Minton Architects was a leading practice dedicated to creating and altering residential housing for clients with complex health issues, including those involved in legal cases. In addition, we participated in design competitions to challenge ourselves and deliver exceptional results.
Our work on the Sessay Cricket Pavilion Competition is an example of our ideas in designing spaces that go beyond just sport. Collaborating with other architectural assistants in the practice, we created a dynamic space that enhanced the local community and provided unique experiences.
At Minton Architects, we prided ourselves on our ability to create accessible spaces for clients with multiple needs. Our work on Faldingworth House and Selston House are testaments to this. These projects required specific features outlined during legal proceedings, with our Director acting as an expert witness in these cases. Our team’s approach to design went beyond just internal and external modifications. We would also consider the wider context of a home with landscaping, access, and sensory experiences to create positive and playful environments that improved the lives of our clients, their support care, and families.

As a student during my Part II at the University of Nottingham, I was fortunate to work on a variety of individual and group projects that spanned residential and commercial designs, with focuses on sustainability, user experience, and community living.
One of these projects, Project Wellbeing, was a multi-building endeavour on the University campus aimed at creating spaces that promoted users’ connection to nature through biophilic design concepts, such as fractals, light, greenery, and sound. We completed cost analysis, shop drawings, manufacturing schedules, and product selections for this live project, which we hoped would secure funding for completion.
Another exciting project, Opus Locale, focused on biophilic principles and emotionally connecting the community to performing arts principles; music, dance and performance. We re-imagined a modern-day maypole situated at the foot of the London theatre district and created a journey for users to experience these key principles. We also focused on recycling energy through ideas such as water harvesting and capturing wasted kinetic energy for the benefit of the built environment.
My Part II thesis project, Micro-Thinking, was based on the principle of affordable housing and the idea of efficient use of space, in order to develop high-density housing collectives that promote biophilic qualities. This project was designed to provide such solutions without compromising the health and wellbeing of residents, whilst also being adaptable to the individuals uses, priorities, and lifestyles.

David Quigley Architect & Alison Hainey Landscape Architects, London
David Quigley Architects and Alison Hainey Landscape Architects are a London based practice with a focus on delivering exceptional results for high-end residential and commercial clients. Due to the small scale of the practice I have had larger exposure to projects and had more senior responsibilities.
For instance, I collaborated on a feasibility study at Rules Restaurant, London’s oldest restaurant and a repeat client, to explore potential sustainable energy sources. We proposed installing photovoltaic panels on the roof, which would make the building entirely self-sufficient in electricity and ensure the restaurant continues to operate successfully.
I also project managed the design and construction of a stunning house extension in Suffolk, known as Garden Cottage, which I was on site for during the building process.
Another project I was heavily involved in was Eden Grove; a domestic client’s request for a rear extension to brighten up their living space, while accommodating their growing family. I worked on various internal alterations to ensure that the main living areas met these expectations. Similarly, Halley Road involved creating additional modern living spaces for a growing family, including a rear side extension, alterations, and a loft conversion to provide an additional bedroom and bathroom.
The Little Boltons, a £17m+ valued property in a conservation area, was a residential purchase in which the client wanted to create a basement extension and internally redesigned to meet their lifestyle. As a coordinating architect, I brought together a team of specialist contractors to deliver a high quality product. My involvement spanned stages 1-5 of the RIBA plan of work, from the initial pre-planning phase through to the construction.
