A dissertation submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the MSc Building and Urban Design in Development.
This dissertation seeks to investigate this gap between discursive intentions
and materialisations of transport infrastructure projects. It will do so by
studying the distributional effects of material and discursive practices of
Janmarg - Ahmedabads Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and understand
its relations to distributional impacts in the city. It seeks to understand
how disjunctions between discursive practices and material practices determine
conditions of mobility and immobility (physical, social and political) in the city, how
dominant power groups shapes this disjunction and how a discursive shift can alter
urban development trajectories.
