed Tea Benefits Linseed tea is a fantastic way to introduce hydrating water and omega 3 oils to the body gently, especially if you’ve been dehydrated for a long time and not used to drinking water. It’s super hydrating to the digestive system so will help anyone with sluggish bowels or constipation and you will often notice an improvement of the natural hydration and oils in both your hair and skin when drinking it regularly. The omega-3 fatty acids and lignans in the linseeds are both antioxidants that help protect your cells and tissues from free radicals. The tea has also been found to help improve cholesterol levels and blood sugar balance thereby reducing your risk of getting type 2 diabetes. It also has anti-cancer properties. The combination of water and oils (omega 3 essential fatty acids) are great at rehydrating the body and calming inflammation in the digestive tract and bowels.

To Make... Put 2 level tablespoons of golden linseeds into a large pan with 1 litre of water. Bring to the boil (watch carefully as boils over very easily due to oil content, normally takes about 6 minutes so can be helpful to set an alarm), then switch off and cover overnight or for 8 hours. After resting time bring back to the boil again then turn down to a simmer for 1 hour. Turn off, drain off linseeds and throw them away, you are now left with your linseed tea. Straightaway pour into cups 2/3’s full and leave to cool, then cover and refrigerate. If you don’t do immediately before the tea starts to cool then the mixture becomes too thick to separate. To have tea, add hot water to the cup and stir to thin liquid. Have ½ hr before food. Best to drink in the morning before breakfast and/or before bed.
