Biofilms Biofilms consist of bacteria, algae, fungi and protozoa. The mucus layers can be seen with the naked eye and consist of up to 10,000,000,000 germs/ml.

Once nested in a system, biofilms are difficult to combat because the biopolymers act as a protective coating against most disinfectants.

Contamination in test benches Contaminated test stations can permanently and sometimes irreversibly contaminate entire production batches, particularly if contaminated water is forced into the parts under pressure.

Biofilms and VBNC

In case of extensive biofilm growth, disinfection with chlorine is practically useless, since the biofilms are not effectively removed.

In addition, the bacteria are often in a "VBNC" state.

(Viable But Not Culturable). This skews performance controls and offers a false sense of security.

In contrast, Sanosil can effectively eliminate both biofilms and VBNC germs.

Procedure: Clean system, pickle/decalcify if necessary

Spray on pickling/decalcifying agent

Wash and flush the tank thoroughly with a highpressure cleaner / water

Shock disinfection 1-2 litres of Super 25

10-20 ml Sanosil Super 25 per litre of water = 1-2%

Add the disinfectant directly to the (virtually empty) water tank. Top up with fresh water to mix the disinfectant solution. Allow to circulate through all system parts, including hoses. 8-12 h exposure time.

Continuous treatment

Continuous dosing prevents germ formation and preserves the components for storage and transport:

0.8% / 0.1%

•

Add at least 0.8% Sanosil Super 25 for 14 days

•

After 14 days, reduce to 0.1%

•

Seal components to prevent germs from entering from the outside

8 ml Sanosil Super 25 per litre of water = 0.8%

Alternative: Direct spray disinfection

Alternative method for components that are not connected to test stations: manual spray disinfection of surfaces in contact with water using Sanosil S003. (1, 2). After disinfection, the components are sealed until installation.

•

Lines and hoses can be disinfected using pneumatic spray units (spray mists). (3)
