Secret Lab: Light Fantastic at The Historic Dockyard Chatham 10 - 25 Feb Have you ever wondered why red light is used in submarines?

Doc. Yard’s able assistant Bunsen is back with all things Light Fantastic in a fun and interactive 45-minute experience. 2018 marks The Historic Dockyard Chatham’s 400th birthday and Secret Lab: Light Fantastic, will kick off a fun-packed season of events, talks, exhibitions and activities.

Pub Walk: Biddenden’s Red Lion Distance 2 miles. The walk is completely off-road and fairly flat and goes through countryside to the north and west of the large village church. The walk starts and finishes at The Red Lion inn on the A262.

1. From the pub go towards the church follow the path that goes to the right of the church. Cross the churchyard and take the path as it goes between the fences. Cross the patch of grass and trees, and continue on the concrete path ahead.

3. Turn left sharply at the end of the pond and walk along the top end of the next field. Keep to the right as you cross the next two fields.

5. Once you have crossed the field go over a stile on the left and along the right edge of a field for about 50 yards.

Immediately after a small pond go over a stile and diagonally across a small field aiming for the church.

6. After the stile, turn left for a few yards and walk between metal barriers and along the road between the houses. At the end of the road turn left and you will end up back at the churchyard.

2. Follow the meadow’s right edge that of the next three fields.

Go past the large pond and over a stile at the end of the field.

Bear slightly left towards the far end. Go through a gap in the hedge at the far end of the field, over a plank bridge and

Dog grooming in Loose and why I love dogs to go but I make sure I take him out because he needs his walks.

During most walks we pass the same dog walkers and what starts as an initial “hello” soon ends up with us stopping for a natter whilst our dogs play. When I get back home, I feel better. The fresh air, the exercise and seeing other people always makes me feel good.

Any of you remember Lassie, Benji or The Littlest Hobo? Stories of dogs helping humans in trouble or cheering them up.

Probate – where to start tedious process and estate executors must make sure that they follow the official procedure.

Dealing with the loss of a loved one can be difficult enough, and this can be exceptionally challenging for estate executors who find themselves coping with bereavement whilst also making arrangements for the deceased’s estate.

Probate is not simply a case of reading through the Will and handing assets out to their rightful beneficiaries.

For estates worth more than £5,000, unless all assets were held in joint names and are passing to the surviving spouse or civil partner, estate executors may need a grant of representation before banks and financial institutions will allow them to access the deceased’s assets. Some financial institutions will release sums up to £50,000 without probate. It can be a long and

Any property owned by the deceased will need to be valued by an Estate Agent or valuer and all financial assets, such as savings and investments, will need to be given a valuation on the date of death.

Mortgages, credit cards, loans and personal debts, and funeral expenses will also need to be accounted for as these will all need to be settled out of the deceased’s estate before any assets can be passed to the beneficiaries.

Tax from a late spouse or civil partner can be transferred to the deceased, only a Return of Estate Information form will need to be completed.

Being an estate executor is no simple task. Getting access to the assets can be time consuming, especially if the deceased did not keep sufficient records. But this is only the first hurdle and estate executors must go on to divide the assets amongst beneficiaries. Another lengthy task that can be further complicated by complex family situations and potential Will disputes.
