HELLO SANTEE!
I love celebrating Santee – we have an abundance of hometown pride and it’s easy to understand why people (myself included) love to live and work in our city. This year, the City of Santee turns 40 years old and they have a year-long list of events to celebrate at every chance possible! For many, there are roots much deeper than the four decades in which the city has been incorporated, but for now, we celebrate the achievement that took place in December of 1980. We are often flooded on social media with images of how Santee used to be, but it excites me to see how far we’ve come. (Although I do get a little sentimental thinking about businesses which have closed -- rest in peace Roller Skate Land!)
The City started the year off strong this January with a series of events beginning with a relay around town starting at West Hills High School and ending at Trolley Square, an Olympic qualifying trial for 2020 hopefuls, a Sunset 5k fun run/walk, and a twist on their popular Fido Fest as it was held closer to Valentine’s Day this year.
The Chamber has kicked into high gear as well, hosting our annual voting program, Santee’s Favorites, and announcing the winners at our Business Awards Night on February 20th. We have a jampacked year as well and look forward to everything our community has to offer in 2020. If you want a full list of City celebrations, please refer to page 12, or a list of upcoming community events being held by various organizations can be found on page 37.
We’d love to hear your stories about how you celebrate Santee with the changes you’ve seen over the past forty years and what it means to live, work and play in our community. Please share your stories and images with us at info@santeechamber.com or use hashtag #SanteeCelebrates40Years on your favorite social media platform. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Santee Chamber of Commerce,
AL’S SPORT SHOP
Winning in Santee for over 40 years
Back in the late 70s, my Uncle decided that he didn’t want to continue working in the Aerospace industry as a cost analyst accountant. He wanted to follow his own vison. Research showed that Sporting Goods was an excellent opportunity, and that the almostincorporated city of Santee was underserved in Sporting Goods, and was a great place to live and raise kids. As it turns out, he was spot on!
On August 19, 1979, Al & Mary Treadwell opened Al’s Sport Shop in Santee. We are now in our third location at the corner of Mission Gorge and Carlton Hills. The
second location behind Jimmy’s Restaurant burned to the ground in 1998 with only a single basketball surviving the fire, but Al’s Sport Shop was open for business the very next day! We have the surviving ball on display in the store.
When Al and Mary retired several years ago, my wife and I took over the store. We are honored to continue the Al’s Sport Shop tradition. Of course, Al and Mary couldn’t just walk away. In fact, Mary told Al 20 years ago, “Wow! I can’t imagine being 72 and still helping kids find their gear!” Well, here they are! Mary comes in and works on Thursdays, and Al is still active at the store, restringing customers’ gloves.
In over forty years of business, we’ve seen that at the most basic and fun level, things are still wonderfully old-fashioned. Parents and kids come in together to find their first glove, cleats, balls, and letter jackets. It’s the best part! Team sales still require a personal touch and knowledge of products, and service is still important when it comes outfitting teams, and fitting young kids for their gear. We’ve added a lot of technology; we have our own industrial lasers, large format printers, and embroidery machines. We have two graphic designers on-staff and mange almost all

of our production in-house. We offer custom internet team stores for schools and organizations that not only provide custom products but allow for significant fundraising for those organizations.
We survive because of the community; we are here to serve as best we can. We know many of our customers by name and take pride in helping them take their ideas and make them real. People trust us and we want to earn that. Our Mission is to be a value to our community. We live here and love it! We are not in the Sporting Goods business, we are in the “Customer Service Business,” we just happen to sell sporting goods. It’s about the experience and the people. It’s fun and rewarding to interact and get to know our customers. We want to make their day! We still measure the feet of kids getting shoes. I don’t think they do that anywhere anymore... I hope we are staying true, that’s my daily goal!
We are grateful beyond words for the privilege of being a part of this community. It would likely surprise people to know that only about half of our business is from the retail store. Working with high schools, colleges, professional teams, and local businesses are a huge part of what we do. We belong to the largest buying group for independent Sporting Goods retailers in the world. It gives us a cumulative buying power that is better than many big box retailers. We are very competitive, yet every single customer is important to us. Every day I fit a 5-yearold with a baseball glove or soccer shoes, I hope that never dies… It’s the love of the game that keeps kids
playing, and as long as parents and kids want to play, we’ll be around. I hope.
– Rob Treadwell, Al's Sport Shop
SANTEE UNVEILS ITS NEW LOOK
While celebrating its 40th Birthday
A community brand is what people say about a community, and the purpose of the branding initiative is to differentiate the City of Santee from surrounding communities. The goal is to make sure the City’s brand is the guiding principle for the future, not just a logo and tagline. The brand will help boost the city’s multi-year marketing strategy and highlight Santee’s strengths and opportunities to help attract new businesses, visitors, residents and economic investors.
On December 11, 2019, North Star Destination Strategies and City of Santee staff unveiled the City’s new logo and tagline, which was developed over eight months through an extensive branding process.
The formal branding process included extensive community research, stakeholder interviews, focus group discussions and community surveys to make sure Santee’s true essence was captured. “We are very excited for this new look to highlight and tell Santee’s story. It will also pair nicely with our 40th birthday celebration taking place all year long in 2020,” says Marlene Best, City Manager of the City of Santee.
The logo’s simple design allows for a variety of creative applications using art and photography. The new brand provides a modern, streamlined look that will position Santee in the best possible light for years to come. The city’s new logo pulls its inspiration from those wanting a close-knit community and wideopen opportunities to thrive, while emphasizing the natural beauty of the city’s location, which is
hugged by Santee Lakes and Mission Trails Park. It also embraces Santee’s proximity as a strong point of connection and prideful community that affords families the freedom to live their aspirations.
A brand narrative is a central building block of a meaningful brand strategy. A portion of Santee’s brand narrative reads as follows:
Don’t just coast—thrive! Do more. Due East.
Head into East County, where the City of Santee connects Greater San Diego to a better way of life. Residents here know every treasure to be found along the ocean twenty-some minutes away, but they also find plentiful adventure in their own backyard. Their inland experience holds more hidden gems than you ever imagined. Discover stunning natural beauty that stretches over hills, valleys, and the San Diego River. Whatever your preference, Mission Trails Park, Walker Preserve, and Santee Lakes let you escape for hours at a time by putting you in the middle of cameraready landscapes, wildlife, and water features. With year-round, uninhibited access to miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, you certainly won’t miss treading endless sidewalks or repeating your usual indoor workout.
Enjoy the charm of small town living on any given day. The close bonds between people in Santee are palpable from the stands of the Sportsplex to the crowds of Summer Concerts. It is this tight-knit sense of community that sets the city apart, and you are more than welcome to join at every establishment and event. When you treat yourself to a round of trivia at a brewery or bring out your pup to Fido Fest, you’ll see that conversations and friendships follow effortlessly. Since Santee is only a fraction of the size of San Diego, you won’t be a stranger here for long. Make Santee feel more like home, if commitment is your thing. There’s a place on the market for every want and personality—from the family-sized fixer-upper to the move-in ready business space. Whether searching for an at-home chef’s kitchen or an entrepreneur’s startup launchpad, you’ll find new
| TSM 10
neighbors to be friendly, talented, and happy to help at every step. And at budget-friendly prices that put your California Dream within reach, you can feel confident in embarking on your latest venture in Santee.
Looking forward, Santee’s commitment to the little things you cherish will never change. With the help of the community, the city can balance both reverence for the natural landscape and view growth through the lens of sustainability. It will support the businesses that serve and entertain people from across East County and beckon new investors and employers to follow suit. Because the opportunity for a better life is here, along with the promise of something more.
Do more. Due East. In Santee, California.
The city will continue to formally roll out the new brand and marketing plan throughout 2020 while simultaneously counting down until the City of Santee’s official Birthday which is on December 1, 2020. Stay connected with a list of birthday activities that will showcase the city’s new brand. A list of activities will be updated regularly on the city’s website www.cityofsanteeca.gov.
Don't forget what matters most.
Do more. Due East.

MY HOMETOWN
BREE HUMPHREY
If you live, work or even play in Santee, it’s probably fair to say you’ve been exposed to some of the wonderful work of Bree Humphrey. A Santee gal through and through, Bree grew up in town attending Carlton Oaks and Chet F. Harritt Elementary Schools and West Hills High School. While still in high school, a friend who was an intern at the City of Santee, asked Bree if she wanted to volunteer at an upcoming event. With her letterman’s jacket on and bright attitude, she went in for her first interview and started as a Recreation Intern in 2004, the rest is history. She had unknowingly embarked upon her career, which she loves and enjoys very much to this day.
Even at a young age, her role at the City appeared to be a natural fit. Being on the mature side for her age, organization and planning came easily so it was an organic growth as she learned the ropes. After finishing high school, Bree carried on to Grossmont College and transferred over to SDSU to obtain her degree. Knowing recreation might be a little too specific for her she focused on completing her business degree with an emphasis in marketing; both areas which have helped her immensely in what she’s accomplished and what is yet to come.
With the past 15 years of experience in special events, the evolution has been clear: Bree has been marketing for the City this whole time as she’s networked and built quality relationships throughout our community.
As the City began the process of creating its own unique brand, it was painfully obvious she was interested in seeing the process through. There became a need for the brand so the City could be unique in its own identity. Bree was ready to step up and accept that challenge. She and a team of City staff worked with the branding company to develop and create the new brand. As she moves into her new role for the City as their Marketing Coordinator, she will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the new brand
and city logo, growing the Business Visitation Program, working side by side with every department within the City of Santee to help market and promote new programs, integrate the new city logo, to maintain and develop relationships with outside agencies and organizations and to ensure the City is being represented in all areas of the community.
“We as a City need to tell our own story, and if I can help lead that charge, I’m excited to do so.” After recently driving home to San Diego from Santa Cruz, I found myself admiring many towns along the way who already had a clear vision of their brand. Welcome signs, monuments and hillsides with town names made me realize how needed this new identity is for Santee. Afterwards, I sat down with Bree to ask her more about how the branding of the City would directly impact her and how much she’s already accomplished. Her answers were just like her, honest and smart. She gave so much praise to her coworkers and mentors, acknowledging their contributions to her professional growth.
“I’ve grown up with them; it’s only fair to say they’ve molded and shaped me into the person I am today.” However, I see the need to give her more credit than she gives herself. Bree isn’t lucky, she works hard and prepares so when she is at in intersection with an opportunity, there’s a clear direction to turn. She’s come a long way from the 16-year-old who first came to the City of Santee’s Community Services Department as a volunteer. Over the years she has become a part of Santee’s history through her involvement in largescale projects. She’s been part of the team who opened the connection from Highway 52 to Highway 67, created the beloved Bluegrass Festival and Fido Fest, opened Town Center Community Park East, Walker Preserve, the newly renovated Mast Park, started the Santee Sunset 5k, and many more… the list goes on.
Her willingness to learn anything and everything enhances her ability to continually thrive. If it means she will better herself, her job, or her hometown... it’s a given.

EXPERT TALK: ALUMINUM WIRING
EXPERT TALK: ALUMINUM WIRING
Clinkenbeard, Farmers Insurance
With over 25 years in business, a common topic that we get asked about is aluminum wiring. It is super common in San Diego. Homes built in the 1960’s to late 1970’s were commonly built with aluminum wiring. It was a very reliable conductor when installed correctly and maintained well. It is no longer used because it is a serious fire hazard. Many things contribute to making it hazardous such as oxidization, loose connections from the natural expansion of the metal, breakage from improper installation, replacing plugs and switches with devices that aren’t rated for aluminum—just to name a few.

It is important to be aware of warning signs like flickering lights, outlets not working, tripping breakers for no apparent reason, odors coming from your receptacles and switches, sparking, discoloration on switches or receptacles. Not all these are signs of aluminum wiring defects, but they are certainly electrical warning signs and should not be ignored. Good news is there are several methods that can be implemented to address concerns of aluminum wiring. If you have reason to believe you have a wiring issue posing a fire risk, get an inspection from a certified electrical contractor.

When insuring your home you are going to be asked several questions to help the insurance company determine the acceptability and premium cost of your policy. Most of these questions are standard from company to company. Among them are; type and age of your roof, copper or plastic plumbing, and copper or aluminum electrical wiring. In the insurance industry, the presence of aluminum wiring is considered an unacceptable hazard. Generally this means insurance companies will not knowingly insure your home if it has aluminum wiring.

Years of statistical information shows houses with aluminum wiring are more likely to have an electrical fire due to overheating or wire separation. A Google
search will show pictures of burnt wires and burned down houses that are a direct result of aluminum wiring.

Homeowners should also be careful to fully disclose the presence of aluminum wiring to their insurance company. Withholding this information can be considered misrepresentation and can lead to a claim being denied. It’s always best to be upfront with your agent to make sure you address any issues right away. If you suspect your home has aluminum wiring, consult a licensed contractor and have it checked out. What you don’t know can cost you money.

FANITA RANCH CULTIVATES THE GREENING OF SANTEE
additional lane to westbound 52, adding an additional eastbound lane on the San Diego River bridge, creating a high capacity on-ramp at Mast Boulevard and improving the local street network with enhancements to Fanita Parkway, Cuyamaca Street and Magnolia Avenue –and all of this happens before the first residents move in,” O’Connor emphasized.
The new plan for Fanita Ranch delivers significant traffic improvements, 2,000+ acres of open space, 35 miles of public trails, an approximately 30-acre Farm and sustainable neighborhoods.
Fanita Ranch has been closely linked to the history of Santee since Hosmer P. McKoon purchased ranch land in 1885 and named it Fanita Ranch, in honor of his wife, Fannie. Early news reports tell of him being quite the businessman. From harvesting potatoes, green beans, sweet potatoes, and other produce on his sprawling rancho, he also sold 10-acre plots for $50 an acre for those interested in building homes for their families. The City of Santee was then incorporated in 1980 and the area has been planned as a future residential community ever since.
Today, HomeFed Corporation has plans to transform the remaining 2,600 acres into a sustainable community rooted in its agrarian past that delivers significant benefits to the current residents of Santee.
Significant Traffic Improvements
“We want to balance the needs of the Santee community with the needs of our future residents at Fanita Ranch,” said Jeff O’Connor, director of development at HomeFed Corporation, which has owned the Fanita Ranch property since 2011. “Following numerous community meetings, we’ve heard the citizens of Santee loud and clear. Traffic along SR 52 is of the upmost concern. Therefore, we have committed to dramatically improving traffic by adding an
“Once all these improvements are in place, peakhour trip capacity will improve dramatically. And, these traffic improvements create four times more capacity than the trips that will be added by Fanita Ranch residents, improving traffic for everyone,” he said.
To enable residents to better visualize the traffic improvements, HomeFed Corporation has prepared a digital simulation of the current traffic conditions and infrastructure, as well as the planned improvements. The simulation can be viewed on the Fanita Ranch website, http:// fanitaranch.com/
“It is important to note that, without the approval of Fanita Ranch, Santee has determined that there is no alternative funding source for upgrades to SR 52,” said O’Connor. “SANDAG’s plans for the freeway corridor improvements are not scheduled to take place until around 2050,” he added.
Responsible Stewardship
Carlsbad-based HomeFed Corporation, the master developer of San Elijo Hills, has spent millions of dollars and sought out some of the most respected land planning experts in the world to help it determine the best use of the picturesque Fanita Ranch property.
After careful consideration, the HomeFed team determined that the existing voter-approved 2007 plan for Fanita Ranch was outdated and not in keeping with today’s emphasis on sustainability, resources conservation, smaller homes on compact footprints, and the latest innovations in fire protection.

Fanita Ranch Advertorial
76% Open Space
In the new plan for Fanita Ranch 76 percent of the property – 2,044 acres with trails – will be preserved as perpetual open space, parks, trails and agriculture for all of Santee to enjoy.
With the help of state and federal wildlife agencies – for the first time ever – the new plan will open up approximately 35 miles of trails for area residents to hike, bike and explore the property, which is filled with stunning vistas, beautiful rock formations and riparian areas. The trail system will also connect with existing trail networks that link to Goodan Ranch, Sycamore Canyon and Mission Trails regional parks.
In a bow to Santee’s agrarian past, Fanita Ranch will make agriculture the centerpiece of community life and includes 30 acres of farms with additional orchards and vineyards, where pesticide-free biodynamic farming will be practiced. The entire Santee community can look forward to fresh produce, volunteer opportunities, educational experiences, fieldtrips, internships and festivals that celebrate the bounty of the land.
“The open space in Fanita Ranch will be protected in perpetuity,” said O’Connor, citing a legally binding agreement that is part of the city’s requirement for development.
“We look forward to partnering with the city, to build a community that all Santee residents can be proud of.”
The Fanita Ranch plan proposed by HomeFed Corporation will open up 2,022 acres, 76 percent of the property. to open space with trails, parks, and agriculture for all Santee to enjoy.
With the collaboration of state and federal agencies, the new Fanita Ranch plan will create approximately 35 miles of trails for hiking and bicycling.
The property is filled with beautiful views, unique rock formations and peaceful riparian areas.

MAST PARK'S $12 MILLION RENOVATION
New playgrounds, pavilions, lighted trails and a food vendor make the new Mast Park a great place to spend a day outdoors.
After a year of renovation work, Santee’s oldest park is now its newest! On February 1st, the City of Santee celebrated the re-opening of Mast Park. Originally developed in 1986, Mast Park was worn at the edges and overshadowed by other city parks with more modern facilities. The new Mast Park incorporates many amenities requested by park users while saving most of the mature Sycamore and Live Oak trees that give the park its natural character. Nestled within the leafy 28acre park east of Carlton Hills Boulevard are additional picnic pavilions, a new playground, an expanded dog park (with separate areas for puppies, small and large dogs) and a state-of-the-art ninehole disc golf course that will challenge the best players while providing an opportunity for beginners to learn
the ropes. When you’ve worked up an appetite, a gourmet food stand will offer signature burgers, hot dogs and craft beer at the center of the action.
The new children’s playground features a 3-story slide and an adjacent nature discovery area that encourages kids to scramble on rocks and “fallen trees” salvaged from the renovation work. Areas that were formerly inaccessible or unappealing have been opened up, effectively tripling the useable acreage of the park! Plants native to the San Diego River and adjoining uplands provide habitat for birds and bugs while maintaining visibility through the park. Walking trails are wide and lighted for added security. New restrooms are clean and bright. Parking has been expanded and the access road has been extended facilitating monitoring of activity in the park by sheriff’s deputies. The comfort and security of park users have guided all aspects of the new park’s design.
If you missed the grand opening, it’s not

too late to be among the first to explore the new Mast Park! Round up the family (or your walking group or book club) and check it out. You’ll be surprised how much has changed. The city looks forward to hosting legions of joggers and strollers and dog walkers. This park is designed to accommodate them all.
Fun facts:
• The property on which Mast Park is situated encompasses a total of 58 acres, extending south of the San Diego River. The majority of the property is dedicated to habitat preservation.
• The majority of funding for the $12.4-million-dollar project came from fees paid by housing developers, including a $932,000 contribution from Pardee Homes. Grants provided the second largest source of funding, including $1,920,000 from the San Diego River Conservancy to support the project’s water quality and habitat improvements. The Office of County Supervisor Diane Jacob kicked-in $186,271 for play equipment and other improvements.
• Trails through Mast Park form a link in the San Diego River Trail that will one day provide a continuous trail from the Pacific Ocean through Santee to the river’s source in the Cleveland National Forest near Julian.
• Prior to development of the current park, a baseball facility operated by the Santee Youth Association occupied the river bottom north of Willow Grove Avenue. The baseball park was destroyed by floods in 1979-1980.
• Mast Park is named for Bill Mast, the former president of the CarltonSantee Corporation, which owned and developed lands extending north and west of Mission Gorge Road and Cuyamaca Street (including Fanita Ranch and the Carlton Oaks Country Club).
• In 1970, the County considered an application from the San Diego Chargers to develop a training center on the property. The application was denied.
For more information regarding park amenities and pavilion rentals, visit MastPark.com.
An adult fitness station adjacent to the playground allows parents to work various muscle groups while keeping an eye on their children. Its location on a walking trail makes the fitness station convenient for circuit trainers as well.

RECREATION
SANTANA’S ENCORE PRODUCTION GOES DISNEY
Are you one of the 10 million people who subscribed on day one of the Disney+ streaming service back in November? Maybe you’re part of the over 18 million who have subscribed since? If you haven’t gotten on the bandwagon yet, find a friend who is and have a viewing party, because Santee makes a cameo on one of their original series. You heard right, Santee’s own Santana High School made episode one of the new series “Encore!” which reunites musical casts of high school productions. In this episode, it was Santana’s 1996 production of Annie that returned for a second run, more than twenty years after its original production date!
After more than twenty years since their opening night, some of the original cast hadn’t seen one another since graduating and entering adulthood. Jarron Bailey, Sarah (Isaac) Esparza, Jennifer (Johnson) Hartt, Jaimie (Johnson) Knudson, Benaiah Koskovich, Debbie (Spirtz) Nichols, Katie (Terrien) Nicholson, Jeremy Nicks, and Annie (Patterson) Shelton are all grown up and most still live in East County. With professions that range from teachers, stay-at-home moms, to warehouse managers and sheriffs, and families most with families of their own, these old friends had quite a bit of catching up to do! The former students’ original director and theater teacher, Patty DiPuma, even returned to take an ensemble role and mentor them through the week.
“1996 was one of the highlights of my life,” says Jamie Knudson in the opening moments of the show. She was Homecoming Queen (with then-boyfriend Jeremy Nicks as Homecoming King), a lead role in an exciting school production and still had the world ahead of her to explore. Today Jaimie is still closely tied to Santee as she teaches kindergarten at Cajon Park and is married with four daughters.
Annie Shelton, who also played the title character in Annie, even pursued a stage life after high school all the way to Broadway in New York City before following a new passion in raising her two sons.
Once all together again, these adults, most who haven’t seen each other since they were kids, begin opening up about what was going on during their high school years that they never shared with each other. From there, the restaging of Annie takes place over the next five days.
DiPuma’s presence with the group was an obvious must. She is celebrated from the first minute of her arrival at the reunion rehearsal to the close of curtain with love and admiration pouring out from the cast so many years later. For anyone who attended Santana during DiPuma’s time on campus, her pride in the theater program has been unparalleled since her departure and her enthusiasm in the show took me right back to acting classes with her. Congratulations to her, the reprised cast and to Santana High School for making their mark in the Wonderful World of Disney!

CREATING QUALITY COMFORT FOR SANTEE
As a female business owner, I understand some people out there — men and women — may feel vulnerable or confused when they need to call for heating and airconditioning service. Each of our team members, from those in the field to those in the office, understands that the customers’ comfort level and trust are our top priorities.
We feel a deep responsibility to serve customers to the best of our ability, offering timely, professional and cost-effective services — we strive to not just to complete a job today, but earn clients for life. We understand this is done by treating new customers like family, being honest with them, and clearly explaining options. We are not salespeople, but advisers who look at each situation on its own merits before recommending the solution we think is best. Understanding the choice to install or provide service on HVAC equipment can be a large decision monetarily. Our staff provides cost effective & energy-efficient, environmentally friendly options. Our end goal is to have the client feel comfortable and confident in their decision.
As a result of our culture, Allegiance was named BizX 2019 “Best Service Based under 10 Employees”, competing against 100s of companies Nationwide.
Also, in 2019 Allegiance earned the trust of the number one distributor in the nation and offered Allegiance Heating & Air our own line of branded equipment. Because this major manufacturer believed in our service, culture, and commitment to our clients, Allegiance is one of two companies in San Diego County who can now proudly offer their own product line with a life-time unit replacement, and 10-year labor warranty. This is all a direct reflection on our companies’ culture and values, giving Allegiance a competitive advantage and unique selling point over our competitors.

Achievements:
Second place at Grossmont League Finals for Cross Country, Third place at CIF for Division 3
Q: What or who motivates you?
I'm driven by passion and focused by ambition. My motivation comes from an inner desire to always give my best and work as hard as I can. “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift”- Steve Prefontaine. This is one of the most influential quotes that has pushed me to pass my limits. But my drive is only matched by my teammates and coach. They have motivated me to work as hard as I could through every rough workout, bad race injury, and so many other obstacles. So I thank them for that.
Q: What are your plans for after graduation this year?
After I graduate from West Hills in the summer I intend to continue my running career and education at Cal State East Bay. I’ve committed there for both track and cross country and intend to major in physics. I’m eager to become a part of their family and continue my education. It is an opportunity I’ll never take for granted and will give as much as I can each and every day.
Q: What is the most rewarding part of being involved in the Santee Celebrates America Relay?
Being part of the Santee Celebrates America Relay was truly an honor. It was humbling to be part of such a historic event in the city's history. I'm glad that I was lucky enough to be part of an event loved by the people of Santee. It will be a memory that will last a lifetime.
Extra Curricular Activity: Extracurricular Activities: Varsity field hockey (all 4 years), varsity track and field (all 4 years) + senior captain, and basketball (JV one year, varsity one year)

Q: What or who motivates you? My mother motivates me the most because she is constantly striving to achieve her next big goal and never lets anyone or anything get in her way. While achieving her own goals, she has helped us keep focus on our own dreams in life and make sure we have the resources we need to succeed in life.
Q: What are your plans for after graduation this year?
After graduation I plan to attend a four-year university to major in biomedical engineering, with my top choices being the U.S. Naval Academy, U of North Carolina, and U of Maryland. I received a four-year scholarship from the U.S. Navy, so after receiving my degree I will be commissioned into the Navy as an officer.
Q: Whatisthemostrewardingpartofbeinginvolvedinthe SanteeCelebratesAmericaRelay? The most rewarding part of being involved in the Santee Celebrates America Relay was being a part of something really exciting for my community. Santee has been my home for many years, so I thought it was such a unique and amazing experience to be able to celebrate the race walking Olympic Trials right in my hometown.
