Trust is a fundamental component of our social relationships. It is always a prerequisite for smooth and efficient interactions. But, it is highly fragile and can be easily broken at any time. When some mistake happens at some point of our lives, it may affect others and hurt them. A close relationship with someone for many years may crack all of a sudden. A spark is enough to ignite an unquenchable fire. This is not necessarily arise but it may happen at any time. It may be through a word or a deed. When it happens, the key to strengthen the relationship is to accept our error. Confessing or apologizing is often the first and one of the most widely used techniques to repair a damaged trust. ‘An apology given just to appease one’s conscience is self-serving and better left unspoken!’

I remember a quote in this instant which states that ‘the first to apologize is the bravest, the first to forgive is the strongest, and the first to forget is the happiest’. So we have two more words forgive and forget in addition to apologize. Forgiveness is the key to smooth the emotional reunion between two people who have distanced a bit as a result of an unfortunate event. This distance need not be a physical one. It can be emotional, evolved because one person is not in good terms with another one. By the simple act of apologizing both of them can reunite. This will pave the way to realize the reasons of conflict so that it can be avoided in the future. Later play the third one, forget. Well ahead, when we forget the incidence, the relationship, trust and happiness reestablish robustly. What I have mentioned above is a common scenario that we experience many a time in our life span. Who will initiate the steps for confession, is a big question. A hurt in the relationship will put us into an unending pattern of unreasonable behavior. The situation results as we are not honest with ourselves or with the other person. This will continue the cycle of letting them overstep our emotional limits time and time again. Ultimately, we place ourselves in the agonizing position of being the victims.

Let us examine what happens if a person apologizes in a painful situation. This is a usual event that occurs in our work places. More people should apologize, and more people should accept apologies. Saying “I’m sorry” is not just about admitting who is right or who is wrong but about acknowledging the wrong that is committed purposely or inadvertently. The confession we make serves as a strong bond in our relationships. We also empathize with people who are feeling

(>>>from page 2) hurt. We feel emotionally satisfied and will have peace of mind. Whenever our relationship is in trouble we must be prepared to ask for forgiveness. It is better not to be proud and be very humble to be able to take care of a relationship with the necessary affection. Obviously, our response to others is of great importance. We must realize that trust and forgiveness go hand in hand. When we react in a way that engenders a greater amount of honesty and frankness, we will establish a more positive and empowering way of being and interacting with others. This will create a greater sense of harmony in our relationship. Some people accidentally walk on our feet and apologize, while some others walk all over our heart and don’t even realize!

Remember: ‘The ability of a person to atone has always been the most remarkable of human features’.

Session 3 : Be the role model of your ward

Speaker : Smt.Sreekala P, HOD Malayalam , Bhavan’s Munshi Vidyashram , Tripunithura

The programme was supported by Bhavan’s Munshi Vidyash ram, Tripunithura and SEED Trust, Ernakulam. Bhavan’s Munshi Vidyashram , Tripunithura supported us by providing experi enced teachers in STEM and SEED Trust helped us to identify the participants from the Rural Society.

Session 1 : How a mother can Support STEM Learning? Session 1 shared an overview of the modern cutting edge tech nologies and services in the world. The teacher explained the evolution of the technology and emphasized on STEM orienta tion from school levels. For the participants the session was an eye-opener, because most of them are daily wage workers and their kids are studying in Government Schools. Government Schools in Kerala is very good in terms of teaching and learning, but the students are not enriched in the skill set required for innovation and ideation. The speaker also mentioned about online resources available for STEM initaitves.

Session 2 : How are children exposed to cybercrime - A moth ers perspective

IEEE is promoting the students to learn by themselves with the help of workshops and Online Tools. Since the participants were from a rural background, they are not familiar with the threats associated with the online systems. The session gave an overview on that.

Session 3 : Be the role model of your ward

This session focused on the concept of a role model. If the par ent can instill basic skills in exploring the background details of how things work, that is considered the best way of moulding their wards. The session was well accepted

No. of Attendees & List of Attendees : 40 women

Feedback Summary: The programme was well accepted and the participant group requested IEEE Kochi Sub Section to con duct such events for their wards too. IEEE Kochi Sub Section is looking for organizing more events for students from socially and economically backward communities and also trying to organize events for students from the Tribe section.
