January always marks a time of celebration with the Australia Day awards held at Morris Park. Citizen of the year for 2016 went to Owen McLaughlan, an ex Agriculture teacher at Canowindra High School and Junior Citizen of the year was awarded to Matt Harrison, student at Canowindra High School. The celebration continued throughout the month with many little smiling faces as kids transitioned from preschool to kindergarten. Catch of the weeks flooded in this month with the big fish biting.

Steve Maere finally popped the question to Dani Jenkins while on Holidays in New Zealand on top of Mount Maunganui and the team at IGA continues to give back through their community chest programme, raising a remarkable amount for local organisations. A total of $3210 was raised each for the Canowindra Golf Club and Beyond Blue. The Canberra Raiders made a visit to Canowindra Public School to promote healthy living and to show how to effectively work as a team.

Over 50 women attended International Women’s Day at the Canowindra Bowling Club to encouraged belief and power in each individual to change the world. The event raised $975 for the organisation One Girl. Easter fell early this year in March with many celebrations throughout the town, including the annual hat parade. A mystery ride for charity was organised by Malcolm Millar, which consisted of a bike ride through surrounding towns stopping off at five different pubs to raise money for Ronald McDonald House.
