Museum Calls For Locals To Support Keeping An Icon In Canowindra
Canowindra’s Age of Fishes Museum has called upon the community to get behind them to keep an iconic car in Canowindra when Charlie McCarron auctions off his extensive collection of cars and memorabilia next month. Charlie’s collection is one of Australia’s most impressive personal collections of vintage cars. The auction will take place over three days from September 29 to October 2, with people expected from all over the world to attend. One of his cars is a 1963 Holden sedan with the Age of Fishes Museum logo emblazoned across its side, which holds significant importance to the Age of Fishes Museum, who would love to see it remain in town. The car was used to gather momentum for the major fish fossil dig in Canowindra in 1993, and after being parked outside the
Council offices for an extended period of time, lead to the creation of the Age of Fishes Museum. In an effort to keep the car in Canowindra, the Museum has set up a ‘Go Fund Me’ account online, and has encouraged locals to donate to it, with all funds raised to be used at Charlie McCarron’s auction to bid for the car. Age of Fishes Museum Manager Warren Keedle said the money would go to a great cause. “Even if we lose our bid, all money raised will be used to create an exhibit on the legacy of the car at the Museum,” he said. “If successful the car will be housed at the Museum in an ongoing exhibit.” If you would like to donate, visit https:// www.gofundme.com/2ntq7tes.
