STATE FAIR PARK CLOSES OUT ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR The 2012 horse show season came to a close at State Fair Park during the month of December. State Fair Park continues to offer the finest equine facilities in the nation, if not the world, attracting the top horse shows and equine events from across the globe showcasing multiple breeds and disciplines, thus maintaining the title of “Horse Show Capital of the World.” December featured the 27th Annual World Barrel Racing Futurity, Sweepstakes and Derby. It took place at State Fair Park, beginning December 4 and running through December 8. Of the hundreds of barrel futurities held each year throughout the United States, the Oklahoma City event heads the list. Nearly 1,300 entries competed for over $750,000 in cash and awards. Taking home the Futurity Championship was Brett Monroe, riding the 2008 sorrel gelding – RLJ High Intedsity, owned by Homer Beasley. This show drew over 40,700 spectators and participants and had a direct spending impact of over $9 million on Oklahoma City. In all, State Fair Park played host to 15 events during the month of December. In addition to the equine competition mentioned above, other events included the OKC Train Show, Super Dave’s Gun Show, a Motorcycle Swap Meet, the Oklahoma Natural Gas Company Children’s Christmas Party, a Buchanan’s Vintage Market, the RK Gun Show, the Deluxe Indie Craft Bazaar, the Sooner Trade Exchange Trade Show, the Family Expectations Holiday Party, the Athlete’s First Basketball Classic, the Oklahoma City Gun Show, the Junk Hippy Road Show, the OK Paint Horse Club Holiday Classic and a Gun, Knife & Outdoor Equipment Show. In all, there were 75,960 people present during the 276 event days held at State Fair Park, generating over $12.5 million in direct spending into the Oklahoma City economy.
