The Forbes Shire Council remained a stand alone council, while Forbes and Parkes Shire Councils became part of the Riverina Federal Electorate. The Forbes Services Memorial Club Cinema opened on Boxing Day. NSW Premier Mike Baird opened the new Forbes Hospital. Paddy Molloy was named Senior Citizen of the year, and Daniel Ashcroft Junior Citizen of the Year on Australia Day. Around 500 people attended the All Roads Lead Back to Forbes event to reunite current and former Forbes residents.
Isaac Wren, a Year 12 Forbes High School graduate, had his HSC video game project included in InTech 2016 and displayed at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum. Forbes recorded three times its normal rainfall for January with 81.4mm recorded for the month. A time capsule was sealed at the new Forbes Hospital to preserve a period of history for future generations. The Hogs for the Homeless tour with national rugby league legends came to Forbes to raise funds for homeless people.
Forbes filmmaker Dane Millerd obtained rights to a book about Australia’s worst female criminal, and wrote a movie script for it. Member for Calare John Cobb announced his retirement from politics, and Member for Orange Andrew Gee put his hand up for Calare. The Fire and Rescue NSW Firefighter Championship was held in Forbes with 25 teams competing. The Forbes brigade finished 8th and 11th. Ten families from Forbes have used the Ronald McDonald House in Orange since its opening in April 2015.
