Rural populations and the urban poor across the globe face a mass exodus of its younger communities owing to the lack of education, health care, employment opportunities among many factors. Despite the strenuous efforts to make knowledge and learning accessible to every last person in this world, knowledge in any form remains inaccessible to a number of communities around the world. Bringing libraries as an educational incubator and social centre to these deprived communities can induce a positive development towards a better tomorrow.

BRIDGING THE DIVIDE GIVING

THE SILOLIQUIES OF RAJENDRA NAGAR
When walking through the streets of the Rajendra nagar slum of Koramangala,one would hear the mopeds stirring the roads, and the men loitering, presumably drinking chai and discussing — politics, cricket, and may be even their wives.
The children would run in endless circles, yelling and taunting each other.The women with their hair perfectly pulled back, marigold flowers hanging from their braids, and jewelry falling from their toes would yell at their children in between their gossips or dailychores.
Their faces wouldn’t show the slightest trace of the oppression or violence they face. But when they speak,their voices will tell you a whole another that is barely heard.

While the doors to education might be open to these people, they still stand a good many paces away from it. The new TINY LIBRARY will bridge this divide and take the people of the Rajendra nagar slum a few steps closer to a brighter and shinier tomorrow. This TINY LIBRARY not only recognises the part that a library plays in learning and sharing of knowledge but also realises and values it as a common ground for the community.
As a centre of learning it will respond to the needs to contain information both digitally and physically and will have the flexibility to adapt to changes in how knowledge is transferred in the future.
This library will also act as a centre for the community, a place where the inhabitants of the Rajendra nagar slum can meet, discuss and develop ideas.
Located no further than a brisk five minute walk is the high income neighbourhood of Koramangala and the presence of a Regional Passport Office nearby is just an ironic symbol of how alienated the youth of the slum are from the city’s development process.

In the context of crippling land crunch in the urban cities of India, the current landscape of housing is rising like a concrete jungle.The idea of home today has become an uninteresting and unsuprising game of placing blocks upon blocks without any thinking about man and his surroundings.The idea behind this social group housing is to create and design a housing complex with a view to resolve issues of monotony, placelessness and isolation.

Children spend a considerable duration of their formative years in a school, and hence the built environment is key in shaping their developmental approach. As a school is rightly called a student’s “second home”, home must be a place of comfort, growth, safety, and empowerment. The idea behind this project is to focus on a design that is based on a child’s perspective and to create a nurturing and holistic learning experience.
