Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what people will submit to and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them and these will continue till they have resisted either with words or blows or words or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they suppress. —Fredrick Douglass (1849)

Mass shootings, widespread death, White hatred permeate America ByRhodesia Muhammad and Bryan 3X Crawford,Contributing Writers @TheFinalCall

Mourners gather at a vigil following a nearby mass shooting Aug. 4, in Dayton, Ohio. Multiple people in Ohio have been killed in the second mass shooting in the U.S. in less than 24 hours, and the suspected shooter is also deceased, police said. Photo: AP/Wide World Photos “Ya basta!” Estela Reyes-Lopez pleaded, which means “enough” in English. “Twenty lives were taken from us because of some young man filled with so much hate, so much ignorance, so much hostility toward people he doesn’t even know,” said Ms. Lopez, the media and public information officer for Centro De Salud Familiar La Fe, the center for faith and family health, a non-profit social justice organization based in El Paso. It was a hail of bullets that sent families who were back to school shopping, screaming and running for their lives, when a gunman opened fire at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, around 10 a.m. Aug. 3, killing at least 22 people and wounding more than two dozen. According to authorities, Patrick Crusius, the 21-year-old White male identified as the shooter, drove nearly 10 hours from his hometown of Allen, Texas, about 30 miles north of Dallas, to carry out an act of domestic terrorism and a hate crime against the Hispanic community. Mr. Crusius surrendered to police shortly

after his reign of terror, leaving many baffled as to why he didn’t take his own life like many mass shooting suspects. A manifesto apparently posted on social media by Mr. Crusius outlined his intentions and his racist and anti-immigration views, said authorities. Perhaps he surrendered that he wanted to be heard. Just 12 hours later, another gunman opened fire in a crowded bar in Dayton, Ohio, early Sunday morning, on Aug. 4. Connor Betts, 24, killed nine people, including his own 22-year-old sister, in less than a minute, authorities reported. Thirty-one other people were reported injured. The suspect was eventually shot and killed by police. Authorities are saying the two shootings are not linked. During an Aug. 5 press conference, President Trump said the nation must condemn racism, bigotry, and White supremacy. “These sinister ideologies must be defeated,” he added. “Hate has no place in America. Hatred warps the mind, ravages the heart and devours the soul.” Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), the

chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said the shootings were clearly, at least in part, a result of Mr. Trump’s divisive, racist rhetoric and condemned the president’s proposed legislative fix for strong background checks for gun users and tougher immigration laws. Many questioned why Mr. Trump connected the two issues, especially since the shooting suspects are U.S. citizens. Many social media users’ disdain for the U.S. government, including the president for hesitancy and refusal to call these mass shootings what they really are hate crimes and domestic terror. Student Minister Abel Muhammad, Latino representative of the Nation of Islam, said, “President Trump’s rhetoric has emboldened and lit fire to many extremist groups. There is a hesitancy and a slowness in labeling this in what seems to be apparent to every one of us. So many of our Black and Brown brothers and sisters are being killed for far less. Yet, somehow these extremists who take the life of our people

somehow always makes it safely to be arrested without incidence. But our people unarmed can’t seem to make it out of a traffic stop.” “It’s absolutely a sign of the times as the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan has been warning the American people for years now, that the injustices within the country create an imbalance and if not addressed the results of ignoring and not trying to create a remedy would be acted out in acts of violence. We see that coming into existence more and more as the times are getting darker,” Student Minister Muhammad said. “After a tragedy like this, there is a time to be sad and there’s a time to mourn. But this situation that we are living right now in our community, this has been building for a long time,” said Ms. ReyesLopez, who shops at that same El Paso Walmart with her family. “These clouds have been circling. This thunder has been building and this lightening have struck. And we’re very angry about it. Many of the people I’ve (continued on page 3)

Victorville, CA-Wednesday evening at 5 pm, just three days short of the thirty day marker of the end of his life, the Community Action Committee, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, pastors, family, and community

activists gathered at Adelanto City Hall park to share their concerns and strategize for ways of ending the flow of bullets into the bodies of unarmed citizens of color by law enforcement. The first speaker was his Pastor,

Reverend Israel Riley, Christ the Solid Rock church in Apple Valley, Reverend Riley also served as master of ceremonies, and he delivered the eulogy for Allen at Second Baptist church in Santa Ana on July 26th. Clifton Harris, is a retired Sheriff Deputy who worked with San Bernardino and Riverside County Sheriff departments. He was one of the first African American Americans to serve in that capacity, Harris stated that laws already in place for actions involving interactions between law enforcement and individuals were not used, there is no record of tasering, as a matter of fact; witnesses state that when Allen was commanded to come out of the laundry room where he had gone after the deputies had been called during an altercation with his partner. He came out with hands in air, walking backwards. However according to his sister Jessica Powell, she watched the

deputies collect at least twenty one (21) shell casings after the execution. It was during this phase that when children ran towards the deputies they were threatened to be shot, this included Powell’s fifteen year old son, who was very close to his uncle. Former NBA star, Dennis Rodman, came to the gathering and spoke, his girlfriend had been struck by deputies from the Victorville station in the past. Another surprise speaker to most was the Mayor of Adelanto, Gabriel Reyes, who is married to Allen’s cousin, he stated that when something like this happens your whole world changes, he acknowledged that he had known Allen for a long time. Mayor ProTem, Stevevonna Evans also addressed the gathering, she stated that this behavior is out of control, and changes must be (continued on page2)

Alleged Death Threats Made Over Allegations of Payoffs at West Valley Water District Gail Fry Contributor According to documents obtained by San Bernardino American News, on July 29, West Valley Water District Public Affairs Manager Naseem Farooqi issued a press release announcing an upcoming audit by the State Controller’s Office and then went directly to the San Bernardino Superior Court to file a temporary restraining order alleging director Greg Young had threatened to kill him. In the press release issued by West Valley Water District (WVWD) Public Affairs Manager Naseem Farooqi (Farooqi) quoted WVWD President Dr. Michael Taylor (Taylor) welcoming the State Controller’s Office audit while pointing the finger at WVWD Director Dr. Clifford O. Young, Sr. (Young, Sr.) It appears accusations of allegations of misappropriation of funds and unethical hiring practices directed toward Young Sr. have resulted in the State Controller’s Office arriving at WVWD the week of July 29, to conduct an audit of the water district. Those following the unrest occurring at the WVWD as exhibited by over the top turnover of its management personnel over the past five years and a whistleblower lawsuit filed in February 2019 by Plaintiffs WVWD Director Dr. Clifford Young, Chief Financial Officer Naisha Davis and Assistant Board Secretary Patricia Romero against Defendants WVWD General Counsel Robert Tafoya, also city attorney for the City of Baldwin Park, Tafoya’s law firm Tafoya and Garcia, WVWD Special Counsel Clifton Albright and his law firm, Albright Yee and Schmit, WVWD Special Counsel Martin Kaufman and his law firm Kaufman Law Firm and WVWD consultant Robert Katherman. Also named in the whistleblower complaint as coconspirators are WVWD President Dr. Michael Taylor, former police chief for the City of Baldwin Park, Vice President Kyle Crowther, General Manager Clarence C. Mansell, Jr., former Assistant General Manager Ricardo Pacheco, current Baldwin Park City Councilman, and Human Resources and Risk Manager Deborah Martinez. The whistleblower lawsuit unsealed in June 2019, alleges corruption including illegal hiring practices involving Pacheco and Mansell, violations of the Brown Act, misappropriation of public funds, numerous contracts under $25,000 not approved by the board to favored contractors from Baldwin Park and corrupt practices and payoffs from Tafoya, law firm Tafoya and

Garcia, Albright, law firm Albright Yee and Schmit, Kaufman, Kaufman Law Firm and WVWD consultant Robert Katherman. The whistleblower complaint alleges Tafoya, law firm Tafoya and Garcia, Albright, law firm Albright Yee and Schmit, Kaufman, Kaufman Law Firm have been holding fundraisers and directing substantial campaign contributions to Taylor and Crowther while paying for their travel, hotel and meal expenses to such places as Las Vegas, Mexico, Glendale Arizona for an Arizona Cardinal’s NFL game, Miami, Florida twice for Miami Dolphin games, entertainment including numerous golf outings, and Rams football games. WVWD consultant Robert Katherman (Katherman) has been accused of invoicing for consulting services without a contract or board approval while having his conferences, meals and travel arrangements paid by the district. In exchange Katherman paid for entertainment, expensive wines, gifts, meals and made campaign contributions to Taylor. The whistleblower complaint was filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court as case number 19STCV05677 where a hearing has been scheduled for August 13, at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse to hear the Defendants’ special motion to strike the complaint alleging the lawsuit was a strategic lawsuit against public participation commonly known as a SLAPP or in other words a lawsuit brought to silence a whistleblower. In the meantime, Farooqi alleged in court documents that WVWD Director Greg Young threatened to kill him at a July 11, meeting in response to WVWD’s July 29, press release where WVWD President Michael Taylor welcomed the audit by the State Controller’s Office while alleging credible misconduct by WVWD Director Young, Sr. describing Young, Sr’s leadership as a failure of responsibility and ethics and not fiscally prudent while promising to hold Young, Sr. to account. As a result, Farooqi is seeking a restraining order be issued by the San Bernardino Superior Court in case number CIVDS1922450 against Greg Young claiming Greg Young had “read the press release and he was going to kill me.” Farooqi declared he was so concerned about the threats that he feared for his life as well as the lives of his family members missing time from work and taking (continued on page 8)
