Artful 8 Exhibition Opening
With over 120 people in attendance, Marian Arnold the Festival Patron for the Canowindra Baroque Festival, officially opened the Artful 8 exhibition and the Baroque festival at the old hardware store in Gaskill Street, on Friday night. It was simply amazing to see what the hard working committee have done in such a short space of time to enable this opening to go ahead. It is a generous space and thanks to the curator Isabelle Mathieu, the paintings by the following artists were displayed magnificently: Sue Hodge, David Isbester, Virginia Mooney, Isabelle Mathieu, Jan Platt, Derek Maitland and Ann Morton. Over 300 people have come through the gallery during the past two weeks. Arthur Falconer, Chairman of the Canowindra Arts said, “We started this with the aim
of providing a public place for local artists to display their works, a learning environment for children to learn about and appreciate art, and a theraputic opportunity for elderly and disabled people. The way we hope to fund this is to provide fee paying workshops in all the arts, including creative writing, painting, sculpture, pottery, drawings, textiles and ongoing exhibitions from artists around the regions. The next step will be to create a camera club to introduce photography into Canowindra Arts. We are hoping that the next exhibition will be held in the new year. This was a trial to see if we could garner public support and it has been wonderful to see it so well supported. Everyone is welcome.”
