01. MEDICAL CITY

Architectural Design

Fifth year (Graduation project)

Location: Soba North, Khartoum, Sudan. 2022

It is a basic human right to receive high quality and proper healthcare, Therefore, many countries allocate a large part of their budgets to provide the appropriate medical service and to find qualified administrative competencies to ensure the maximum benefit from the available capabilities, which is to build health care centres and hospitals and provide them with the necessary devices and equipment as well as the manpower.

“TAKE CARE OF THE PATIENT AND EVERYTHING ELSE WILL FOLLOW ”

City planning was executed at first, the site analysis and all research regarding the site was done, therefore the concept was determined. the city consist of four main zones: the healthcare zone, medical/non- medical zone, the reasearch zone (educational) and the staff accommodation zone. the healthcare zone consist of top 10 most needed medical specialities in sudan according to the medical comission reports for the past years.

MASTER PLAN (LAND-USE)

The concept is reflected in the medical city axis, it is derived from the Neuron cell/Nerve cell, the cell nucleus representing the nods in which acts as a common area and distributer for the cluster. the connection between the axon and synapse creating the linkage between nods and the perfect axis hierarchy.

• The site is located in Soba North in the East Nile Governate, Khartoum, Sudan.

• The zones placements were studied according to the effects of the site Neighbourings and the effects of the natural factors (Temperature, Sun Path, Wind, Noise…etc.).

• Accessibility to site: Main entrance leads to all zones and stops in the staff accommodation zone, Residents entrance leads to staff accommodation zone & Service entrance circulates around the city.

A university campus that contains 18 different faculties, dormitory for female and male students, educational hospital and an administration building along with all the services needed to make the campus a comfortable and welcoming environment for the students with different mindsets.

Three buildings were designed in the campus along with the urban design of the campus, the buildings are: Architecture faculty building, Educational Hospital and the female & male dormitories. the project was carried out in three stages.

Suakin is an island located on the Red Sea in the southwestern part at the end of a narrow bay four kilometers long, about one hundred meters wide and about eleven meters deep, with coral reefs. it was a source of economical income for the country but duo to many events it got deserted and it was our mission to bring it back to life and encourage the tourism and trade in the island.

“LEGENDS INDICATE THAT THE NAME SWAKIN HAS ITS ORIGIN TAKEN FROM (SWAGEN) WHICH REFERS TO THE WORD (PRISON) FROM SOLOMON’S RESTRICTION OF THE JINN AND THEIR IMPRISONMENT ON THIS SEA ISLAND.” Historic, natural and human studies were executed first in order to know what we are dealing with, then the concept and zoning were carefully introduced with the awarness of the importance of perserving the historic buildings that were still standing in the island.

The five star hotel is located in Suakin island (re-planned version), it is used to serve the tourists that visit the island.

The identity of the island had to be included in the design in general in terms of facades desgin, construction materials... etc. in order to attract tourists and introduce them to the cultures of the island and the people who lived within it.
