STATS! Stat is the basic of every WOW character, including a retribution paladin. As you can see from the screenshot below, stats consist of strength, critical hit rating, hit rating, attack power, stamina, resilience, armor, spell power, expertise, agility and haste

The paladin philosophy A perfect paladin should consider strength as the primary stat, both pvp and pve. This is because strength benefits almost every other stat through the enormous damage output, the increase of buffs (which will be discussed later on) etc. As you can see, my paladin has a strength rating of 2659, which is considered very high. Other stats such as stamina, armor, expertise, critical strike, and hit rating are some secondary stats. Secondary stats are stats that can be considered only to reach the necessary standards for a paladin. These standards are: 1.

30% critical strike rating

2.

Around 80 of hit rating

These two above are the most important secondary stats that should be reached when creating a good paladin.

Gems, glyph and enchants Gems: Meta gem: Relentless earth siege diamond – gives extra critical strike rating _ increase damage produced All other slots – Bold cardinal ruby – strength is all you need for a retri paladin Enchants: •

Head – Arcanum of torrent (wintergrasp vendor)

Shoulders – Greater inscription of the axe

Chest stats – Powerful stats (enchanting profession)

Cloak – Major agility (Enchanting profession)

Hands – Crusher (Enchanting profession)

Legs – Icescale leg armor (Leathering profession)

Boots – Greater assault (Enchanting profession)

Weapon – Berserking (Enchanting profession)

Wrist – Greater assault (Enchanting profession)

Glyphs: For maxing out only the damage, a standard retribution paladin should include these glyphs to maximize the dps (damage per second). Major glyphs: Glyph of judgment Glyph of Consecration Glyph of Seal of vengeance Minor glyphs (these are optional and can be substituted): Glyph of Sense undead (help against undead monsters) Glyph of Lay on hands (Heal health to maximum spell) Glyph of Blessing of might (BOM) or Blessing of Kings (BOK) (Increase the timing for the buffs) Consumables: Food: Dragonfin fillet or fish feast (giving additional strength bonus) Flask: Flask of endless rage (attack power) or Elixir of mighty strength.

Seals, Buffs and rotation Seals: Seal is a type of buff that only paladins have. This seal provides the main source of our dps and should be used at all times. Different types of seals should be used at different situations: Seal of vengeance/corruption: Used for single targets Seal of command: Used for dpsing multiple targets (AOE)

Buffs: Important note: Paladin philosophy is to be flexible about all these seals and buffs. In the game WOW, anything could happen and sometimes certain methods may just not work out. A real successful paladin does not hesitate to try out different methods of buffs, seals and combinations. Creating your own style of paladin is also a main part to being a kickass paladin! Rotation: Rotation is an optimal spell casting sequence to maximize a paladin’s dps in an undisrupted damage output. Rotation differs according to the type of armor a paladin has. Below is some important rotation according a brief armor grouping: Less than two parts of T10 (the highest class armor that can be obtained in WOTLK): 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Judgement Hammer of Wrath (when enemy has health below 20%) Divine Storm Crusader Strike Consecration Exorcism (Art of war proc)

With two to three parts of T10, a special effect can be spawned, which is resetting the cool down of divine storm. This effectively increases the dps of a paladin: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Judgement Divine Storm Hammer of Wrath (when enemy has health below 20%) Crusader Strike Consecration Exorcism (Art of war proc)

With four or five (all) pieces of T10 armor, another special effect can be spawned, which is increasing the judgment attack by 10%. Thus, judgment should be top priority in the rotation as well as maintain the mana pool of the paladin. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Judgement Divine Storm Crusader Strike Hammer of Wrath (when enemy has health below 20%) Consecration Exorcism (Art of war proc)

Talents Talents are the key of how a paladin is shaped into, either retribution support or main dps priority. There are many types of talent building depending on the likes of each spell. However, the combination of talents must be optimal for your dps in specific situations and not just choose whatever you’re like. Personally through my own experience I figured out my personal favorite talent tree. This talent focus mainly on delivering damage output without any interruption by monsters, enemies etc. My talent tree However, for a professional high class raiding paladin, many guilds would request certain support and spells that a paladin has. For example, divine sacrifice would be needed in bosses such as sindragosa and festergut in Icecrown citadel, a raiding dungeon. Hand of protection is also needed during Professor putride. These spells needed to be learnt in the talent tree and selected over other common dps spells in the previous talent tree. Professional guild raids talent tree

Paladin Best in slot (BiS) list: This best In slot list only applies to the Wrath of the Lich King WOW patch and is only my own opinion in which armor is best. There are of course so many different combinations, sets of armors that can be fit together to create unique and damage output, but according to my own playing experience, I find these armor doing the best dps overall. Paladin basic pvp tactics: Of course, World of Warcraft isn’t always about killing monsters and slaying raids. One big part for paladin is to play against other class such as warriors, druids etc. From my personal experience after playing many pvp battlegrounds, arenas as well as looking through guides, I have concluded some important tips for each class when playing a paladin. AGAINST WARRIORS: Whoa! Against a plate wearer, it must be very tough! No, actually warriors are one of the easiest defeatable class when playing paladin. l

Keep the buff as seal of light, so every hit or damage over time (dot) given by the warrior can heal yourself.   l Whenever art of war procs, use flash of light to instant heal yourself. Do not spend it on exorcism for more damage as dealing with warriors you have to outlast him.

l

Remember whenever you feel weak or close to death, pop your divine shield for immune 10seconds. During this time, flash of light or holy light to heal up.

l

Remember to repeat the paladin dps rotation and stay close to the warrior while running in circles, making him turn in order to land his spell.

AGAINST Mage, priest and warlock: These range damagers are the most irritating enemies a paladin can ever meet. This is because of their constant kiting, fearing, teleporting around and very very high damage. Don’t get upset because they just roflpwned you in some duel because Blizzard did make paladin almost impossible to beat a high class mage, priest or warlock. Some important tips for this are: l

Hand of freedom everytime they try to slow you down from approaching him. Try to always stay at melee range and do not let them kite around you.   l Dispell any damage over time spell that is casted on you before it causes much damage. Beware for some specific dots that may cause damage when dispelled. This is a difficult skill to master, especially having an enemy right in front of you.

l

There aren’t much things you can do if they cause you to be feared or silenced as you can’t do anything during that time. If you are low in health, pop the immune shield to block damage and heal youself.   l Just try to maximize your damage output when you can land a hit on them, do not hesitate to use cooldowns such as avenging

wrath to increase damage dealt. These time are crucial and may only last for seconds before they teleport or fear your away.

AGAINST Druids, shamans and hunters With the correct techniques and a cool mind, these class shouldn’t be any much of a problem. They do not have any good fearing and teleporting spells that they can escape from you. All you need to do it to keep circling them and following them in melee range. l

For hunters, they may try to slow you down with traps and pets, and try to kite you. Try using judgment of power to slow them down when they try to run away from you. l Druids and shamans will try to out dps you and win you first hand. Best thing you can do will be to circle theme around and try interrupting their spell casting using hammer of justice.

l

Do not ever try running away from these classes as their chasing ability is very very good. Might as well try to damage as much as you can before you die. At least it makes an easier job for your team mates.

AGAINST Death knight and rogue: These classes are medium difficult to defeat as a paladin. They can be irritating with their dots and damage but also easy to kill since you can dps hard on these enemies: l

Death knights are irritating with their diseases and dots when they melee you. With their pets and disease circling around, it may be hard to return damage. Don’t be afraid and run, instead, heal whenever necessary and pop shield when low health. Just heal, damage, heal, damage.

l

Rogues are easy once you break their combo run after sapping you. Do not hands of freedom or trinket out the sap at first but let them attack you. Once they are onto you and start their combo, trinket out. Now return your damage to them while they can do nothing since their cool downs are still up. Pop avenging wrath to maximize your dps and kill them fast. It shouldn’t be a problem. l Be aware that both frost death knight and rogue dual wield and have a very fast attacking speed. Therefore, their damage would be low, sustainable but with very high burst. Try to predict their burst beforehand and stun them. This would effectively break their combo and lose their high burst, helping you gain an edge against them in the fight.
