ABOUT SAN JAC
San Jacinto College has served the citizens of East Harris County, Texas, since 1961. After being selected as an Aspen Institute Rising Star Award recipient in 2017 and a Top 10 community college in 2019, San Jacinto College was designated a Finalist with Distinction in 2021, demonstrating the hard work and dedication of the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, administration, and community to ensure students succeed in their chosen fields. San Jac continued its winning tradition in 2023 as an Aspen Top 10 finalist once again. The College is located in one of the nation’s greatest and most diverse cities. Houston is a focal point for art and culture and home to industries ranging from entertainment and petrochemical to space exploration and medicine.

TRANSFERS
Whether a student wants to transfer to San Jac or start here, the College offers a smooth transition.
If students are transferring credits from another school or re-enrolling, faculty and staff will help. If students plan to pursue a higher degree after San Jac, transfer agreements with partnering institutions make it easy. Students can visit with advising, career, and transfer to review transfer plans and learn about upcoming events with university representatives.

ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES
When students need extra help to succeed in their coursework, accessibility services steps in. Staff work with students who face challenges from learning disabilities, communication disorders, and visual or hearing impairment to mobility issues, chronic illness, and ADD/ADHD.

College is more than classes and homework. Getting involved on campus helps students meet peers and become leaders at San Jac and beyond.
Throughout the year, student engagement and support offers free activities for students and employees, including fine arts performances, information events, movies, and cookouts. Students may also join or create groups/clubs focused on their interests or goals and enjoy game rooms to relax between classes.

CAREER AND TRANSFER
Career and transfer helps students and alumni bridge education with employment while promoting lifelong career development. The office fosters partnerships with students, alumni, employers, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community. Services include …

FOSTER CARE
Foster care liaisons work on each campus in both financial aid and advising, career, and transfer offices. These liaisons help foster care alumni transition to college and apply for benefits. Identified at the beginning of each semester, foster care alumni receive an assigned case manager through advising, career, and transfer.
HONORS
The honors program offers students a unique educational experience. Classes feature creative projects, stimulating lectures, and team-leading opportunities. Honors students may present at national conferences, visit with distinguished guest speakers, and travel internationally.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Students around the globe choose to attend San Jac. Coming to a new country can be overwhelming, but international student services staff members help students throughout the process — from adjusting to a new culture to navigating new learning styles.
ORIENTATION AND CAMPUS TOURS
As part of the admissions process, orientation helps first-time-in-college students:

Transfer students with fewer than 12 credit hours must complete online orientation before registering.
STUDENT SUCCESS CENTERS
Located in the libraries at the three main campuses, the Student Success Centers offer free tutoring. Tutors are either volunteer faculty or students who have taken these courses and are familiar with the instructors. All student tutors have received certification through the College Reading and Learning Association and come highly recommended by instructors.
VETERAN SERVICES
Veteran services helps veterans, dependents, and spouses who want to use federal and state educational benefits. Three locations at South, North, and Central Campuses support all five campuses’ credit and continuing education students. Each veteran center provides …

San Jac offers low tuition, merit scholarships, need-based financial aid, installment payment plans, federal work-study jobs, and student loans. To qualify for financial aid, students should obtain an FSA ID and complete the FAFSA at studentaid.gov. San Jac’s FAFSA code is 003609.

SCHOLARSHIPS
After students apply to San Jac, they may visit sjcd.academicworks.com to apply for scholarships. This website contains descriptions and applications for all San Jac scholarships, including departmental and special interest. Students may apply for scholarships they qualify for and search for others they missed. Even if they don’t qualify for financial aid, they may qualify to receive a San Jac scholarship. Although not all scholarships are need-based, they do require students to complete the FAFSA or TASFA.
