The Heart of Davao Region

GEOGRAPHY Compostela Valley is situated in Southeastern Mindanao. It has a total land area of 4,666.93 sq. km. and is bounded by Agusan del Sur on the north, Davao del Norte on the west, Davao Oriental on the east and southeast, and Davao Gulf on the west and southwest.

How to get there Compostela Valley is accessible by air, land, and sea transportation. Davao City, 979 km. from Manila, is the gateway to the province. On arriving at the airport, take a taxi or a bus ride to Davao City Overland Transport Terminal at Ecoland to board a bus to Nabunturan, the capital town, 90 kms away and a two-hour ride. In Nabunturan, the visitor can transfer to any public utility vehicles for another ride to any destination in the province. Single motorcycles and/or habal-habal, locally-known as Skylab, are available in any major point of the province.

Kumbilan Cave has tunnel-like features and wide chambers laden with beautiful formations. The presence of stalactites and stalagmites and other formations in one chamber of the cave responds to educational needs with regards to cave evaluation. Fauna observed as occupants of the cave are snakes and fruit flies.

The cave is home to the “kabyaw” fruit bats.

Mainit Sulfuric Hot spring is a favorite place for locals living nearby. In fact, some of them would just come to bathe and leave. Others would stay longer to enjoy the healing waters of the hot spring. People come and go.

Aside from being a nicer place to relax, everything here is cheap. Entrance fee is surprisingly at Php 5.00 per person.

Kopiat Island lies on the waters of the Municipality of Mabini in the province of Compostela Valley. It is an 87-hectare island that is part of Mabini Protected Landscape and Seascape.

The island is covered with fruit-bearing coconut trees while different variety of Rafflesia is the world's largest,mangroves are scattered on the heaviest, the rarest and the sides. the one of the most stinkiest flowers in the world. It grows to 1 meter wide and weighs about 10 kgs. The plant has no stems, leaves or roots, and does not have chlorophyll. It has only nutrient-absorbing threads to absorb nutrients from the host on which it lives.

The Anibina Bulawanon Festival celebrates the bountiful gold harvest and the founding anniversary of Compostela Province. Compostela Valley is known for its rich gold deposits. The festival is held during the first week of March in the municipality of Nabunturan.

Sal'lupongan festival - Sangguniang Bayan institunalized the town's Sal'lupongan Festival to be celebreted every 2nd Quincena of August ( Municipality of New Bataan )coinciding with the Founder's Day. The highlight of this event is the 'indak-indak sa kadalanan, drumline(high school) D.B.C(elem.), and Pyagsawitan Festival - celthe fireworks display at ebrated every founding annight'. niversary of the Municipality of Maragusan every 25th day of November. It showcases the thanksgiving for the abundant harvest of the people of the municipality. Highlights the "Indak-indak sa Kadalanan", a street dancing competition.
