Black Tie Cowboy is a 3 block art installation donated to the City of San Angelo by Art in Uncommon Places. The addition of sculptures, murals, vinyl mesh photos in windows, and seating is a welcomed site to our newly developed Chadbourne Streetscape. The theme Black Tie Cowboy represents the history of San Angelo’s tie to famous cowboys and cowgirls in multiple arenas of life. From the rodeo arena to the historical Downtown businesses that continue to make this city A True Western Town in Texas. As the Visual Arts Capitol of Texas, our downtown area needed assistance in reflecting that title. Our installation begins at Chadbourne by the river winding ramp across from Twisted Root Burger Co. and ends at the Corner of Beauregard.

The art path starts at the ramp on Chadbourne just across the bridge. The first sculpture, is at the top of the ramp, a glass and cement piece created by Joe Gorski. Gorski was a handyman for Art in Uncommon Places for many years before his passing in 2023. Next is a woman walking a dog. W3, a workcamp in West Texas, helped create the wire people that are found along this path and beyond as they are way finders for the city. On the hotel windows, we’ve included images of Billie McBride, William “Bill” Ward, and the Fat Stock Show entrance gate.

Downtown Strong San Angelo muscle arms, artist Zo Flores, celebrates our historical downtown in a fun slant on the sheep culture. Across the street, the Vintage Cowgirls welcome visitors on a vinyl print of a photo taken by Jim Bean of an old postcard. A little further down we honor our Texas designations as the True Western Town and Music Friendly City with black and white painted man and woman with mosaic outfits.

Art in Uncommon Places presents

Black Tie Cowboy

Central to the art are the main attraction, the Black Tie Cowboys. Artist Julie Raymond with fabricators Able Rodriguez and Neil Grigg collaborated to design these for the corners of Twohig and Chadbourne. Along the path you will find a black bench and 21 stools, 6 with a cactus and 15 black and white with flowers on top. These stools were all created by community members throughout the years.

The block between of Twohig and Beauregard, we added two murals and two sculptures. One of the murals, The Lens of San Angelo, was digitally created by Joni Abel located on the once Texas Optical building. The next mural, is by Ben Sum placed on the front of The Man Shop, an addition of white horses. Our kissing couple, also created by W3, is located diagonally from the Historic Fuentes restaurant.

Join us for our grand opening. We will be shutting down the three blocks of Chadbourne for San Angelo Gives day May 7, from 5PM-7PM. We will have live entertainment from the Concho Cowboys, Doug Whitaker gun slinging and trick roping, Patrick Bubenik spinning fire, and Thomas our cowboy statue. Local business along Chadbourne will offer some refreshments, and beautiful art available for all to walk around and enjoy.

NEW Summer Play Program at West Texas Rehabilitation Center

Summer is quickly approaching and West Texas Rehabilitation Center is gearing up with a new summer program for both kids and parents! The goal of this program is to provide education to parents regarding their child’s development and play skills, as well as give children the opportunity to socialize/play with peers their age.

Many children who are not in daycare/pre-k miss the opportunity to engage with peers their age which can be extremely beneficial for a child’s development. The Summer Play Program focus is to allow children to have positive peer interaction, improve play skills, and help improve communication.

While children are playing with their peers, parents will listen to professionals from the community presenting on a variety of topics including: Fine motor skills, gross motor skills, play skills, importance of literacy, how to engage/play with your child, developmental milestones and navigating the school system.

The Summer Play Program is offered to children between the ages of 2 and 5. This program is FREE and offered to all families in the communitythey do not have to be a current patient at West Texas Rehabilitation Center to attend.

Our very own speech, physical and occupational therapists will be facilitating the program. So join us and come learn about your child’s development, community resources and communication strategies while your child socializes and plays with their peers.

Program Details: Thursdays, June 13- August 1, 8:00-9:00 am at West Texas Rehab (3001 S. Jackson, San Angelo, TX, 76904). For more information about the Summer Play Program, call 325-223-6330 or email playprogram@wtrc.com

Quality Time With Your Mom

1. Fix some popcorn and have a movie marathon

There's something about a movie and popcorn that just never loses its’ charm. Find movies that you'd both enjoy and just forget about the rest of the world for a couple of hours.

2. Make her lunch

Taking an hour out from your busy schedule to make lunch for your mom will allow her to take some time to herself.

3. Go on an online shopping spree together

Hands down, this will shock your mother in a good way. Be her personal shopper for a day.

4. Raid her wardrobe and try on her old favorites with her

There is nothing like going through a closet and being amazed at the different tastes from years ago. You will both get some laughs and maybe even a new outfit.

5. Give her a pampering session at home

Let's face it, anyone could use a good massage right about now. Take this opportunity to help your mom de-stress and unwind. She’s worth it.

6. Make dinner together, just the two of you

Get together in the kitchen and prepare an elaborate meal - just for yourselves. Light some candles and have a mother, son/daughter date night.

7. Relive the old times with the household favorite games

Every family has a favorite game. Be it Monopoly, Candyland, Gin, Cribbage or Crazy 8’s - if you enjoyed it as a child, chances are you'll have even more fun as grown ups.

8. Pull out the dusty old family albums and take a trip down memory lane

Old really is gold. Now that you're grown up enough to understand your family better, you'll be amazed at how much you'd missed when you'd looked at these photographs earlier!

9. Share anecdotes and harmless little secrets you'd kept from her as a child

The “go-to” for Mother’s Day is... Gifts. This isn’t a bad thing, but let’s make it different this year. Let’s focus on quality time! It is an excellent way to show your Mom how much you care and will make her feel extra special.

While as a child you had to watch your step around the rules that adults set for you, as a grown up, some of the things that you hid from your parents turn out to be quite hilarious. Spill the beans on your silly little secrets! She might surprise you with a few of her own.

10. Download and listen to the music you grew up with

Music is such a good way to pull from old memories. This will bring a smile to her face.

11. Read each other's favorite books

What better way to get a peek into each other's worlds? You will both gain better insights and form deeper bonds. Adding another author to your favorites list is just a bonus!

12. Get creative and make something together

You and your mom make a great team. Why not try your hands at making something new? For most of us, the last time we did that together was while working on our school projects. It's time to use your artistic skills for something way, way cooler!

13. Give your mom a style update and experiment with new looks

Push her out of her comfort zone and encourage her to try on new outfits. Maybe she'll finally crack a new look!

14. Help her out with something she's not all that good at

Everyone has their own set of weaknesses, and your mother was a pillar of strength when you faced a dead end. Help her sort some of her problems out. It could be anything - from figuring out her Facebook privacy settings to baking the perfect cheesecake. You owe it to her!

15. Take a step towards a healthier lifestyle together

Download or buy a healthy cookbook, it might not sound like the most fun thing to do, but these small changes can make a big difference in the long run.

16. Have a dance/singing party

Whether you include the entire family or make it just the two of you, it is bound to be a fun experience.

17. Help her plant a garden

Let her nurturing soul be your guide in the process. After all, when it comes to handling another life, who knows better than her?

18. Host an online party for all her friends

Have her friends do a virtual party for her. Knowing that you got all her friends together will surely warm her heart.

19. Have a picnic

Pack a small meal and head out to the backyard. Make the most of the pleasant weather.

20. Give her a makeover

You can try different looks and let her pick her favorite, then teach her how to do it.

21. Recreate an old photograph

Relive your fond memories by recreating a favorite old photograph.

22. Help her with tasks around the house that haven’t been finished or even started

Maybe she is unable to do some things around the house or needs a helping hand. She will be forever grateful.

23. Go for an impromptu long drive

Let your instincts do the talking as you hit the road and head out for a totally random long drive. Who knows where the roads might lead you?

24. Learn something new together

It's always a good time to pick up a new hobby or a skill, and doing it with the one person who can push your limits makes it better still!

25. Tell her you appreciate her

She has been there your whole life, let her know all the things she has done that made you who you are.

26. Take a bunch of selfies together

Try out every crazy pose in the book, and then make up some of your own.

Trinity Lutheran – A School That

Feels Like Home!!

For the past 73 years, Trinity has been providing a Christ-Centered education to parents who value a Christian education for their children. In 1951, the church opened a school by starting a Kindergarten and adding grades, one year at time, as needed.

This year, Trinity will serve the community by offering Kindergarten through 12th grade. In 1996, the school opened an Early Childhood Center with a class for three and four year old children and this year approximately 200 students will fill 15 classrooms with children ages 12 months through age 4.

Trinity Lutheran School truly values the partnerships and relationships we have built over this time with parents and students and the support given to us by the community. We also value the opportunity to give back to the community through our service projects. From helping out at Meals for the Elderly, to singing at local assisted living facilities, to collecting food items for Dignidad, clothing for the needy, toys for the Rainbow room, and supplies for Operation Shoebox, we love to share the blessings He gives to us with others.

Throughout its growth over the past seven decades, Trinity has always valued the importance of building relationships with students and their families. Small class size and frequent parent-teacher communication and opportunity for parental involvement help build those relationships. Teachers, like parents, have high expectations for their students and encourage them to excel. We want them equipped to handle whatever

challenges confront them in the future. We strive to integrate the faith into all we do – memorizing Bible verses, attending worship, praying throughout the day, and showing genuine concern and support for one another. We look out for each other, like a family.

We believe that each student is blessed with gifts and abilities, and we treasure the opportunity to work with parents to help students discover theirs. All students spend time each day in Bible study and prayer and we worship as a group each Wednesday. Classes for all ages in Art, Music, Physical Education, and Spanish are held at least once each week in grades K-5 and are built into the Middle School and High School curriculum. Students in K-12 also receive daily instruction in Math, Reading, Science, and History. Ample opportunities are offered to K-12 students to excel in these areas through Spelling Bees, Science Fairs, History Fairs, Math contests, Accelerated Reader medals, Fine Arts Fairs, and Music concerts as well as participation in an annual academic and fine arts competition in the Spring for grades 1-8 in the Private School Interscholastic Association.

High school students attend core academic classes until 1:00, with the option of dual credit classes from Angelo State, Howard University and McMurray University, followed by electives and Phys. Ed. in the afternoon. They also have the opportunity to participate in TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) in volleyball, basketball, soccer, golf, track and tennis as well as academic and fine arts meets. High school students also have an opportunity to participate in E-sports, a new and exciting way to help students use their computer gaming skills in competitions.

Preschool students participate in age appropriate activities in the classroom as well as on the playground. Whole group lessons and table time instruction are blended with individual and small group instruction and learning centers. Teachers write daily lesson plans and communicate with parents through daily reports, weekly newsletters, and quarterly progress reports.

We look forward to next year and the new challenges and opportunities it will bring. We look forward to serving our community by partnering with parents in the education of their children. We look forward to engaging with students and helping them to reach their full potential. We look forward to the future, appreciating the blessings of the past and eagerly anticipating the blessings to come next year. To this end, we have reduced our tuition rates for grades K-12 for the 24-25 school year in an effort to reach out and become more accessible to more families who may not have been able to afford tuition in the past. Financial aid is still available as well. Please call us for more information.

Trinity Lutheran School is located at 3516 Lutheran Way. Our phone number is 325-947-1275.

Our website is trinityschoolsa.com and you can visit us at facebook.com/tlssa. The email address for Principal Ron Fritsche is ron@tlcsanangelo.com. Tours are given by appointment.

A Handwritten Thank You Note– Kids can send them or all the parents could put something together and mail it as a big book.

Send Them Dinner– Grab them a gift card for GrubHub, Door Dash or any of the other services in the area.

A “Thank You Parade”– If you are in the environment where the teacher’s house is known and nearby consider doing a parade with cars. The kids can create posters and hang out the windows to wave and say “thank you” to their teacher.

A Video Saying Thank You– If you or the teacher are not comfortable mailing something, a video saying “thank you” would also be fantastic. Or you can leave a thank you note in Google Classroom.

A Note Saying What They Have Learned– Send a note specifically saying what they have learned. Some of the stories I have heard of how kids are in Zoom a teacher might really appreciate this. They may not feel that all their messages are getting through.

Digital Gift Cards– Here is a list of popular places that have easy e-gift cards

1.Local Businesses– Any time you can support a local business make an effort.

2.Starbucks– A quick drive thru at Starbucks is a treat all the time.

3.Target– Your teacher can surely find something there!

4. Amazon - Your teacher can find all kinds of things they want!

5. Visa/Mastercard - That way they can use it for anything!

From Our Heart to Yours

Words are not enough to thank our dear friends and supporters for your continued and generous donations through San Angelo Gives. Because of your generosity, people’s dignity is being rescued every day to have more quality of life in terms of health, living conditions, socially and spiritually.

The funds donated in 2023 enabled us to purchase additional equipment for our ophthalmology clinic in the rural zone of Itu, Brazil known as Apotribu. Over 280 people were treated by our volunteer ophthalmologist, Dr. Roberto Castro. Forty-three of them, including children and adults received full assistance, which included free prescription glasses.

Cura’s main focus from its inception has been to provide medical attention including consultations, exams, and medically-related needs to those who otherwise would not have access.

Our monthly campaigns give those people the possibility to see specialists in a timely manner.

This year, the funds will help us build an extension to our community center/clinic, to allow more health professionals to serve those in need. More space is needed for triage and for physical therapy and other groups. We also need computer upgrades to follow our patients, and to communicate with them about upcoming campaigns.

You have a unique opportunity to touch the lives of many parents and their children who, besides medical assistance, need basic things like toothbrushes, socks, clothing, school supplies, and mattresses, etc.

Your donation means people are treated with Cuidado (Care) Respeito (Respect) and Amor (Love) = CURA

July 21-26, 2024 we will be receiving professionals from the US and Brazil. Your support and donations will defray the cost of those serving as volunteers.

May God continue to bless you as you help us be the hands, the feet, and the heart of Jesus. Please follow us on Facebook cura_brasil and Instagram @cura_brasil to get updates. Let’s fulfill this great mission together!
