Venue for the UnInformed Ear

01 [Final Year Project works]

Sound is necessary for space, without space we could never hear.

A sound venue in Mar Mikhael: A baggage of sounds is collected by the individual called a soundscape. One enters the project with an uninfotrmed ear, and starts to dissipate into a distinction between the types of sound emerging from the venue. This arranges the soundscape by differentiating the senses: Passing through moments of hearing without seeing and vice versa. One exits the project with a revised set of sound types that are unique to the venue, which makes one aware of the distortions that can affect the ear.

Interior spaces are sound dissipators. The walls of each room, hall, staircase, booth, are slanted and curved according to desired sound qualities: The vinyl store walls are perforated with indented cubicles in order to hear hands shuffling records. The restaurant is sinked with a lowered roof to isolate diners’ conversations from the main hall. The central staircase walls are curved inwards and upwards to reverberate the stepping sounds on all three floors.

On the mountain of Kfarchleimen, the grandfather was a stone-maker. He sculpts stones and builds terraces on the complicated slopes of the Lebanese north. He also has a passion for wine-making. The site is steeped with history, from troglodyte monk hideouts in the rocks, to frescoes in a hidden chapel, bunkers from the civil war, a pilgrimage trail… Aurora, vin de montagne was named by the second generation who now wishes to expand their vine yard, have a proper winery with underground tunnel, tasting terraces, venue and a small cabin for the parents to overlook their vast land.

Chalet 4H

[KN Studio Under Construction]

A wooden box in the Sou Shugi Ban tradition will hide 4 bedrooms in its systemic and operable pine wood louvering. In the earth, through the rocks, all technical areas shall be hidden, including the depth of the pool that overflows in waterfall on the rocks and the soil needed for the three poplars that will relatively shade the facade according to the seasons.

In-between, the absence of architecture, a 4.4m high reception, kitchen and dining will open up radically to the terrace, the pool edge, and the beautiful view of the valley.

To maintain the mystery, no structural mullions are added, and no detached columns to the inside. Solely 4 H columns that will compose with the rhythm of the 5 trees, the vertical louvers above and planking in the formwork of the cast concrete.
