HAVE A SLIMMER SUMMER! L

ounging on a sun bed for a fortnight, free-flowing cocktails and a heaving hotel buffet every night… Your holiday can be a fast-track to piling on the pounds. If you want a body like Amy Childs, below right, who showed off her curves in Marbella, and Sarah Harding, who looked fab in Ibiza recently, you need to work at it by staying active while you’re away. Cameron Diaz loves surfing to stay toned and Heidi Klum snorkels – while Jennifer Hudson works in exercise while she’s travelling: ‘I can get in long walks in the airport. It all counts!’

GO LOCAL Research the local cuisine before you go – there are always healthier choices available. Ask for dressings on the side, for less oil to be used and avoid rich, creamy dressings. Choose healthy sides such as salad, ratatouille and seasonal vegetables. Grilled meat kebabs, popular in Greece, are a good choice, and have crudities with dips instead of pitta bread. Paella is a good choice in Spain but avoid battered dishes such as calamari and make the most of the fresh fish available when you’re by the sea.

HEALTHY OPTIONS ‘Keep a balance between smart food choices and treats when you’re on holiday to make sure you stay a beach babe,’ advises Weight Watcher’s dietician Zoe Hellman. ‘Choose grilled options over fried foods and go for fruit ice lollies instead of chocolate-laden options.’ Fill up on vegetables and salads at dinner and snack on fresh fruit throughout the day. Be careful what drinks you order as well. A Long Island Ice Tea packs in 170 calories per glass while a Cosmopolitan has 99.

GET ACTIVE

It’s easy to fit in exercise while on holiday. Go for a stroll along the beach – walking on dry sand burns more calories than wet, flat sand and the effort of walking on an uneven surface helps tone your legs. Swimming a few lengths every day and trying new water sports will keep you fit, or you could pack a skipping rope – just 10 minutes of skipping burns 110 calories and tones hips, thighs and bottoms.
