2023

A Milestone Year

In June, we celebrated the Garden’s 10th anniversary on Museum Hill – a true milestone in the history of the Garden. Over the course of the last ten years, our achievements have been nothing short of extraordinary.

In just a decade, the Garden has become one of the top five outdoor activities in Santa Fe.

During this time the Garden has:

• Raised more than $7 million for the design, development and installation of the Orchard Gardens and the Ojos y Manos: Eyes and Hands Gardens

• Developed an exceptional and diverse curated plant collection

• Opened the Piñon Juniper Woodland section of the Garden

• Expanded the pollinator garden adding many new native pollinator plants

In 2023, we welcomed more visitors to the Garden than in any other year since opening in 2013; significantly increased our public programming, initiated new activities centered on conserving biodiversity, and creating events specifically for members. And we started La Luz de las Noches – a new holiday tradition that attracted nearly 3,000 attendees to the Garden in December.

In July, we began the planning process for the Children’s Discovery Garden, and selected Surroundings of Santa Fe and Weddle-Gilmore of Scottsdale, AZ to design this newest addition to the Garden. We also developed an exciting plan to make the Garden’s pathways more accessible to our visitors.

In December we also announced the establishment of the Garden’s new Department of Science and Conservation. Conserving biodiversity is a significant challenge as we face climate change (e.g., extreme weather fluctuations), wildfires, invasion of exotic species, and expanding urbanization and development. Led by Cristina Salvador, this new dept. will position the Garden as an institution well-known for botanical science and conservation by the end of the next decade. This is a truly transformative initiative for the Santa Fe Botanical Garden.

We thank each of you for choosing to invest in the Garden and its mission. Everything that we accomplish is because of the support we receive from you – our members, donors, corporate partners, board members, volunteers and staff – who work so hard on behalf of the Santa Fe Botanical Garden.

We are confident the next ten years will be just as impactful as the first ten!

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you in the Garden!
