You Need To Know About Floating Seals Floating Face Seals and Track Drive Maintenance Floating face seals are key components of travel motors or final drives for John Deere skid steer or ASV compact track loaders. Planetary gears keep gear oil on the planetary side and prevent contaminants from entering bearings and gears. If this seal begins to leak, the drive motor will be damaged. In this blog post we talk about 5 things you need to know about floating face seals and track drive maintenance.

1. How does a floating face seal work? Floating face seals are used by many different names, including duo cone seals, dual cone seals, toric rings, mechanical face seals or main seals. The assembly of the floating face seal consists of two halves. Each half has a sealing ring and a toric elastomeric ring acting as a secondary sealing element. Finely polished / wound so that one side of the seal ring engages with one side of the opposite seal ring. The elastomeric ring presses two seal halves together to provide a seal.
