Inspired by personal recollections of the coast, Sarah Jane Brown's new series of paintings explores the intense yet fleeting nature of memory and its effect upon the present.
Sarah Jane uses painting as a way to engage with personal experience and emotion. The coastal landscape near her home is source material for much of her work, though her approach is more introspective, allowing her to explore powerful themes that go beyond simple visual representation.
'The details don't matter, what matters is the feeling; the sound of the sea, the gulls, the wind, the smell of the salt in the air, the feel of the elements on your skin, and the thoughts that pass through your head when you're standing on a beach or a cliff top.'
On this personal journey, she looks to share her experiences and through her paintings offer others the opportunity to feel something that will perhaps make a difference to them, something fundamental.
