PORTFOLIO I ARCHITECTURE

A C C U R AT E I N S T I T U T E O F MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY School of Architecture & Design Bachelor of Architecture Design Studio Work Architecture fascinates me. With a desire to explore how science and technology can be used to improve the performance of buildings both socially and environmentally, architecture has brought out the dichotomy of my personality, allowing me to engage both creatively and scientifically with the aesthetic and functional aspects of design.I believe that having a visual stimulus in your environment is important.

For example, if I'm walking down the street I want to see an eclectic mix of buildings that I find exciting to look at, rather than rows of uniform houses.

This is my purpose and reason to pursue the field...to create architecture that can change the ways people live and interact and also develop while keeping a sustainable approach towards the planet.

AS PER THE NOIDA DEVELOPMENT MASTER PLAN 2031 THE GIVEN SITE IS ALLOTTED TO COMMERCIAL USES HOWEVER TO MAXIMIZE THE POTENTIAL OF THE SITE IT WAS DECIDED TO BUILD NOT JUST COMMERCIAL BUT ALSO RESIDENTIAL,OFFICE AND HOTEL SPACES IN THE GIVEN PLOT AND ACCOMMODATE ALL OF THESE BLOCKS TOGETHER AS A MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT AND ALSO DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF TWO METRO STATIONS IN VERY CLOSE PROXIMITY THE PROJECT WAS ALSO SEEN AS A TOD PROJECT AND IT WAS DEVELOPED IN A SUCH A MANNER THAT IT EXTENDS ITSELF BEYOND IT'S PHYSICAL BOUNDARIES.

CONTEXT

SITE ANALYSIS

The site opted for the development of the mixed used development is the junction of the sector-51(NMRC operated)and the sector52(DMRC operated)metro.Both the metro stations belong to different metro railbodies and do not share any internal linkage as of now and are connected by a walkway or e-rickshaw facilitywith an approximate walk distance of 350m between them.

Located in sector -51, Noida at the junction of Blue and Aqua metro rail. It is a parcel of land measuring 77,902 sq.m OR 19.25 Acres. The site is located near the city center of Noida which is one of the leading hubs for multinationals and area with a high concentration of permanent and traveling millennials. The metro forms part of the vicinity as well.

LAND USE AND DEVELOPMENT IN NOIDA Land use planning for a town is a process through which attempts are made to make use of land in the best possible way for development of town. Its future size, pattern and direction of growth, form, etc., are determined through the process of land use planning, which provides a definite guideline and roadmap for the future development of the planned area.

While noida is still a developing and constantly expanding city it has a good mix of all the resources that people need for sustainability, thus making it a self sufficient city. By the design we want to carry forward this thought of self reliance by accumulating all basic units required for human sustainence i.e residential, commercial and work spaces all in one plot while also connecting these to rest of the parts of the city and the surrounding cities as well by means of a public transport (metro).

CONCEPT HOUSING

COMMERCIAL

1) The first and foremost thing is to keep in mind the fact that the site is a junction between two functioning metro stations, thus we can't restrict the area into boundaries and have to create a flowing path that provides pedestrian safety and an appealing environment to the passerby.

2) We need to create a building program that has all the essential components of human needs i.e housing, commercial and work spaces in the site and arrange them in such a fashion that the units that require a connection are placed together and the one's that are not linked are placed far from each other thus creating a smooth flowing usage pattern.

MIXED USE

3) Since the site will have various kinds of users (permanent, temporary and passerby's) we need to keep in mind the privacy and nature of interaction between all of these so as to keep security and privacy of all groups intact. This is done by creating visual and physical barriers between various activities and various required spaces but still allowing room for social activities and common areas.

PRIVACY AND SECURITY

4) We aim to promote the usage of public means of transport i.e metro rails thus we aim to connect the site to these metro stations as much as possible.

PROMOTING PUBLIC TRANSPORT

5) The project aims at creating a design that harmoniously blends into its surrounding urban fabric and does not disturb the setup that surrounds it in terms of the overall volume of the entire program(areas, proportions and heights).

MERGING WITH URBAN FABRIC

6) while achieving all the above mentioned points we aim at creating a project that is sustainable and green by design and is energy efficient both in its design and operation thus reducing the overall life cycle cost of the project by designing according the various green codes and standards available both at national and international level.

SUSTAINABILITY

MASSING EVOLUTION The site boundaries are offset to create a solid block. Then a hollow core is set between the massing to create a central open zone. After this the blocks are separated to create different podium decks on which towers of various functions are placed to create the resulting massing. This massing provides us with solid ground level faces and also tall towers that are legible from a farther distance and also adds up to the areas skyline.

It is observed that placing the towers in the given manner creates shade on the site throughout the day. Thus keeping open spaces cool. Also, the towers being so tall cast their shadows beyond the site boundaries. The housing tower is the tallest and is the only tower that does not need central air conditioning thus its southern and western facades will have the least openings to minimize heat gain and to admit maximum daylight in the dwellings. Other than this unit all other units require artificial lighting and ventilation throughout the day and night because of their uses.

THE SITE IS A HIGHLY CONTOURED PLOT WITH DENSE VEGETATION ON IT AND IT'S SURROUNDINGS. THE MAJOR ATTRACTION TO THIS DESIGN CHALLENGE WAS THE PRESENCE OF THE HISTORIC TOMB OF SULTAN GHARI IN IT'S VICINITY. THUS THE HEIGHT OF THE BUILT MASS COULD NOT BE VERY HIGH AS A FACTOR OF RESPECT TO THE RICH AND HISTORIC HERITAGE OF THE TOMB.

ABOUT THE SITE The site falls in Vasant Kunj zone j(south west zone) along the proposed 75m row Mehrauli-Mahipalpur road. the site lies in institutional area and also has school's near by the site, the site is in close proximity to Sultan Ghari tomb which is an ASI protected monument and hence appropriate approvals need to be taken before hand from the authorities. the site lies beyond the prohibited area for construction.

CONCEPT The site is a highly contoured plot with dense vegetation on it and its surroundings. The major attraction to this design challenge was the presence of the historic tomb of sultan ghari in its vicinity. Thus the height of the built mass could not be very high as a factor of respect to the rich and historic heritage of the tomb.

Also, the site had a natural preexisting ecosystem set up in the dense vegetation the site. In order to conserve it, the built mass was only put on the flatter and higher contours on the right side of the site, and the lower and steeper contours that housed a major number of trees were left untouched. Furthermore, the manicured landscape surrounding the built mass was carefully merged with the natural ecosystem creating a perfect harmony between the built environment and the natural environment. By strategically placing a water body on the side we cooled the incoming winds, which provided a fresher and cooler breeze inside the central courtyard.
