Begin your walk at the corner of the Jardín and Cuna de Allende to see Marquesa de Mancera - everything you want for your home décor. A few doors down you will find Mia Boutique - with everything you need too lift up your style. From Cuna de Allende, proceed to Aldama - one of the most photographed streets in San Miguel, with good reason. Across Terraplén, visit the stately Hotel Hacienda El Santuario and enjoy fresh fruit juices at their recently opened aguas frescas bar, La Samaritana.

Ready? Face La Parroquia and head to your right. On the corner, you’ll see the town founder’s statue, Fray Juan de San Miguel, across from it is the Allende House Museum. Save that for another time to learn about pre-Hispanic and Colonial Spanish history, La Parroquia will be on your left as you head down Cuna de Allende.

Rinconada de La Aldea walkway is the turn to the right, down a flight of stairs. This is a public walkway that is worth taking a stroll down. The pleasant, shaded, no-traffic alley is decorated by muralists with naive, fun scenes. This picturesque alley is an unexpected gem in town that you should visit. A covered arroyo or creek, it will lead you around a curve and directly to the Arroyo Gallery entrance.

Arroyo Gallery - Rinconada de la Aldea Nº 27. The creation of Suzy Taylor. The way she uses light on her oil paintings to create abstract sensations, framing the images in unexpected ways, and using large close-ups to enhance details - once you admire

her large images of flowers, cacti, and clouds, you will never see them the same way again.

Virgins Saints & Angels - Nº 7, inside Cafe Rama. What began as a small fashion house here in San Miguel has landed on the runways in Paris, major magazines, and on celebrities and fashionistas around the world. The iconic designs have been designed and produced here in San Miguel de Allende for more than 20 years. In 2008, the designer was inaugurated into the Council of Fashion Designers of America for her signature designs. Others have come and gone, but VSA remains, the original one and only. There is an undeniable feeling when you touch a piece from VSA. It's as if you can feel the love that went into each design and the hands that produced it. This shop is worth a visit as it is full of surprising finds direct from the factory.

Western Views & Top of the Town

Get to the top of the town with a slow walk up a two-way cobblestone street, which runs East and West bringing you to Barranca. It’s a great view to the West anytime of day for photo-ops, especially at the fountain at the top of Barranca.

Walking up Hospicio you will find the elegant Casa Sierra Nevada Hotel nestled into revived colonial homes and courtyards.

At Hospicio 37, visit Casa Katalina, featuring the original creations of Katherine Leutzinger. She designs bold yet nuanced pieces. The perfect memory of your visit to San Miguel.

As you near the top of this hill heading up Hospicio street you will pass Bici-burro, ready to guide you on a countryside bicycle adventure. At the top of the hill you’ll turn left onto Barranca and walk two streets over to San Francisco. You’ll find the Museum of Popular Mexican toys to be a delight and for some of San Miguel’s finest furnishings, interior design and locally made objects, step into Magnolia Home & Style on upper San Francisco. You haven’t shopped San Miguel until you’ve been to the celebrated Fábrica La Aurora Art & Design Center housed in this revitalized cotton mill.

Don’t miss these exceptional galleries and artists studios: Galería San Francisco, Punto Actual, Galería Manuk, Carral Espacio among othersand there is a good choice of restaurants and cafes so you can indulge.

Head back down Calzada de La Aurora, to the centro. Visit Hacienda La Aurora, a shopping spot with restaurants, consignment shops and galleries - find treasures at La Bodega Consigment Store - there is something fun for everyone. Casa Michoacana Gallery features award-winning folk art from Michoacán and other regions of México, and La Colección Casa Michoacana has a larger collection to browse, just a few blocks away.

This walk takes you a few streets into Colonia Guadalupe, where you can see vibrant murals. Guadalupe has an "old Mexico" vibe to it: small businesses, family shops and a sense of community. That is what La Tienda de Gil is: reliable and efficient, no-fuss grocery shop with an excellent selection of products for your day-to-day needs.

Visit at La Huipilista Art Space, now celebrating its 5th anniversary exhibiting textile and mixed media works. Walk down to the centro via Hidalgo. If you are in the mood, Essential Massage and Watsu at Quebrada can provide a blissful moment of relaxation. Entering Hidalgo, make sure to stop at El Tinglado Gráfico on the right side; this new and interesting gallery shows contemporary art. Walk back to the Jardín enjoying a nice, quiet stroll. This walk is full of art and treasures!

Ready? We suggest you take a taxi or private transportation from where you are to Fábrica La Aurora Art & Design Center.

You can also get there by walking down Hidalgo from the Jardín (Walk Four) to Calzada de La Aurora, but we think it may be better to save your energy for exploring this huge complex and then the nearby neighborhoods in this Northern section of the city.

Arte Textil: Nelly Lorenzo - 2A 1. This award-winning weaver creates tapestries on-site with a San Miguel loom using natural fibers.

Fine Arts Studio - 2D. This historic studio at the heart of La Aurora is where Terra Mizwa, accomplished artist and long-time San Miguel resident, with a witty eye for human an animal behaviour, creates representational oil paintings, drawings plus ceramic and bronze sculptures.

Carral Espacio - 9A. Her paintings have been exhibited internationally over the past 30 years. Color is a key element to her work, whether representa-

tional or abstract, blending her classical training and Mexican heritage. You can also see award-winning oil paintings, watercolors, and jewelry. A renowned colorist, she invites you to enjoy her Mexico through paintings of flora, fauna, and imagination. Her chairs are a veritable work of art, where daring color combinations and organic patterns make for the kind of object you can only dream about. See her ad on page 3.

Calderoni Studio / Gallery - 10A. These huge, expressive canvases hanging at the expansive studio of the internationally-selling artist Merry Calderoni. She approaches her work as a puzzle, aiming to activate the viewer’s curiosity or imagination. Be captured by the abstraction of her work, her use of color and daring brushtrokes.

Fernando M Díaz Art Studio - 11C. His art can be found in important private and public collections.

Manuk Galería - 18C. Lourdes Rivera is a mexican artist with an impressive painting technique, in an abstract contemporary style tha creates compelling works. Manuk exhibits Rivera's most recent works and those of other guest artists she personally selects: vibrant paintings, mixed media and sculptures share the space in perfect harmony.

Explore the ‘southern’ area of town including San Antonio, Guadiana Park, Ancha de San Antonio & Salida a Celaya.

This walk can be an extension of Walk 6 from the Instituto Allende on Ancha de San Antonio.

The emerging Colonia San Antonio is a quiet, traditional residential district with the red and white church of San Antonio de Padua at its centre. The western and livelier side of the neighbourhood has several independent galleries. This area is full of nice restaurants and cafes serving mainly Mexican food, but also Italian, Thai and vegetarian options.

While in Colonia San Antonio, pay a visit to Onírica: they design and manufacture beautiful furniture: all you need to fully furnish your home, using high quality wood and steel. It is worth seeing them!

Back to Ancha de San Antonio, stop at Soy Du Jour - a delightful shop that carries scented soaps, soy candles and lotions, incense and gifts plus clothes and antiques; try their perfumes. A few steps down, in the corner with Stirling Dickinson, find Hotel Real de Minas, a large traditional mexican hotel that is a great alternative to stay when you are visiting San Miguel: close enough to all the fun and entertainment, and filled with magnificent gardens, pools and open spaces to enjoy. And it is pet friendly! Book a stay and see it for yourself.

There are many restaurants and shops along both sides of Salida a Celaya. You can find food and groceries, bakeries and a plaza anchored by City Market, a high-end supermarket with everything you need for entertaining or pampering yourself. This part of the city is developing fast and it is full of attractions for both visitors and residents.

Ready? Begin this walk in Colonia San Antonio, a quiet residential area full of places to discover. Enter through San Antonio street and enjoy a shaded stroll. You will see many small businesses and restaurants to come back later.
