CONCEPT

SOLUTIONS NOWADAYS

Inspiration comes and goes in a flash when musicians write a song. Modern bands often lose cool riffs when jamming in rehearsal room. BANDHEAD can record each member's designated clips during band practice. The clips can be playback through the clip player box for discussion after the practice. Clips can also be marked afterward for the need for notation and mixing.

it’s like uh... isn’t it?

From the placement of components such as speakers, motherboard, knob and buttons, display panel...... etc, to the user's experience testing. Numerous prototypes and tweaks to ensure an intuitive way to use BANDHEAD.

After discovering that Arduino was insufficient for the task, Jetson Nano was used as the development basis. The intended functionality was implemented through Python and repeatedly debugged to achieve the task automation.

The interface of clip player box consists of a display on the left, a set of play/pause and previous/next buttons to choose the devices and clips you want to play, a “marked” button to do the notation and mixing afterward and a volume knob.

the “MIC-IN” type of recorder equips with condenser microphone with cardioid pattern, which can ensure the quality of the drum sound when recording.

The back of clip player box offers a charging port for all the device, two 6.3mm TRS ports for “LINE-IN” type of recorder for audio extraction from amplifier of guitar and bass speakers.

MATERIAL & PROCESSING

According to the usage scenarios of BANDHEAD, they need to be carried and moved between the band pactice room, home, and recording studio. They need to have the ability of wear resistance and impact resistance. Therefore, I referenced the material selection and processing of effects pedals, metronomes and other guitar accessories.
