TREE HOUSE SCHOOL CLASSROOM II

A Montessori School for 80 students,located in Kotturpuram in the educational campus area of Guindy.

The school mimics the form of a tree house.

It is elevated off the ground giving the feeling of playing among trees, to provide for a larger play-scape and also a shaded area to play in as a respite to the harsh Chennai sun.

SITE PLAN The play-scape would be of three parts, the green landscaped area, the sandy play area falling below the elevated building footprint which would further be divided into the free-play area and the swing-slide-hop area.

INTERDISCIPLINARY CAMPUS COLONY

Collaborative work An Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts Campus with a focus on the Humanities, Media Communication and the Fine and Applied Arts, Located in the IT-industry dense suburban area of Shollinganalur the site extent reaches upward to include a part of the presently encroached Periyar Eri, in a bid to transform it into a thriving water body.

With Stimulation, Engagement and Reflection being the basic guiding principals and with an aim to achieve translucency[ that certain spaces remain within their own specializations but are non the less still visually accessible to the outside , the concept of having different configurations [Cluster,Colony,Row housing, Buildings around a Public Square] for each school was arrived at, with common spill out spaces between them, all set along the framework of a grid in order to tie the campus down to it’s context.

WEAVER’S VILLAGE THANDAMPALAYAM Thandampalayam is a village 40 Kms from Erode, with it’s primary occupation being weaving and agriculture.

The once thriving weaver’s community of the village has seen a steady decline since the 1980’s devolving from intricate cotton sarees to dusting cloths with increased and rapid industrialization in the area and rising pollution of the nearby Bhavani River.

There has been a steady shift in occupation from Weaving to Agriculture and many now moving away from the village to near-by cities.

The documented house is one where the loom is no longer in use and where the shift to farming has taken place.
