Sandeep Bakhshi, ICICI Bank is India’s 2nd highest paid banker For ICICI Bank, 2018 was a tough year that eventually led to the then managing director and CEO, Chanda Kochhar, to step down from her position. Chanda Kochhar’s exit paved the way for Sandeep Bakhshi to step in as the head of the bank. He is now making headlines for being one of highest-paid bankers in India. He’s only second to HDFC Bank CEO, Aditya Puri, who is at the top spot with an annual salary of ₹18.92 crore.

Who is Sandeep Bakhshi Sandeep Bakhshi was appointed as the MD and CEO of ICICI Bank in October 2018, and according to a report in The Times of India, his appointment is for a period of five years that will end on October 3, 2023. As per the bank’s official website, Sandeep Bakhshi, an XLRI Jamshedpur alumnus, has been with the company for nearly 32 years, and has worked in various verticals such as ICICI Lombard General Insurance and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance to name a few. Prior to his appointment as the CEO, the seasoned banker was working as the bank’s Wholetime Director and Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Founded in 1994, ICICI Bank is one of India’s leading private sector banks that provides banking and financial services such as retail banking, corporate banking and treasury operations. According to Forbes, the company’s market cap stood at $32.8 billion (₹2.4 lakh crore approximately) as of May, 2020.
