ACADEMIC

01 FRAMING OF VIEWS An artist retreat

Does a beauty of view diminish when it becomes mundane?

The project is designed for a pottery artist and writer couple seeking a retreat space that seamlessly blends spatial design and materials with the surrounding nature. Characteristics of the 130 square meter site in Baluganj, Agra like the topography and sun path are acknowledged enabling access to daylight while offering meaningful views of the location, providing opportunities for skylight, encouraging fluid, dynamic social interaction through the volumetric, open layout of the space.

The project makes remarks on Christopher Alexander's reflection on the paradoxical nature of beautiful views (A Patter Language): The more open and constantly visible a view is, the sooner it becomes a mundane backdrop and its beauty fades away. Rather than becoming a common part of daily life, the essence of a view lies in restrained and intentional exposure, ensuring that the view remains captivating over time.

The design intent of the project is reflected in regional materials like lime plaster, granite stone veneer, and reclaimed wood, which provide an authentic and sensory experience connecting the indoor and outdoor environments.

The passageway that connects the two structures of the cottage forms a continuous sightline. The sun at noon creates a line of light through the skylight that runs from the south to the north side of the main living area, highlighting this spatial effect.

The built-in window seat features a view that is divided into a grid-like composition with each section offering a different scenery from various angles, depending on the observers position in the space. Strategic placement of windows and framing of the view at transitional points give inhabitants a momentary glimpse of nature and by doing so, preserve its beauty over time.

02 BALANCE A millwork for yoga

The project is a design development of a yoga cabinet millwork within a tiny mobile home in Etah within a confined space of 1.4 square meter. The design embraces concepts of harmony, simplicity and balance that resonate with the clients values. The yoga cabinet blends minimalism, simplicity and balance in the design to reflect the client's desire for a clutter-free living space that maximises efficiency.

The residence for a business class family of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh with deeply rooted ethics, the design attempts to amalgamate the modern architecture, contemporary interior with rich cultural ethics in site area of 3100 Sq. Mt. and the built area of 1500 Sq. Mt. The project aims to take full advantage of the two fronts which is formed by placing the built-form offcentred while the interior takes advantage of these landscaped spaces with volumes of residence extending across the entire length of the plot. The interior spaces are not only enhanced by these connection but are also greeted with natural light and ventilation absorbed from the landscaped fronts. Additionally, a wooden jharokha/screen in the central living room with customised intricate details was added to the overall ambience of the house. Furthermore, all the rooms in the house follow the same precedence and have some singular or unique elements such as inlayed stone work for flooring, alternate forms of timber - mdf, contemporary wallpapers and more.

04 INSCRIBING INDENTS A neutral tone Vestibule The project is a design development of a residential project in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The interior spaces of the home are neutral in colour, providing the occupants a visual rest from the harsh sunlight. Additionally, the spaces are inscribing images within the indents of diverse materials. These images or art work are printed on glass to encase local flora and fauna with activities of past. I had participated at various stages of the project and prepared drawings for conceptual plans, mood boards and renders. 05 NAMO HOMES A sample flat Lower Level Plan Namo Homes Apartments is a multi-dwelling duplex apartment project in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh with a plot area of 6.8 acres.

Designed by Sthapathya Design and Project Management, the design/conceptual stage for architecture involved a lot of trial and errors which led to designing a sample apartment to act as display unit for potential buyers. I had participated at various stages of the project and prepared drawings for presentation, renders, construction details and more.
