Teachers in KSA committed to develop their skills can now join the Post Graduate Certificate in Education International (PGCEi) programme through Stafford. A resource centre of several esteemed British universities, Stafford offers the University of Nottingham programme to professionals in the Middle East. The course is of first rate academic standards, turning trainees into highly effective teachers. This is a part time, distance learning programme that professionally enriches teachers. The programme comprises a face-to-face introductory workshop followed by distance learning and tutor support. The course enables the pursuant to compare teaching approaches and methodologies in different countries and improve teaching practice through critical reflection and action research. The programme consists of four 15-credit modules, each assessed by a 3,000 word assignment or portfolio equivalent. It will involve face-to-face interaction at the start including a small group discussion and presentations. Students are taught through a dedicated virtual learning environment using online course materials and tutorial support. Credits at 50% or above can be used by students towards a full Masters award (180 credits) from the University of Nottingham. The four modules are Contexts, Understanding Learning, Approaches to Teaching and Investigating Student Learning. ‘Contexts’ studies philosophy of education in different national settings. ‘Understanding Learning’ encourages a critical approach to teaching, while helping teachers understand how children learn. ‘Approaches to Teaching’ includes materials on questioning, group work, and other forms of collaborative learning. ‘Investigating Student Learning’ involves a 3,000 word study that students do in their own school. The PGCEi is generally studied over a 12 month period. As for the entry requirements, candidates must be graduates of an approved university. They must hold at least a second class honours degree, or an equivalent qualification.
