VOLUNTEER DIRECTORY SPONSOR
Dear Neighbor,
Pfeifer Realty Group is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Charitable Foundation of the Island’s (CFI) 2025 Volunteer Expo. Your participation will no doubt result in great relationships formed between residents, visitors and all organizations in attendance.
We’re often asked by new Sanibel & Captiva Island residents “How can I get involved in the community? Who should I support? Where do I go to sign up to help?” Often our response is “if you make eye contact, you’re in”.
Since we moved to Sanibel in 2001, we have served the Islands in many capacities, on boards, and committees, and continue to do so. When our young children wanted to play flag football, but this was not offered, we started the NFL Youth Coed Flag Football League. So, if you are passionate about something that’s not represented at this year’s Volunteer Expo, start it yourself.
Now, it’s time to engage our new residents as well as those who haven’t had the chance to get involved before. With many residents still displaced or not yet back full-time, it’s up to those of us here to step up and deepen our engagement. We are counting on you to help us get our community back together as quickly as possible.
Yours in Service,
Eric and Mary Ellen Pfeifer Pfeifer Realty Group

Francis Bailey and friends create a philanthropic organization for Sanibel and Captiva coined the Francis Bailey Society.
The Francis Bailey Society morphs into the Good Neighbor Fund under the aegis of the Southwest Florida Community Foundation; grant distribution focuses on individuals and island nonprofits.
Al Hanser becomes the second board chair, and a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is established as The Charitable Foundation of the Islands; a fund for building grants for island nonprofits and DAFS are established.
The Sanctuary Golf Classic tournament, a fundraiser started in 2003, directs tournament funds through CFI from 2012-2018 amounting to annual proceeds of over $100,000 per year to become grants for island nonprofits from the Sanctuary Club.
Chip Roach becomes board chair while the board grows to 13 members and initiates a listening project with grant chair Ginny Stringer to identify community needs; Al Hanser becomes Chair Emeritus.
Ralph Clark and committee begin planning for CFI’s comprehensive leadership program to provide betterinformed residents to become future leaders and board members for island nonprofits; a CFI-hosted symposium and survey helps focus on collaborative opportunities.
Ginny Stringer is named co-chair to serve alongside Chip Roach.
Dolly Farrell is hired as CFI’s first Executive Director; Ginny Stringer completes her service and Chip Roach continues as Chair with Vice-Chair Melissa Congress.
CFI is in the center of nonprofit collaboration efforts after Hurricane Ian with more than $1.5 million in grants distributed; 2022 Sanibel-Captiva Leadership Program alumni host the Get Inspired! Volunteer Expo.
CFI welcomes new Executive Committee leadership including 2025 Chair Elect Lisa Riordan and launches several initiatives, including a small business loan program, a small business grants initiative after Hurricane Helene and Milton as well as a business climate survey in partnership with Florida Gulf Coast University and other partners.
We are so grateful for the Islanders who have served on the boards of the Community Foundation of Sanibel-Captiva, the Good Neighbor Foundation of Sanibel-Captiva and the Charitable Foundation of the Islands. Our mission is to reach out and help our community with more than 100 women each pledging to contribute $100 three times a year to our local community. Organizations being considered for distribution of these funds must be on Sanibel or Captiva, a nonprofit 501(c)3 with a mission to build community bridges rather than sow division. The goal is to keep it local and have an impact that WE can SEE in our communities.

Mission Statement sancaprotary sanibelrotary
As Rotarians, we provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. Rotary is a global network of more than 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club achieves this with engaging meetings, events and service opportunities, together with our support of non-profit organizations, our members and our community. Our motto is “Service Above Self”, and we are a non-political and non-religious organization.
Optional service opportunities available at least monthly, ranging from local clean-up projects, to assisting our grant recipients in Fort Myers with various physical and non-physical projects, to international service projects with our wheelchair distributions. We welcome guests to our weekly Friday morning meetings to learn more about these and other Rotary projects, plus our social gatherings for fellowship and networking!

About Charitable Foundation of the Islands: (MyCFI.org)
The mission of the Charitable Foundation of the Islands (CFI) is to inspire philanthropy, leadership, and collaboration for the vitality of the Island community. CFI has served the Sanibel and Captiva communities since the 1990s through the Francis Bailey Society. In 2000, Francis Bailey and friends formally established the Good Neighbor Fund at the Southwest Florida Community Foundation to support Sanibel and Captiva neighbors in need. Over the years, this fund evolved into the Charitable Foundation of the Islands (CFI), which, under the leadership of Al Hanser, became an independent public grantmaking charity in 2011.
