WELCOME! Santa Fe College’s Fine Arts department invites you to our 2021-2022 season. Santa Fe College’s Fine Arts department invites you to return for our 2021-22 performance season. Our annual season is full of new surprises and known favorites including Jazz Up Spring, Elements of Style and many more performances and exhibits from SF students in music, dance, visual arts and theatre. The grand reopening of the Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall in December 2021 is sure to be a highlight! This fall, the Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall will also host nationally and internationally renowned talent as part of the Master Artist Series including R&B recording star Avery Sunshine. In the spring, famed Cuban dance company Malpaso will present an international debut of a work made for our campus, paying homage to the late Alberto Alonso, who once worked at Santa Fe College as our Master Artist in Residence. Malpaso is hailed by the LA Times as "...a pinch-me moment, one of those times when you catch an artistic dawning...Malpaso’s dancers were exceptional."



WINDS & CLASSICS September 23, 2021, 7:30 p.m., Lyceum Concert Hall Join us for the Santa Fe Winds Orchestra concert. The ensemble will perform classical and contemporary concert compositions under the direction of Dr. David Smith.


YOUNG DANCERS SHOWCASE October 29-30, 2021, 8 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall The Young Dancers Workshop, programs A and B, will showcase the talents of middle and high school dancers from the entire state of Florida. The showcase performances are an end-of-day culmination of activities for this weekendlong immersive workshop. The event is sponsored by Santa Fe College and the University of Florida, with featured works from both the SF and UF dance programs. There will also be a guest artist appearance by dancers from the Rioult Dance Company of New York City, who will be part of the Master Artist in Residence program at SF.


STUDENT PIANO RECITAL November 9, 2021, 7 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Come hear the progress of the SF piano students performing selections of classical and contemporary piano compositions under the direction of Dr. Mitch McKay.


AN EVENING OF JAZZ November 18, 2021, 7:30 p.m., Lyceum Concert Hall Do you like Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane? Then come enjoy the Santa Fe Big Band, Rhythm & Blues Band and Jazz Combo directed by Dr. David Smith.

LIGHTS ON, CURTAIN UP, "WE'RE BACK!" December 3-4, 2021, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall The reopening of the Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall will feature the academic programs housed in the building, with a best of the best concert under the direction of Marion J. Caffey, producer of the famed Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater. SF singers, dancers, actors and musicians will bring their best work to entertain and delight audiences. The evening will culminate with a set by the headliner and well-known singer/recording artist, Avery Sunshine, hailed by The Washington Post as having "her own radiant brand of soul.” Avery Sunshine appears as part of the Master Artist in Residence program at SF.

MICHAEL ROY (BIRDCAP) January 14 - February 25, 2022, 7 p.m., Santa Fe Gallery Opening reception, Friday, January 14, 7 p.m. Michael Roy is a contemporary muralist and illustrator working under the moniker Birdcap. Born in a small town in Mississippi, Roy now lives mostly out of his suitcase, painting murals from city to city with installed works in places as far flung as Tokyo and New York. His work is inspired by an international hodgepodge of religious and mythological themes in combination with a dedicated nostalgia for the Saturday morning cartoons of his childhood.

MALPASO DANCE COMPANY February 3, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall "As the theatre begins to vibrate with accumulated energy, you get the feeling that they could dance just about any genre with jaw-dropping style." Kathleen Smith (NOW Magazine Toronto) A Cuban modern dance sensation, Malpaso Dance Company, will perform a diverse program of many well-known choreographers with a featured piece paying tribute to the late former Santa Fe College Master Artist in Residence, Alberto Alonso.


VALENTINE'S DAY SWING DANCE February 11, 2022, 6:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Lobby Treat your sweetheart to a new Valentine's tradition. Swing classes begin at 6:30 p.m. and then swing dancing with the band goes on into the night with the SF Big Band under the direction of Dr. David Smith.


ELEMENTS OF STYLE March 25-26, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall A Dance Theatre of Santa Fe performance featuring a variety of styles in new works created by the Dance Theatre of Santa Fe co-directors, Sarah Harkness-Sebastian and Melissa Brenner, with more works by adjunct faculty, Herman Ramos and Mohamed DaCosta.


SPRING WINDS March 31, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Lyceum Concert Hall For an enchanting musical evening, join us for the SF Spring Winds concert presenting an evening of traditional concert band classics featuring solo performers and small ensembles all under the direction of Dr. David Smith.



JAZZ UP SPRING! April 14, 2022, Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Join us for a cool spring concert of hot jazz featuring the Santa Fe Jazz Band under the direction of Dr. David Smith. In this upbeat, fun concert, you can expect to hear the sound of great jazz composers through the years.


SING INTO SPRING April 21, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Springtime at the Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall is best celebrated with a true variety choral concert, with different types of music from different eras. Directed by Lynn Sandefur.


PIECES OF THEIR HEARTS June 19-21 and 26-28, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Our special summer musical performance. The show features a variety of compositions from several famous musicals, woven into a revue-style performance, highlighting the gambit of human relationships.



ROOM TO DANCE June 10-11, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall The annual student-choreographed dance performance. Come and see the dancers enthusiastically perform their own favorite styles. Students also contribute to the costuming and promotion of this audience favorite.

◆ September 10-11, 2021 – Santa Fe Gallery: Annual Faculty Exhibit The Annual Faculty Exhibit features the work of the Santa Fe College Visual Arts Faculty. This exciting exhibit spotlights work ranging from painting, drawing, and printmaking, to ceramics, sculpture and installation. ◆◆ September 23, 2021 – Winds and Classics Held at the Lyceum Concert Hall. Join us for the Santa Fe Winds Orchestra concert. Bradbury makes unique and dynamic reduction drawings, mainly using graphite.
