Find Your Secret Power This Book Week
It is one of every child’s favourite weeks at school – the annual Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week which is being held this week at schools in and around Canowindra. It is a time when children and parents can get creative together and come up with a costume to wear to school. The theme this year is “Reading is my Secret Power” so the costume possibilities are endless! Some great costumes were on display at Pre-School on Tuesday including Where’s Wally, The Man From Snowy River, Elsa, Little Red Riding Hood and Thelma the Unicorn to name a few! The Canowindra Pre-School children were treated each day this week, with a different member of the local community coming into read a story. On Monday for-
mer Pre-School Director Anne Ward came into read, on Tuesday local Librarian Rossanne Holmes read “A Stack of Alpacas” by Matt Cosgrove and “I Just Ate My Friend” finishing off the morning with a scarecrow song and dance that the children loved! On Wednesday the Canowindra Community Reading Day was held at St Edward’s School with activities, book readings, a fruit break and a free lunch for all students and on Thursday “Cowboy” Tommy Jeffs will entertain the Gumnut and Gumtree room children at Canowindra Pre-School. The Canowindra Public School will celebrate book week and the importance of reading with a Book Parade today Thursday 22nd August at 2pm at the school hall.
