Welcome to the Summer RISE program at Glenstone Museum! We’re so glad that you’re joining our team this summer. In this workbook, you’ll find tips on how to enrich your experience with us by setting goals, breaking those goals down into actionable tasks, reflecting on your progress, and keeping track of your schedule.
In addition to using this workbook, you may also want to take pictures of what you write here with a phone or add meetings to a digital calendar, just in case this workbook gets misplaced.
If you have any questions or issues, please don’t hesitate to ask your new colleagues and supervisors. We collaborate here at Glenstone to learn, grow, and solve challenges together.
SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Based) bring clarity to goalsetting. They help to narrow your focus, build your motivation, and achieve success in a specific time frame. An example of a SMART goal is: I will schedule two networking lunches by July 25 to widen my network and learn more about career opportunities that interest me.
What are some SMART goals that will help you to make progress and grow this year?
• Who’s involved?
• What do I want to accomplish?
• When do I want to achieve this?
• Where does my goal take place?
• Why is the goal important?
• Make sure you can achieve your goal in the time frame you set. Assess if you have the resources/skills to achieve it.
• In the example above, you would need to obtain two sets of contact information to reach out and schedule a lunch.
• What metrics are you going to use to determine if you meet the goal?
• In the example above, the goal is to schedule two networking lunches.
• Your goal needs to be relevant to your broader life objectives, which will support your motivation and focus.
• In the example, your broader objectives are to widen your network and learn about careers that interest you, both of which would enrich your life.
• Set goals with a clear deadline to maintain accountability and focus your efforts. A goal without a deadline is just a wish!

Now try creating a SMART goal for yourself! Use the prompts below to make sure your goal meets all of the SMART goal criteria.
My goal is:
How is your goal specific?
How is your goal measurable?
How is your goal achievable?
How is your goal relevant?
How is your goal time-bound?
Now, let’s take your goal and think about how you can best set yourself up to succeed. Please fill out the sections below.
How will this goal enhance your life, role or expertise? For example, this goal will help me be a better _________ (artist, writer, environmentalist, engineer) because ...
List 5 small, specific steps you will take to get you to your goal. Try making your first step something you can do in just 15 minutes.
What are some obstacles that might arise?
What are some potential solutions to those obstacles?
Here is some more space for setting SMART goals, in case you want to set multiple goals or revise your plans!

When you put a seed in the ground, it doesn’t stop growing after eight hours. It keeps going every minute that it’s in the earth. We, too, need to keep growing every moment of every day that we are on this earth.

You can’t sit around and wait for somebody to say who you are. You need to write it and paint it and do it.

Congratulations on completing your Summer RISE experience! Please use this space to make some final reflections about your summer at Glenstone. Thanks for joining us!
What were your biggest accomplishments during Summer RISE?
What is one of your favorite memories from working at Glenstone?
What lessons or skills did you gain this summer that you will keep building?

I have kept a diary as long as I can remember, and drawings are really another kind of diary.
